Just back from our second visit to this hotel . This is a very friendly hotel who make you feel like a member of the family.
We had two rooms this time rather than a family room ( children now 12 and 14). This was a definite success. Plenty of room in both rooms , our room on third floor had lovely large balcony with views of castle and valley towards Shuttdorf. Stunning sunrise and sunsets.
We spent most afternoons in the garden this year after days out which was very pleasant experience.
Food was very good and very plentiful. The waiters and waitresses were very helpful as always. Rachael was a bit hit with the children.
The hotel was extremely clean and all the staff very helpful and effecient.
The Zell card as always helped make the holiday very economical. There is lots to do in Kaprun and local area , after two visits we still have lots to see and do.
Hope to return again in the future.

Room Tip: We had room 331 for children and 333 for ourselves. Views from 333 were excellent with nice large ba...

We have just returned from 2 fabulous weeks in Kaprun. We were lucky enough to be staying at the Hotel Gastof Mitteregger, which made our holiday. First off, this is a traditional family run hotel, which has been in the same family for well over the last 150 years. Peter and Evelyn are the Proprietors, who are very approachable and hands on. They have an excellent team who are helpful, friendly and efficient. Nothing is too much trouble and we would like to especially mention Christiana on reception who is a real treasure. The bikes, provided by the Hotel are an added bonus and allow you to explore more widely.
The rooms, divided between modern and traditional are spacous and comfortable. All facilities are modern and extremely clean, especially the Spa area, which we found on our last day.
The wonderful food is the best we've had in Austria. It is freshly prepared by a team of 5 in the Kitchen, which is open for all to view. The presentation and taste is second to none. We would highly recommend this Hotel to discerning people. Those who recognize the difference between good friendly service and quality fresh food over self service buffets and impersonal management. We will return.

Just returned from a week at the Mitteregger. We have stayed in Kaprun on several occasions, but first time at this hotel. We thought is was our best Kaprun holiday yet. The hotel is perfectly located. The ski bus to the glacier stops right outside the door and runs every 30 mins. If the bus turns up and is full, the driver will radio for another bus, which turns up within minutes. To get to Zell, you only need to walk 2-3 mins down the road to the bus stop on the main road, where buses to Zell seem to run every 15 mins. The Maiskogel is about 5 mins walk from the hotel and can easily be done in ski boots. This is great as you can easily walk back from the best apre ski bar in Austria (The Lederhosen) which is located at the bottom of the Maiskogel slope.
The room we had was large with a massive balcony that seemed to run halfway round the hotel. The room was light, warm and clean. The beds were really comfortable also. Bathroom was clean with plenty of hot water, although we did only have a shower and no bath.
We did have a noisy party start in the room above us late one night, but one call to reception and silence was restored within about 5 mins.
Food at the hotel is great and plentiful. Typical Austrian fare, which was well cooked, well presented and very tasty. Breakfast was a hot & cold buffet which included bacon and eggs for us true Brits. Evening meal was 5 course and helpings generous, so much so that we often could not get through it all.
We found the staff to be great, They were polite and very helpfull.
We never got round to using the leisure suite, but I understand that they have a sauna, but no swimming pool.
Smoking is allowed in bar area, but the rest of the hotel is non smoking.
I can say with confidence that next time we go back to Kaprun I will try to use this hotel again.
Tip for skiers, if you intend to hire skis, try Trefpunct Eurosport. They are located just past the Barberahof hotel (about 10 mins walk from Mitteregger). In our experience you will find them cheaper than the others. The equipment is first class and the service brilliant. As soon as you walk in you get a free drink and they spend time with clients to ensure the equipment is right.
If Carlsberg did ski hire shops, this would be one of theirs!

Room Tip: We were originally allocated a 'budget room by Crystal (did not know this until we got there) ho...

Just back from a week in Kaprun, Austria. Stayed at the Hotel Gasthof Mitteregger.
The staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The quality of food was generally excellent. Recommend the Cream of Garlic soup.
The recepitionist was very cheery and always had a lovely manner.

My wife and I have recently reurned from a week's stay at the Hotel Mitteregger. The hotel is really nice, full of character, being the oldest hotel in Kaprun. Our room was on the third floor (334), very spacious and included a sofa, small table and to chairs. Plenty of storage space for clothes etc. Bathroom was lovely, with walk-in shower. Room was on corner of building and had a large L-shaped balcony with table and chairs and the views were terrific (see photos)
Enjoyed our meals very much. Typical Austrian breakfast, including scrambled, fried or boiled eggs. Dinner was five courses, starter, soup, salad bar, main course which you chose at breakfast. This usually centred on Austrian dishes which were very enjoyable, followed by sweet.
Staff were all very pleasant and helpful, with a special mention to the two ladies who looked after our room - always spotless.
Kaprun is a lovelly village, with a variety of shops, cafes, bars, etc. Anita's was really nice for a coffee and food during the day, while the Pavillion was the 'in' place on an evening.
The local supermarket was very large, with plenty of choice and you could get freshly made sandwiches (ham & cheese bun) for 1 euro each. Down stairs was a large store selling everything from gifts, toys, clothes, etc.
What really made this holday was the summer card given to you when you arrive at the hotel
( www.zellamsee-kaprun.com) for full details. Local transport was 1 euro per journey, whatever the distance and the buses were always on time (every 30 mins.). All lifts were free (normal prices between 10 & 31 euro) so a great saving was made. Many attractions in the area were either free or at a reduced rate.
Two trips which we strongly recommend are to the high altitude reservoirs and to the top of the Kitzsteinhorn (fantastic).
With the summer card we did things we may not have done without it, which made our stay a great holiday

We have been to the Mitteregger maybe 20 times over the last 15 years. The rooms are clean, spacious, comfortable and some with balconies. The food is almost always exceptional (sometimes better) and almost never boring.
Comfortable rooms some with balconies, central position close to the Maiskogel lifts, easy access to buses, shops etc. with good service in the Hotel, bicycles for use, help with problems and in season, it's a lively hotel.
