“2nd best”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 February 2013

Having been to many skiing resorts in the Alps and in particular in Austria, Saalbach still remained to be discovered. In a nutshell: it's good - but there are better choices. The same goes for Rosentalerhof: it's OK - but I've been to places that offer more for the same price.

Yes, they have a sauna. But it's too small for the the size of the hotel. And it's old. And yes, they have an heated outdoor pool. But that one's tiny, too. Furthermore the pool and the sauna area are connected and while those who use the sauna do so in the Austrian way (no clothes on), those who use the pool do so in correct swimwear, creating awkward situations for both. Managment should sort that out by dividing the areas.

There a two lifs nearby; however in order to get to the main gondola you have to walk some 5-10 minutes and a part of the walk is pretty steep.

The room we had was somewhat outdated, in particular the bath room was old. But the beds were comfortable so that we slept very well.

In essence: no bad, but I would always prefer the resorts in Tyrolia as they are higher up, offer better skiing and more value for money.

I joined a family I know for the Skiwoche in February 2012. Rosentalerhof is walking distance from one of the main lifts and Skischule. This means once you get there you don't have to worry about the car for the week. Andrea and Martin can also speak English and probably a few other languages too. I had a single room and my friends had an appartment. Both were great, very clean and comfortable. Of course I would like more English TV channels but that wasn't why I was in Saalbach. I did have WiFi (costs extra) so was happy. Food was fresh and healthy, wines were good and there is an excellent Schnapps distillery not far away. Whoever was serving in the evenings remembered what everyone liked to drink. This was an extremely friendly hotel with everything I would want for a ski week except for in house massage.

Excellent hotel! Only a 5 minute walk away from the ski lifts and the town centre, and yet in a quiet location so we slept very well here. Comfortable rooms with good quality beds, a nice balcony and view on the slopes. Great food, and enough choice also for vegetarians. The warm outdoor pool and the saunas were great after a day of snowboarding. The best thing about this hotel though, is the personal and friendly style. Both owners and staff are so friendly and welcoming, we immediately felt at home here. We will be back.

Room Tip: Rooms above the swimming pool have a great view.
