We stayed in a family room at the front of the hotel on the second floor. I wasn't expecting it to be as fantastic as it was and certainly not when it was an all-inclusive deal where our two children stayed and ate for free but boy was I wrong! We were very quickly and smoothly checked in by the reception staff. This was great as the taxi transfer time from Salzburg Airport is one hour and it was a particularly hot day and our children were starting to wither in the heat and just wanted to get into the pool. Once checked in, our children (11 and 8) were offered a choice from a selection of really cute cuddly toys which was a lovely touch, particularly so for younger children and the toys themselves were not cheap or tacky in any way. We were shown to a large family room with a balcony (which had tasteful wicker furniture and a clothes drier). The room itself had a large double bed in the middle of the room with single beds for the children, and a sofa. Although this may seem like a lot of furniture in one room, there was ample walking room and nothing felt squashed together in any way. The bathroom was a good size with a separate toilet and both were thoroughly cleaned everyday. The food at the hotel was totally AMAZING! My family and I like our food a lot and I did not have high expectations of an all inclusive resort but there was a vast array of dishes and in fact the amount of choice was quite overwhelming at first! The first day at breakfast I spent a good ten minutes just looking at everything on offer and chiding what to have first! I knew that the resort used a lot of locally sourced organic produce from the information I had read but never did I expect the variety and quality of ingredients and the cooking skill that is on offer at this hotel. Most nights there is a choice from two six course menus one of which is a gourmet menu and the other a regional dishes menu. There is also in addition to this an organic and whole foods menu. At breakfast each morning, you are given the various menus for the day and asked to mark your choices. You may either choose one whole menu or pick and choose dishes from different menus. The flexibility that this mix and match offered was wonderful although we all chose the gourmet menu most nights. There is also no minimum or maximum number of courses you can have so guests may just choose one course or all six..or more! There is also a children's menu available although as you would expect, there are a lot of fried items and in fact the choice is so great from the other menus that our 8 year old son only ordered from this menu once and had the gourmet menu the rest of the time. The staff at this hotel are just so attentive and nothing was ever too much trouble if we made a request. We were particularly impressed with the quality of service we received from the staff in the dining room who went out of their way to make every meal a memorable experience. Our two children simply loved the pool area and what we as parents liked about it was the fact that we could see them in the pool at all times and k we that they were safe and would not get lost as in some resorts the pool area can be quite sprawling which limits the poolside relaxing, sun-soaking and reading ability of parents as you are constantly worrying about where your child is and whether they are alright. This was not a problem at this hotel. We all enjoyed the provision of afternoon tea each day which was particularly lovely when taken outside in the sunny garden area of the hotel and the selection of cakes on offer were simply wonderful. We stayed at the hotel during the first week in August and the weather was in the mid to high thirties and very sunny. This meant that we had to sleep with the balcony door open but we didn't mind this and much preferred it to air conditioning. The hotel provide a mini bar in the rooms which is stocked and refilled everyday with juices and sparkling water. We found these complimentary refreshments in our room an absolute godsend given that it was so hot! At the time of visiting, it was our daughter's eleventh birthday. On the evening of her birthday, the staff had decorated our table and bought her a birthday present. It was not at all a token gift, but a present which the owner Marianne had especially gone out into the village herself and had bought with the gender and age of our child in mind. Our daughter was thrilled with the gift and was something she had seen her friends with so was over the moon that she now had her own. This small but important gesture is a reflection of the care and attention taken over every aspect of the way this family hotel is run. Our kids also enjoyed child-friendly massages at the hotel spa which was a nice touch, although I must say that I don't think that the neck and back massage I had was quite as gentle as theirs. I would advise anyone having a massage to decide whether they would like to be kneaded like a ball of dough or whether they would like a more relaxing gentle experience as I did not indicate this and so received the former! The views from the hotel are simply stunning in the summer months, both from our room and the pool area. It was wonderful both for the mind and spirit to wake up each morning and take in the splendour of wooded alpine mountainside or to relax in the hot tub in the pool area outside and admire a lightning display from a looming thunderstorm! The mini golf course which is a short five minute walk from the hotel is a great way of spending a couple of hours and complimentary bike hire is also offered by the hotel so we took a family ride one sunny afternoon which was fun. We also spent one memorable morning with the owner Marianne who organised a trip to a local organic cheese making farm up in the mountains for a cheese tasting and to a local organic fruit and vegetable farm which supplies the hotel with most of it's fresh produce. These excursions were complimentary and again it is a reflection of the hotel's ethos and commitment to providing something over and above good rooms, good food and good facilities and wanting to provide guests with an unforgettable experience as Marianne took time out of her busy day to take us there. Our family very much enjoyed the cheese farm and particularly the cheese tasting! As a direct result of the trip to the organic vegetable farm, our son who previously had a serious hatred of fresh tomatoes now can't get enough of them since plucking his own off the vine at the farm as the farmers were very obliging in letting us taste some of the produce. I really can't say enough good things about this hotel. The summer deal we had with the joker card (which lets you use chair lifts for free and certain other attractions such as the mini golf) was absolutely brilliant value for money as the only thing you have to pay for at the hotel is any alcohol you have. Our bill wasn't too painful considering how much my husband liked the Austrian beers on offer! The hotel owners Marianne and Harald are such warm and friendly people who clearly strive to provide the very highest standard of service to all their guests. I am sure the rate that the hotel charges during the peak skiing season shoots up in comparison to the low season summer rate but whatever time of year you go, I very much doubt you will be disappointed with the all round standards offered by Hotel Gartentheresia.

