We stayed here while visiting Mt. Rushmore. Jerry was a wonderful host from the minute we met him. We told him we were going to Mt. Rushmore the following morning. We had a class C motor home which meant we had to drive that rig to Mt Rushmore but Jerry insisted that we leave our rig there and take his pickup truck because "we had to take the Needles Hwy" and we couldn't do that with our rig. I explained that we had our Yorkie with us and he said no problem just leave him in the rig with the A/C on and the rig unlocked and someone would take him for several walks during the day. What a guy!!!!

This place has really nice restrooms and showers. The camp is kept up extremely well. There are also some cabins for those who don't have an RV.

I can't say enough nice things about our stay.

I was traveling with two horses, but I was riding on the bison roundup with Custer State Park, so I needed a safe place to keep my other horse. My extended family decided to travel up to watch the roundup, and they are NOT campers. This place was perfect for all of us! The cabins are small, but brand-new, clean, and thoughtfully appointed with microwaves and small refrigerators. They had flat screen televisions and a huge selection of DVDs to borrow in the office-- a true perk for those of the party who don't sleep well. The camp sites are clean, large, and it's an easy place to pull a horse trailer through. Best of all, the accommodations for my horses were roomy and safe! They consist of several "barns" that are roofed over with metal (no fire hazard), and fenced with livestock panels (no sharp edges). My horses would've been fine in just one, but two came with our campsite at the same charge so my horses each had their own. I really appreciated being able to leave my mare without concern, surrounded by knowledgeable horse people and safe fencing. I had a trailer problem on the road, and the owner loaned us his power tools to get it all fixed up! Both he and his wife were super accommodating and friendly. We rode some of the trails across the road-- the map was impossible to follow, but with an internal compass we had an enjoyable time in lovely country and saw lots of wildlife. The last night we stayed a fellow camper's horse colicked badly-- although it was about ten pm, numerous people got out of bed (including the owner and wife) to assist in any way possible. I realize that the campers will always be changing, but the four days we spent we found ourselves surrounded by friendly, knowledgeable people who were eager to help one another. We were invited on trail rides, enjoyed meeting people from all over, and it was great to see everyone turn out to help a fellow horse owner in need. (The horse recovered, by the way.) I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone traveling with horses, and I hope to stay there again next time I'm rounding up bison!

Be aware for your trip: Bring your own buckets/bucket hangers for the stalls. Horses may be able to touch noses with other horses over the fencing. Hay is available for sale, if you don't bring your own. Don't use Google's directions or GPS the location-- they send you through town, which is impossible with anything longer than a two-horse bumper pull. Call instead, and Jerry will give you clear, easy directions. Watch for deer after dark. The hot water in the cabins runs out after one long shower, so schedule your showers accordingly (We alternated morning and evening, and had no further trouble). You are expected to clean up after your horse daily, and forks and wheelbarrows are provided. The manure pile appeared to be cleaned up daily, and flies were not terrible while we stayed.

Room Tip: Although they're "camping cabins," towels and linens, television, microwave, mugs and...

This was our first time to Custer and was looking online for places other than hotels to stay. Because we are campers Broken Arrow seemed like an appropriate choice. we didn't bring our own camping unit and originally chose the small trailer unit because it had an unbeatable nightly price. We had previously stayed as some not so nice places and upon arriving here w saw there was some really nice looking cabins. I asked the owner, Jerry, if we could upgrade and there was availability. Great choice. It was decorated with a western theme and was very clean and comfortable. Even had a sleep number bed. We got a great price on the upgrade too. there was a nice looking fire circle but we hadn't planned on camping so didn't purchase wood. We were heading up to the store for dinner foods and Jerry asked us if we would pick him up something since he couldn't leave. No problem. When we got back there was a nice pile of firewood at our campsite with paper to start it with. Now that's a camp host! It's things like that that make a stay memorable.I would love to stay here again and would highly reccomend to anyone to check it out if you're staying in the Custer area. it is 4 miles out of downtown and close to all the area attractions. They offer a variety of options; cabins, campsites, and motel units. They are known of course for their horse ranch if that's your thing. Just an all around nice place to stay. Thanks, Jerry. We truly enjoyed ourselves.

Stayed there Sturgis Bike week. Great location. Close to ALL the highlighted "riding" roads.
Host Jerry is a great guy. Friendly and accomodating. Clean, plenty of room, terrific view.
And although he caters to the "horse" crowd, we were more then welcome. He even opened up his "Stalls" to park our bikes during the hail, rain and wind storms. If your going to Sturgiss in "12" for the rally, look it up. As for the Horse riders.....sure appears to be a great spot to ride. He's at the end of the asphalt road and appears to be alot of trails and dirt roads to "pony" up!!
