“Did the Job!”
Reviewed 21 February 2014

Grand hotel nothing special but did the job for our weeks ski holiday. It was clean with a good hot shower with no shortage of water. Breakfast was very good the usual continental style with bread, ham, cheese etc. We stay in a separate building to the hotel a short walk in the morning to catch the breakfast. It is located just out of the town so the is a short ten minute walk to get the busy parts of the town at night and the ski bus stops just a short walk outside the hotel if your carrying skis. No free WiFi which was disappointing but you can buy it at reception. Would definitely recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again.

Hotel was ideal for a few weeks of snowboarding. We never had any real problems. Its situated away from the main town so this means its very quiet. Dinner was a little bit hit and miss but did enjoy every breakfast there. Would recommend to anyone

My friends and I had a fantastic stay at the Strolz recently.
We were blown away by the facilities at this place, I'll just list them:

Here's what was great
- spacious rooms with lots of storage (rare for european hotels)
- good sized swimming pool (slightly cool but refreshing after a day on the sloper)
- 10 mins walk to train, 3-4 mins (in ski boots) to ski bus stop.
- large boot room with ski storage and heated boot racks
- balconies that open to inter-link with friends
- elevator to all floors (that was small but fast)
- great food at all meals (and really nice house wine & reasonably priced)
- friendly, helpful & accommodating staff
- they give you 2 keys for your room (which is great if you're sharing with a friend who you're not skiing with all day)
- traditional decor, makes you feel like you are in Austria (not a faceless hotel in any country in the world)

Things that could make it even better (but by no means are complaints):
- The wifi is paid for (and doesn't reach to the rooms at the very end of the corridors), I think the world is slowly but surely moving towards free wifi and there is plenty of if at various restaurants on the slopes and in the town centre.
- The front lounge is so very bright, it's cheerful but a bit too much. I think people would be encouraged to spend more time there if it was calmer and more relaxing/inviting. It's just an ambience thing

Over all we had a fantastic experience and would recommend staying here and we will certainly return.

I was overjoyed with the location and the view from my balcony. I stayed in room 212 overlooking the foot of one of the mountains. It is difficult to describe the placement of this wonderful location because you are in between so many mountains, each direction you look from the property has a beautiful view.
My first time in Austria I stayed at another hotel and was not fond of the food at all but Strolz has a fantastic menu and I loved the dinner each night I stayed. I was also really impressed with how friendly the staff was. Maria was our favorite, but most the staff was very nice also.

The ski bus stop is really close, maybe 5-7 minute walk in snowboard boots. But the walk to the gondola for Mayrhofen is easily doable also, about 15 mins. The train to other resorts is also close about 15 to 20 mins. I definitely recommend paying the extra monday to stay in the main building.

The ski/snowboard equipment room is fantastic, complete with boot warmers on the wall.
Only complaint is not having towels by the pool and additional charge for the hydra-jet which was kind of a waste.

This hotel is typical Austrian which is great. Good sized rooms, very warm, loads of hot water and great views. We had a huge balcony and I think all rooms in the main building come with balcony as standard. As a brit there are some things that should be pointed out. The food, based on other reviews was assumed to be excellent but I'd say it was average at best. Some things were plain odd and were as if this is typical tirolyean cuisine it would be ok, but it didn't seem to be as the best local dishes weren't made. Things like 'salad' turned out to be a bowl of lettuce and the desserts were a bit odd. The breakfast was quite limited on days were the hot options didn't appear at all. But there was still enough to choose from I've just had better breakfast buffets. We got dining partners which I wasn't expecting and seemed unnecessary as there was loads of room in the dining room. That said us and 'family symonds' had a great week chatting away so it turned out well but I hadn't realized that was the setup beforehand. So just warning brits travelling in twos! Finally the sauna area is 'no swimming costumes' and while they provide towels for the sauna and steam room there are many natives who are happy to go naked and most of them really shouldn't! So again beware. The pool is ok thou. All in all a nice hotel and great tv channels and reasonable drinks prices so I would recommend it.

A perfect location for walking skiing or to relax. Great facilities and wonderful food. Good with children and ideal for a family holiday. A good swimming pool and sauna plus steam room area. Quiet lounge and study room. Good waiter service throughout the stay. A family run hotel with three generations of history.

We booked the Strolz through a package with Crystal. We had a room in the annexe. This is located about 80 m (three buildings away from the main hotel where all amenities were located). So remember to take some outdoor shoes that can be worn for breakfast and dinner.

The hotel was mixed clientele - some young and some old- some families and some couples. The hotel is traditional Austrian and the staff were all really friendly and helpful. The ski bus stop was about 100 m away and the A1 and A2 buses came aboutevery 15 mins. The walk to the ski lift was about 15 mins - too far really for carrying ski equipment every day - so we rented space at the crystal office (30 euros for two sets for the week) which is right next to the penkenbahn lift so was really convenient.

The hotel meal times were from 7 to 10 for a good and varied buffet breakfast and 6.30 to 8 for evening meal. The choice of main course was required to be made at breakfast. A four course meal every night was great (no choice of starter, soup nor sweet). The food was outstanding - traditional Austrian fare which might not be to everyone's taste - but we had veal, pork, beef, goose, duck in a variety of ways. Always enough to eat - and drinks were bought to the table and an itemised bill provided in the morning.

The room we had was for 3 - a comfortable double bed and a separate room with sofa bed. There were two balconies and had great views of the valley. The only down side was the size of the bathroom which was tiny.

We paid 20 euros for a week of internet access - which once we complained about the reception in the annexe - was usable by one device at a time.

The pool area was lovely and the water was really warm. We did not use the sauna but looked nice and clean.

Overall - if you want to sample some fantastic and traditional local food the stay at the strolz - but if you are a traditional English eater and want Brit food - then stay away as you might struggle with the dinners!
