This is a place you must drive through due to the scenery also there are trails and parking areas where you can take a break or go on a hike. The trail we went on was not that hard and we were glad we tried the trail.

Some how I missed the actual needle eye this time around but got in all the tunnels and switchbacks and bison and deer and mule deer and scenic views and such. The air was so fresh and we had to drive slow enough that we enjoyed having our windows down and bringing the outside in. Such a shame about the trees being diseased since it really changes the landscape. Even so it was mostly quite beautiful and the rock formations are so interesting. I really enjoyed the twisty curvy drive and felt a little fear thru the one lane tunnels as we were driving a truck and I though we wouldn't fit. We fit through no trouble at all but it felt close! (even if it wasn't) We stopped a few over looks and enjoyed the rocks and the views. no mountain goats for us to see this time. Would definitely put this on the trip schedule as a must do!

When approaching the Needle's Eye, you think you just drive through, but there is actually a small parking lot between several spires. The area is easily explorable and has some great views, including the Needle's Eye, and the very tight one-car tunnel.

Fun drive, lots of scenery, beautiful country. Loved the 1-car-wide carved out tunnels - don't forget to honk before you head through. Goats taking in the sights, too, standing on the sides of the tall spires.

A beautiful drive, amazing rock formations. Several one-lane tunnels & very narrow, winding two-lane road. Mad me glad my truck is not a dually.
