“best time of my life!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 January 2011

i would like to appologise on behalf of my school for that last review as it was my school and another in the school party. i had an amazing time and im sorry, but you make this hotel out to be an absolute shambles! its perfect! the staff are so welcoming, everyone talks to eachother, okay the food wasnt that good but it is only 3 stars. As for us domonating the bar, i think thats a little out or proportion, we were onkly in there after meal time for a wally of the day ceremony and upcoming news. i have had the time of my life and didnt want to leave yesterday. the views from the balconoy were breathtaking.

The servises were amazing and i deffo recomend coming here. Thank you to steven and pippa! if you didnt like the noise, we were there for a week, you should have spoke to one of our teachers, but to be fair, we are 12,13 and 14, what do you expect? we had a brilliant time and the facilities were ce! karoke night was a deffo highlight!

thank you Hotel Riegler, you shall deffo see me again next year!

We returned from Saalbach today, staying at Hotel Riegler. I'm trying to be fair and positive about the place as I don't like to complain, but i feel i owe it to others that may be considering the Riegler to have the full picture.
There was a school party there at the same time and they dominated the hotel for the week. Their rowdiness late into the evenings really tainted our stay. The staff were'nt really interested and to be honest, their own parties were often just as sleep disturbing. A big part of the issue was that the stair well and hallways are hard floored and everything echoes around the block. So, when the staff start early with constant banging doors, or the kids are screaming, it is guaranteed to wake you early or keep you up late! Be warned that apparently school parties are common here, also turning the 'welcoming' bar and restaurant into a youth club.

Decor is really dated and rooms are poorly maintained. The handle fell off my door; half the plug socket fell out when I unplugged a charger; one of our party had a faulty shower; the advertised sauna was out of action 'long term'; the loose tail board on my bed banged every time I turned over; the vaccum didn't enter my room once all week. I could go on.
So, if you really don't care about any of this and want a budget place in a great resort, good luck to you. Just check with your agent if there is a school party booked at the same time as you, as this will really impact on your stay there!

I booked this holiday back in august 2010 through Rocketski, who operate this Hotel, in the resort of Saalabach, Austria. The Hotel came to my attention whilst eading The Mail on Sundays' deals of the week. With a £40 discount for online booking, British Airways return flights from Heathrow to Munich, Coach tranfers to and from the resort and the services of a representative.
The hotel provides a buffet style breakfast and three course evening meal as part of the package. All this with no single supplement came to £405.Not bad for aChristmas holiday of 7 nights.
I was due to depart from Terminal 5 on Monday 20th December at 09.40 and had booked a room at the Travelodge, terminal 5, so as to be ready for an early check in.
The Travelodge was to prove a worthy investment, at only £19.50 for a double room. Again thishotel provide price was only available via early internet booking and an extra six pounds included an "as much as you can eat "breakfast.
Sadly the fiasco that was terminal 5 last December meant that my outbound flight was cancelled however Rocketski swung into action and had telephoned me by 09.00am, to suggest an alternative plan. The majority of passengers had to make their own way to Manchester for a flight later that day, however about 25 of us were rebooked to fly from Gatwick the next day aboard a Thompsons flight to Innsbruck, only a one hou r20 minute trip, to be met by Rocketski and the 2 hour transfer to the resort, finally arriving at our Hotel around 7.00pm Tuesday evening, in time for dinner and the fitting of skis and boots.
Albeit a long and tiresome trip and a days holiday missed but Rocketski did well to get us there at all given the chaos at home.
Upon arrival at the Hotel, any guests will be struck by the somewhat daunting approach, which reminded me of the northface of the Eiger! Still the staff were anxious to assist the weaker amonst us with luggage and once intstalled in our rooms, there was time for a welcome aperatif before dinner. The staff had to work hard, as our late arrival meant that the Hotel had to lay on a second dinner service. As a diabetic, my applestrudel was replaced by an enormous Cheeseboard, quickly put together by our hostess and Hotel Manager Nikola.

At Breakfast Skis and boots fitted, Skipasses were distributed and ,a weeks skipass, skis and boot hire mount up to about £280, the ski pass for six days being £183,five days for we stragglers, this is cheaper than buying a pass in the resort but obviously is a significant sum on the top of this excellent value break.

The skiing in Saalbach and neighbouring Hintergleem is serviced by an extensive network of Lifts, and the skiing suits most levels of ability, save the most exacting. Snowboarders are well catered for and of course ski lessons are readily available.
It is only about a 7 minute walk to the lifts, where skis and boots can be stored for the week for a nominal fee, though mostly people seemed happy to walk or take a free bus from outside the Riegler.

Saalbach is an attractive, typical ski resort, with plenty ofbars and restaurants, though few shops,Apreski abounds and there is something for every taste, from a standup beer and a burger for 5euros or a fullblown austrian restaurant experience.
The Riegler has a happy hour each evening when reasonably priced cocktails are available. I found food and drink prices to be significantly lower than at home and austrian hospitality impeccable, though at the Riegler things are distinctly British.

Christmas morning scrambled eggs and smoked salmon was dished up and a traditional christmas fare in the evening, though some of the young and enthusiastic staff looked a little jaded from their celebrations!.

The Riegler has clean and functional rooms, all with ensuite facilities, loo shower, no bath and many rooms enjoy a balcony view of the mountains. tea and coffee making services are not available in the rooms, so a travel kettle is a worthwhile investment.

