Owner description: Generations of playgoers have been delighted by this gem of a theater located near Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse in Custer State Park. This professional theatre, affiliated with the University of South Dakota, but managed by the Black Hills Playhouse, Inc has played since 1946 and is one of the oldest, continuously running summer stock programs in the country. Four to five incredible productions play throughout the summer Tuesday through Sunday. Descriptions and ratings of shows available at website. Beautiful picnic grounds, pre-order picnics, and concessions available. Park pass required on car for entry.

We took our kids (2 ten year old boys) to "Lend Me a Tenor" this summer. It was very well staged and the theater is comfortable and well designed, with good seats throughout. I highly recommend an evening at the Playhouse as part of a family camping adventure.
Their prices are quite reasonable for live theater , but they also have family bargain nights weekly with even better prices. Furthermore, we were able to buy a 'pack' of 4 tickets and use them all the same night for a really good deal.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was an excellent production at the playhouse. We also went to see Lend Me a Tenor earlier in the season. The entire staff made the experience enjoyable from the parking attendants to the manager and director. Wonderful summer theater!
