I hesitate to review this with 5 stars because I don't want the Gasthof to be overrun with all kinds of visitors! It is a true find, indeed!

My husband and I were so impressed with this beautiful guest house. Located on the Wolfgangsee, it presents an very idyllic setting for relaxation and fun. The room was very nice and the view from our flowered deck was serene and beautiful.

Since the Gasthof Furberg is a bed and breakfast, we were anxious to see what was served at breakfast -- it was unbelievable! Absolutely THE BEST spread of cheeses, ham, breads, croissants, fruit, coffee, juices, sweets, cereals........anything you want! This was the best breakfast of our entire trip! We ate dinner in the dining room every evening and were very happy with every meal. The wait staff is cordial and very accommodating.

A large boat arrives on schedule to take you to other ports on the Wolfgangsee -- St. Gilgen proper, Wolfgang, Strobl, etc. The boat is relaxing and reliable.

If you need tickets for the boat or the rack train, discounted tickets are offered at the reception desk.

Stay here -- you won't be disappointed! The owners and staff take pride in their guest house!

We are staying at this beautiful hotel, lakeside room with balcony. The view across the lake is stunning. The staff here are delightful and polite and the food is five star, eating out on the terrace.
Lovely garden to stroll in and a paddle boat to borrow and explore the lake with. Friendly swans beckon you to take a swim!

Room Tip: Ask for a lakeside room in main house,

We were only in the restaurant but we were very satisfied. We liked the environment and the location of the hotel. The service was very friendly and smiling. Outdoor seating also very pleasantly surprised.

I have a list of best hotels, the best I stayed in holidaying alone, the best on business etc. When we first visited this hotel many years ago immediately it became the best I have stayed at with my wife. When we went back with our sons it became the best family hotel too. Nothing is too much trouble for anyone. The views are of course stunning. If I was to win lots of money, I would pay for everyone I liked to have a week there. My teenage sons are desperate to go back and one said "if you go there I will still come with you even when I am fifty"

We first discovered Gastof Furberg many years ago when walking from St. Gilgen to St. Wolfgang when we stopped for an enjoyable lunch under the Chestnut Trees, enjoyed the beautiful view and decided that Furburg would be our next holiday destination. A charming receptionist showed us several rooms and we immediately fell in love with the beautiful top floor lake view suite where we have stayed many times over the past years.
The delicious food is locally sourced, all very healthy and superbly cooked by Frau Ebner and her staff. Favourite dinners are fish freshly caught in the lake by Herr Ebner, he chugs off each day in his little boat and later returns with his catch.
Last year for health reasons we had to cancel, so we are particularly looking forward to returning for a week early in June and again meeting Family Ebner and their friendly helpful staff.

Room Tip: All rooms good, but the excellent lake view suites are well worth the extra.

After a great week in Austria staying at two other hotels without any problems we arrived at the Gasthof Hotel Fürberg early and therefore decided to walk the 30 minutes to St Gilgen as it was too early to check in. It was a hot day and when we returned and collected the bags from the car we were looking forward to checking into our room and getting a cold drink. We were then told that we didn't actually have a room because the booking hadn't been confirmed and the hotel was fully booked. I produced my expedia letter clearly stating that it was a confirmed booking and that I did not need to contact anybody to confirm anything further but was told the room had been given to somebody else and no rooms were available. The hotel was very busy with a wedding and it is possible they had given the room to a guest of that wedding. So there we were, in another country, hot and tired and being told that the room we had booked and received a confirmation email for had been given away and there was nothing that could or would be done. This was our honeymoon and the rest of the day was spent finding alternative accomodation elsewhere, thank you Gasthof Hotel Fürberg for ruining what would have been a fantastic week.

We were staying in St. Gilgen and enjoyed a gentle 45 minute walk to this hotel/restaurant, which is situated right beside the lake. Fortunately we were there on a beautiful day and we ate outside overlooking the lake and the mountains. The food wasn't cheap but our lunch was excellent - we realised we were probably paying for the view AND the food, but we didn't mind!