The Hotel is often used by visiting school groups and this is easy enough to see but over the Christmas week there was a wide range of all ages and abilities.

The return journey ran like clockwork, BA from Munich to Heathrow, again about a two hour coach trip from Saalbach, which means an early start, about 6/00am but of course an early landing .

In short the Riegler provides a great base for your holiday and the hotel does exactly what is required of it. No frills accomodation, pleasant and enthusiastic staff, adequate catering and all in all, I thiink that Rocketski and the "Rocketeers", make for an affordable Christmas break and no "Eastenders" to boot!

I would seriously consider rebooking this Hotel and holiday. Well Done.

The last review is totally different from our experience, just 10 days beforehand. I took a school group of 28 and we had a really nice time at the Riegler and found the exact opposite to many of your points. The food was really good: homemade soups and interesting dishes (our party was mainly vegetarian). Service was impeccable: Nicola in particular was so helpful. There was also a large adult group in at the same time as us, and we had no problems with sleep or noise etc.

Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, and we found everyone to be friendly and professional.

We thought they could have put on some warm food for breakfast, but that was our only real gripe with the hotel. Showers were always warm and powerful, rooms basic but extremely clean.

Skiing was well organised, in terms of rental and help with where to go.

I wonder if we were lucky, or you were unlucky, but I do know that if Nicola had been asked to keep people quieter by us, she would have been very quick to help, as she was with anything we asked about. The hotel staff could not have been more obliging in that respect, cleaning staff, bar and restaurant staff and reps, as well as management.

The hotel is very Austrian despite its English staff, and it was a nice experience for everyone. They should get a woodburner though...that would top it all off in the evenings!

Club hotel run by EquitySki/RocketSki.com specialising in school trips.
During our stay the whole hotel except for 8 guests occupied by a large party of adults from Essex, who partied every night at the hotel until early morning without even slightest regard for other guests, hence very little sleep for us. Food portions adequately described by our fellow skier from Scotland as "Gulag recipes" and "prison rations". Portions not only very small and tasteless but also regularly missing some menu items, i.e. vegetables for a main meal or ice cream or cream for desserts. Chef apparently more interested in snowboarding than cooking. Was absent one day after an accident while snowboarding.
Rooms basic but adequate for the price, however sleep poor due to very noisy partying every night. No protection offered from hotel management.
So if you want to have decent food and a rest after all day skiing you better look elsewhere.

We booked our trip to Saalbach through Rocketski. A couple of friends had recommended Saalbach and the resort is excellent. The hotel sits about 10 minutes from the center of town. It is up a steep driveway. But the it was cleared quickly when it snowed and wasn't a problem in ski boots with skis.

The hotel would benefit from a refit, but it was very clean and had a lot of charm. The rooms were a good size. Everyone had a private bathroom, good heating, comfortable and big double beds for couples and we all had access to a gorgeous balcony. The views from the hotel are fantastic. It sits slightly above all the other nearby hotels. You can see from Saalbach all the way into Hinterglem - very nice to wake up to.

The staff were great. They were young and were all out working a season. They were also professional, rooms were kept spotless, breakfast and dinner ran smoothly and the bartender Sophie was really friendly. The manager Paul was a warm and friendly host as was our rep Nichola. They both gave us great recommendations for places to ski, go out to dinner and hit the apres!

Dinners were very good. Decent portions and they took care of one of our group with food allergies every night. Desserts were amazing! Breakfast was pretty basic, a good cold buffet but they should have eggs or something as porridge can get boring after a few days.

While we were there we even saw Herr Riegler who owns the hotel. He's 90 and still visits the bar during apres ski to talk to the ladies. Legend

The Riegler is an old hotel. But it's well maintained, has a friendly and well managed staff, good food and some ambience. There's Sky TV in the lounge (they let us hook our video camera to the flat screen after dinner), we had a working internet terminal in the lobby and mobile reception was excellent (fast internet on my iPhone). For the price, Saalbach and the Riegler were one of our best ski deals ever.

A group of 25 of us have just returned from a trip to this resort and hotel and the most repeated comment was:

"If this hotel was in the town centre it would be perfect"

That said whilst it is a 10 min walk in street shoes to the nearest lift, you can hire ski and boot lockers in the resort centre, therefore that's what the whole group did so we never had to get the ski bus.

The steep incline to the hotel from the main road where you are dropped off by the transfer bus is an absolute killer in heavy snow and with luggage, but we only had to do that the once so it's tolerable.

The food in the hotel was of good quality and generous portions, the only down side for us was other than porridge there was no cooked breakfast available on request whereas in other clubhotels we've stayed there has been. We did mention this to the manager and he said he has already mentioned this to the Company as others have said the same thing.

The hotel staff were all very helpful, polite and chatty which is surprising being as they are all quite young, the hotel manager is an excellent host and tried to accomodate us with our various requests like different foods for dinner, providing birthday cakes for some of the party, letting as have our quiz and presentation evenings in the restaurant area once everyone else had finished eating.

The hotel bar is well stocked and if you fancy trying some of the local drinks the staff have an in depth knowledge and are happy to make them for you. The bar prices are also reasonable for a ski hotel.

All in all we had a great holiday, this a brilliant resort and an ideal hotel.

The rooms are basic but are clean and not showing any signs of wear and tear, we never returned to find our doors unlocked after cleaning.
