“Friendly Hotel”
Reviewed 23 February 2014

Just returned from our 2nd stay at Konig having stayed there last year. And we were not disappointed. The staff are so friendly. The food is lovely. The location is excellent. And at 2,500 euros for a 4 person suite for the half term week including dinners, it really is excellent value for money. We booked direct by email as the receptionist speaks excellent English. Ok, this is not a luxurious hotel, but the rooms are clean, the bar and restaurant are very comfortable and you feel "at home" there straight away. The boot room could do with a refurb, but this is a minor criticism as it does the job!

We have just returned from a week at this hotel. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a fridge and tea/coffee making facilities. We found the food in the restaurant very nice, and the hotel were happy to provide sandwiches for lunch. We also had free Wi-Fi for the week. I thought the hotel was well located - we travelled with Crystal, so we were a stones-throw from the ski-school in one direction and equipment hire shop in the other, so it was perfect for us. At the back of the hotel, you can take a short walk up the small nursery slope and you are at the ski-lift at the bottom of the nursery slopes. You can also ski down it practically to the hotel door in the evening! We made good use of the ski-room in the hotel basement, which had heating so our boots were lovely and warm each morning. The only downfall was that our room was located on the stairwell, so we did get woken up at night with people stomping up the stairs, having loud conversations at 3am, and slamming fire doors - but you can't blame the hotel staff for this! We would definitely book a holiday at this hotel again.

just returned from the Konig on Saturday and I would like to be honest and frank about this Hotel.I would agree its definitely not traditionally Austrian. The food was mainly Greek inspired but was well cooked and enough for everyone. Desserts were a let down with only one choice each eve. service was polite and efficient but we did find the dinning area a bit oppressive. The room was very small but was clean and ours had a little fridge and a kettle cups etc. Victoria on reception was very good and was super quick to sort any requests, I asked for new firmer pillows and they were on the bed when we returned from skiing! the sauna and steam room were fine and looked new. take your own dressing gown and flip flops though as not provided. The boot room was small and overcrowded and needs upgrading with defined areas for boots/skis/boards.

Room Tip: ask for a room at the back to avoid noise from main road.

I don't know whether this hotel has changed hands but we have been here a week and it is devoid of atmosphere. The food is very poor (all self help buffet, very cost conscious, rarely fresh produce- a bit like a work canteen and frankly an embarrassment to Austrian cuisine which is generally wonderful). The room is very basic, noisy. a very small shower/bathroom and a toilet in what appears to be a converted cupboard...effusing all the lovely aromas of everyone on floor 3! Definitely not recommended... Not even in a good location - down a hill out of the centre. We expected so much more after reading other reviews on TripAdvisor

We visited Hotel Konig in early January. The hotel was lovely and clean, the staff were very friendly, helpful and the food was amazing. The only niggle we had was it was a bit noisy at the weekend with some of the other guests. Whilst this was not the hotel's fault it was lost in translation when trying get to the reception to deal with it. Overall the location is good, the food good and we would definitely return.

Room Tip: Try to get a room away from the front of the hotel and WIFI is temperamental

The hotel offers the perfect balance of luxury, convenience, functionality and location. The quality of food is outstanding. The staff are very pleasant, hotel is clean and recently refurbished. Its central location is ideal for eager skiers and town explores alike.

Saalbach is a wonderful town, with brilliant skiing for beginners right up to experienced skiers. This Hotel, although not in the centre of town, is closely located to ski lifts and is on the beginners slope (brilliant location for Beginner or 1st time skiers!). We also used this little slope to go bum-boarding in the evenings once the slopes had closed, which was enormous fun for everyone!

Location: Brilliant for beginner skiers, but not ideal for more experienced skiers. Also a little distance to get to the centre of town. Though it is ski in, which is ideal.

Rooms: Rooms were large, nicely decorated and clean. Our room had a wonderful balcony looking over the beginner slope - a real bonus (especially if you have friends/family practising on the slope, and you are able to watch from your room)!

Food/Dining Room: Small cozy dining room. Food was brilliant, though it did get boring after 9 days of similar food. But it was delicious, so I can't complain.

The hotel also had a sauna, which was great after a long day of skiing.

The area, the food and the hotel were all perfect if you and your family are beginners (which we are not - though some of our group were). If you are more experienced, maybe look at the Kolmuis Hotel **** (not sure of the spelling) which is a bit more expensive - but closer to the bigger slopes and centre of town.

Thank you Konig for an enjoyable skiing holiday!!
