“VIP Ski”
Reviewed 18 March 2012

Loved Hotel Neuhaus.

We were a group of 7 friends, all well traveled and used to high service levels. It was our first time to ski in Austria, prior to this having only skied in France. We were pleasantly surprised that we were able to find a 4 star hotel package including bfast, dinner, flights and transfers all for £767 with directski.com.

First Impressions of Hotel Neuhaus - Wow, amazing location right in the centre of town on pedestrianised main street.

Rooms - loved our room, with separate living room space with view onto the mountain, room 303. Also we had a very peaceful nights sleep with no noise from the nightclub which is in the basement.

Food - WOW! We ate like kings for the week, 4 course breakfasts, 7 course evening meals! We were in heaven.

Spa - The hotel spa rivals many that I have seen in Britain, it was the perfect antidote to the skiing, it underwent a full refurb in 2010 so the decor is on trend. Spend time in the spa was a stunning way to chill after a touch day on the slopes.

Service - some of the service staff could have been friendlier although I think there were language barriers.

Nightlife - We tore up the dance floor in the Tavern club which is nightclub connected to Hotel Neuhaus. It was handy to jump in the lift at 4am after a night on the tiles. Other lively night spots included Underbar, Bobby, Otsi Bar and Castello.

Toilets - We have never seen so many immaculate toilets in bars, at on-piste restaurants even the toilets at the top of the gondola's were modern and clean. Certainly beats the stinky loo's in the Alps.

Shopping in resort - not so much, better ski wear range in UK.

Saalbach - what a picturesque ski village. We would definitely return.

Room Tip: Room 303 has a great view of the piste. The nightclub might create noise for the rooms on level 1.

If you are looking for a good 4 star hotel with a perfect location in the center of Saalbach, you can't be wrong by choosing Neuhaus. The rooms are not too big but they are well appointed and comfortable. The restaurant is good enough and has an interesting wine selection. All the staff is very kind and helpful. The wellness and swimming pool area is also good. WIFI connection is free of charge. The location in Saalbach main street makes it very close to main ski lifts.

This was my sixth visit to the Neuhaus - all in winter season ; sadly, despite previous good experiences ,this time disappointed.
It is apparent that the hotel management has changed and cost cutting is the current policy. This is reflected in service standards and staff attitude.
The ''hotel manager'' seems interested only in playing his music in the hotel nightclub and invests no time in his hotel guests or visible management. Staff are demotivated, have no time for the friendly engagement that previously characterised the hotel, and delivery is negatively impacted.
The symptoms are perhaps not dramatic but as a 'regular' they are noticeable and it would be unfortunate if the decline continues.
Headcount reductions are particularly affecting the restaurant and bar; less waitstaff at breakfast results in dirty plates not being cleared and the drinks service being replaced with self service for tea and coffee. Just one bartender struggles to serve up to 50 enthusiastic drinkers in the lounge bar; it surely loses revenues and encourages hotel guests to go elsewhere. And that one girl serves a seven hour shift , under pressure and without a break , is indicative of uncaring leadership.
The Neuhaus charges premium prices. Unless they are careful value for money will become an issue and alternate hotels will steal their clientele. Though I am not sure the indifferent GM will either notice or care.

Room Tip: There are lots of different room sizes and shapes ; all bedrooms are attractively furnished and well...

Our stay was amazing.

Food- Exquisite food! We didn't go Ala Carte but it still was great. Amazing plating and great flavor combinations. My daughter loved her meal, too.
Cleanliness- Very clean. There wasn't a single spot on the bed.
Service- Everybody was pretty friendly but we were once given incorrect directions.
Other- You have got to visit the Relax heaven swing room. Very impressive and great place to read. Additionally the pools were very clean.

I thought it was a great hotel!

Great hotel, nice rooms, excellent food, fantastic wellness. The only negative comment I would have is the disco in the basement of the hotel building. Disco opened everyday till 3:00 a.m., you can hardly sleep before it closes.

Stayed a week at the Neuhaus in mid January on a skiing holiday to Saalbach. It's a lovely hotel with very friendly staff and good service. The rooms are really nice and the food was very good. Saalbach is a great place to ski, with quite a large ski area and the Neuhaus is less than 200 metres from all three main lifts, so perfect position. Saalbach itself is very lively, with a late night bar scene, but the Neuhaus offers a tranquil retreat. My only complaint would be that the rooms that overlook the main road are very noisy (and people do stay up very late and make a lot of noise outside). I was in one of these rooms initially but moved to a room at the back of the hotel after three nights and this made a tremendous difference.