Room Tip: We were at the front of the hotel and there was a bit of early morning traffic noise as we needed to sleep with the balcony door open due to the summer temperatures but this did not disturb us too much and we very rarely woke up before 8am.

A random Google search lead us to this hotel and what a fortuitous find it was! Our week (full board) in August 2013 was our best family holiday yet. The hotel is fantastic, particularly the food - their website sounded almost too good to be true but in reality it was even better than expected. Huge choice, all of it absolutely delicious and as fresh as can be. Our 8 yr old was most impressed with the entire frame of honeycomb (locally sourced of course) available at breakfast.

The staff smile all the time, and it feels genuine, not forced. They are incredibly helpful and friendly, know all the local info including the bus timetable from memory!

We had the Hochalm suite which had an upstairs bedroom that our boys were very excited about. There was plenty of space, particularly as double bed in the main room disappeared into the wall to reveal a sofa!

Whilst we didn't really make much use of it, the (free) Kids Club looked excellent and the 'nanny' was very impressive, introducing games in 3 different languages without batting an eyelid.

There is so much on offer in the region, particularly for families. Our 3 children (8, 6 & 2) enjoyed swimming, cable cars, mountain trails, a huge bridge suspended over a valley, Europe's highest treetop walk, train rides, swimming in lakes, birds of prey - and almost all of that for free, included in the Joker Card. We will definitely go back.

We visited Saalbach, having seen the Theresia recommended and made our own arrangements to travel there independently. This hotel was a fantastic first visit to Austria and we have already decided to return next year. The hotel combines being a clean and efficient four-star hotel with the character and friendliness of a family guesthouse. The food is out of this world, the rooms were large and comfortable with everything you could possible need. Combined with the wonderful location from which to enjoy the fantastic countryside this hotel is an absolute gem and many thanks to all the staff for making our stay such a special one.

My wife and I spent 2 weeks during July 2013 at the Theresia. The staff were very friendly, courteous and professional. The meals outstanding. We enjoyed the complimentary soft drinks from the mini bar, the packed lunches and above all the afternoon teas in the garden. We did enjoy excellent weather and used the swimming pools extensively. We booked through Inghams.

Room Tip: We upgraded our room to a garden view and we had a corner room.

We were really unlucky with the weather in June (it rained for 5 days out of the 7 we were there and rather chilly) and if it hadn't been for the hotel it would have been a very disappointing holiday. The staff were all very friendly and excellent, they always seemed to know what you wanted and one waiter told me that 'everything is possible' when I asked him a question, which I thought was a great reply - we still quote him now. Our room was comfortable, clean and quiet. One day it was my husband's birthday and they decorated our dinner table for him and when we returned to our room a bottle of wine was waiting for us - and it wasn't a cheap bottle either.
The food!! The food was out of this world. 4/5 courses and I was greedy enough to have a dessert AND cheese! The cheese is made locally and Mrs Brettermeir - the owner of our hotel along with her husband - took us to see the chap who makes the cheese and he showed us where/how he makes it with only 19 cows. The gala dinner was wonderful and I did a review of it on my daughter's website 'livelifelovecake' - take a look. The wine list is extensive and we found a wine from our favourite vineyard in Italy, rather expensive but we had to have it. It was so good we had it twice. At lunch time you could eat in at the hotel where pasta and soup was offered along with a salad bar which was really nice, bread and desserts. If you were out for the day you could make up a picnic at breakfast time. In the afternoon cakes were available along with hot/cold drinks. So, full-board really.
We borrowed the hotel's bikes and it's downhill all the way to Zell-am-see. Trouble is it's up hill all the way back again, but as I cycled up Mt.Ventoux (the official TDF route from Bedoin) without stopping two weeks prior to this holiday it was a doddle. We also used them to do the 'Milka' run, although I'm not quite sure they were up to it, but we survived and so did the bikes.
We aim to return.
Thank you Mr & Mrs Brettermeir and your wonderful staff for making our holiday a 'sunny' one instead of a complete wash-out.
