“super hotel, great food, free use of pool at sister hotel 2 mins away”
Reviewed 14 September 2008

super service , owned and run by friendly helpful family,

wonderful village, good walks/rambles, mainly a winter holiday resort, peaceful in summer, with a good number of cafes and a couple of bars.

stayed 1 week,early september 2008.

recently refurbished, everything in room looks new, overlooking local churc.h

outside terraces catch the sun, a good place for a cuppa and cake.

be warned you will be woken by church bells at 6a.m. if you have a room at front, but so what, just roll over and go back to sleep if you need longer in bed, you will be woken again at 8a.m.
at least you will not miss breakfast.

good quality breakfast, ask for free packed lunch while at breakfast.

had no problems with signing for drinks,

we had free use of wanderbus that connects the village to surrounding hamlets and villages through out the day, walk one way and bus back or be really lazy use bus both ways.

sister hotel is 3 mins away *hanneshof*, FREE USE OF HEATED INDOOR POOL, temp 28*c while we were there it was open 7a.m.-7p.m.

good bakery with cafe and outside terrace on main road near ADEG SHOP.

supermarket ADEG, ABOUT 4 MINS AWAY sells everything, also makes sarnies to order, dont drink so cannot comment on beer or wine, but it sold plenty.

bottled water is very cheap at supermarket, if you want still water look for the word ohne on the label .

lots of clearly marked / colour coded footpaths ranging from very easy to a good work out. the sign posts indicate the time to cover the walk, they are pretty accurate even for beginners.

tourist info across road from hotel and 2 banks within 2 mins both with cash machines.

weather can change quickly, take waterproof coat just in case.

  • Liked — lovely village traditonals style hotel, lots of window boxes
  • Disliked — tne church bells ring for ages at 6 a.m.

We booked an Inghams holiday through Last Minute.com.
The Hotel far exceeded expectations particularly in the light of previous reviews.
The staff and service provided was both courteous and friendly throughout. We asked and were given a south facing room (no.203) which was large, bright and clean, and contained possibly the best bathroom we have experienced.
Food was excellent on all counts and served in a bright dining room with a dramatic view of the Bischofsmutz (Bishop's Mitre) mountain.
Plusses included free packed lunches, free access to the indoor pool of the Hanneshof Hotel (towel provided), and free travel on the local Wanderbus which is essential to get you up into the mountains for the start of some fantastic walks( not available at all hotels including the top rated Unterhof ).
Only downside was the very loud ringing of the church bells at 6am deliberately to wake all the village!
Filzmoos is a beautiful village in a dramatic setting with friendly locals some of whom dress in local costume at weekends.
All in all, the village and the hotel are great places to experience true Austrian hospitality and we will certainly return to both.

Excellent hotel! Overlooking the village square - the rooms are beautiful and really large. The food was excellent and the staff were lovely. Could not fault it. The village is an excellent base for walking in the summer and there is plenty to do and see.

We have just returned from the Bischopsmutze which we booked through Last Minute. For the price it was a good deal; rooms were clean and shower room spotless. However, TV channels all in German, radio didn't work, neither did the safe. The views from the room were fine and the balcony a useful sitting out area after a long day's walking, as there isn't a lounge as such. As with one of the other comments, we were also asked to pay for wine we hadn't had - we settled our bill each evening but didn't keep a receipt - my advice is to pay up each night and ask for a receipt. Food for price was OK but wouldn't have been pleased if we'd paid full price; the evening meals were scant - thank heavens for the salad bar! However, we found out, on our last night, that you could pay extra and have the a la carte menu - which is what we would have done if we'd known. Village is small and quiet with a few cafes and restaurants - Cafe Elizabeth ,close to the local supermarket, is good and has fabulous cakes. The Ingham's rep was very knowledgable as was the Tourist Info office across the road from the hotel.

  • Liked — shower room - clean and modern
  • Disliked — lack of lounge/sitting area, not one TV channel in English, all hotel info in German

We stayed at the Bischopmutze Hotel in July 2008. We booked the hotel through LastMinute.com & at the price we paid have nothing to grumble at at all.

The Hotel is nicely placed in the middle of the village. Our room had windows on two sides, a balcony and a nice view of the church and a sitting area, although this was so small it really only made it a large room. Our grown up daughter at a twin room with seating area at no extra cost, but views only of the mountainside six feet away.

Rooms at the front of the hotel have large windows & balcony but look out on an unremarkable village square.

Dinner was very good with plenty of choice & excellent sweets. Breakfast was unremarkable, with little variety although scrabbled eggs were always available. Very friendly staff all round.

Packed lunches came free, but there were three of us to cater for and the kitchen demonstrated a remarkable inability to count.

The Hotel has been recently acquired by the Hannerhof group who own most of the village. Bathrooms have been upgraded to a good standard, but rooms as yet are untouched. The rooms although large are not large enough to become luxurious, and are currently quite drab. Although this wasn’t so noticeable in our room which had plenty of windows and so plenty of light, with good views.

Public areas are limited, and there seems little room to improve these in any way without building over the first floor garden/terrace.

The bar, stubai (?) and even restaurant are very popular with locals (who smoke a LOT). The bar is very popular with locals on a Sunday, who seem to start around 10AM & carry on until they’re legless. One old chap literally falling up the mountain behind the hotel on his way home.

I can’t help feeling that like many pubs in Cornwall which we have more experience of, the management will have to make up their mind who they’re catering for, locals or guest.

At some point this will be a very very nice 3*, but 4* ? I don’t think there’s the scope.

We’d be happy to go again if the price was right.

Warning however, hit be German families 2nd week in July, maybe they were getting a great deal as well.

The hotel has a great location in the centre of the village and is an excellant base for a range of excellant walks/hikes - all of which are well served by numerous mountain huts serving food & drink.

The hotel itself requires a refresh. Whilst the reception, bar and guest stube are very austrian and welcoming, the restaurant and bedrooms (though large and very clean) are some what tired and un-austrian.

The food is standard austrian fare of salad buffet, starter, main and dessert of ok quality and quantity; but not great. The hotel itself has no leisure facilities; although guests do have the use of facilities at its sister hotel.

A cautionary warning, we put drinks at dinner and in the bar to our room (as they appeared to want) but thankfully kept a note of all we had had. On checkout they tried to inflate the bill by over 50 euro's; most notably by drinks we do not drink. Whilst reception duly amended with little fuss on the last morning, as we boarded the coach transfer home the bar tender challenged us again. I would recommend any one staying to either pay for drinks at the bar or ask to sign for them.

We booked the hotel late through lastminute.com and it was ok for what we paid, but we were also fortunate the weather was good so were out most days and used it more as a base.

In poor weather the hotel has little to offer and in my opinion would not be good value at full brochure price.
