5th time hear in past 20+ years. It is the most wonderful place, great hosts, best location. It is right next to Custer State Park, easy access to all the great places in the Black Hills. You will love it.

Room Tip: Stayed in cabins 4 & 5. Great for families.

We came into Custer for a wedding at Sylvan Lake, and we are so happy with our choice to stay at this lodge. Only 15 minutes away from the lake, we were able to see all the area attractions and spend less time in the car, and more time in the great outdoors. When my husband left the front office for check in, the first thing he noted was how accommodating and friendly the owner was. The cabin was very clean when we arrived. We appreciated having our own kitchen space with the ability to cook for our family. We will definitely be back should we visit he area in the future.

This was my 5th trip to the Black Hills and by far my most enjoyable. I originally booked a room for 2 nights but I liked the place so much I ended up extending my stay for an additional 4 nights.

I stayed in 3 different units and each one had its own unique design and charm. All super comfortable and cozy. The bed was especially nice to lay in after spending a full day exploring the parks in the area.

The owner Joe is the absolute salt of the earth. Very personable and a pleasure to interact with. I only spent a week there and I left feeling like he was an old friend that I’ve known for years.

The location to Custer State Park is superb and is only minutes away. Why stay in a regular run of the mill chain hotel room when you can truly experience the great outdoors feeling in one of these fantastic lodge rooms?

Do yourself a favor and book your next stay at CPL, you’ll be glad you did. I know I’ll be back

Stayed: May 2018, travelled solo

If coming from the west, Calamity Peak Lodge is a great stay. The owners are so friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean and neat, and the location is so convenient, especially if you are doing more than Mt. Rushmore. If you are doing Custer State Park, be sure to travel Rt. 16a (Iron Mountain Hwy) when going to Mt. Rushmore, Needles Hwy (Rt. 87), Sylvan Lake, and to see a lot of Buffalo, long horn sheep, and wild donkeys, travel Wildlife Loop.
