“Wonderful place to stay”

Hotel Berner is an amazing hotel. The service was fantastic, the food is superb and the scenery is magnificent. I will definitely go back to Zell am see and stay at Hotel Berner.
Hotel Berner is so central its a 2 minute walk to most places.
The spa and pool are very well kept, neat and clean.
I would like to come back in winter next time I visit.

Room Tip: Lake view room

The Hotel Berner was personally recommended to us by our travel agent who had stayed there earlier in the year. My wife, daughter and I stayed for 1 week on a half board basis in a Junior Lake View Room with a balcony, which was tastefully furnished and very comfortable. We were warmly welcomed by the one of the family who own and run the hotel and we found all the staff to be very friendly and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble. Our breakfasts were excellent and the only suggestion for improvement with dinner would be the addition of a third option for the main course. The hotel is situated a 10 minute walk up the hill from the town centre which means it is very peaceful and also offers great views over Lake Zell and the surrounding mountains. This was our first visit to Austria and we wanted to see as much as possible. We had day trips to Berchtesgaden (including visits to Hitler's Eagles Nest and nearby Salt Mines which were both very interesting in very different ways), Kimmel Falls (the highest waterfalls in Europe) and Salzburg. We also took the Porsche cable car to the summit of the Schmittenhohe which gave us fantastic views of the neighbouring mountains and over Lake Zell. We walked half way around the lake and caught the ferry back to Zell an See. We had a great holiday in a fabulous location and would definitely recommend Hotel Berner as a great place to stay.

We stayed here for 2 nights in August. The location is very good - central, but away from the main roads so it was very quiet.
The service was very good - everyone was very friendly and attentive - the best part of the hotel.
Our room was ok - clean enough, but it seeed a little tired, had a permanent funny smell and was so so hot, with no airconditioning (that we could find). If we had been staying for more than 2 nights I would have asked for another room - although I would not be confident others were better.
The food was the most disappointing part - it was really poor. It felt like going back in time to some kind of old-fashioned school. My pasta starter was terriblee and came on a plate the size of a saucer - very strange. Breakfast was similarly poor, although not as bad as the cooked food. The food was so bad that we ate out on the second night, even though we had half board.
We would not come again to to this hotel due to the food and the room.

Spent 2 nights in Junior Lake View room in July.

Room with panaroma view of lake was very nice, and balcony was handy at night waiting for the room to cool down - no aircon, hence had to leave balcony door/window open to cool things down.

Bathroom separate from toilet, with shower in bath.
Very good quality LCD TV had few English channels.
Breakfast was fine, including hot dishes.

Very friendly & attentive staff.
Outdoor pool area was very relaxing.

Room Tip: Lake view with balcony is very nice

My husband and I stayed here for one night a couple of weeks ago whilst we were travelling from Salzburg to Innsbruck. The hotel is a very friendly and homely. The staff were very attentive. the rooms were clean and the facilities excellent , with a spa area, outdoor pool and sun deck. It is not directly in the centre of the resort, a short 5-10 minute walk down, not far at all. It was a shame we were only there for one night.. We could quite easily have stayed longer. Definitely somewhere to return to. Would recommend.

We stayed here for a week, mostly playing golf in the area. The hotel is typically Austrian (we know them from skiing trips to similar resorts). The staff are excellent, couldn't do enough for guests and were very friendly and helpful. We had a very nice dual aspect junior suite, which was very helpful in keeping the room cooler in the unusual 33C temperatures. The breakfast is good but I missed there being no croissants. The multiple course dinners were also very good and with adequate choice to suit most tastes. The outside pool was just right for cooling down at the end of the day.
The stay would have been superb if a few things had been better, for example:
we could have taken our meals outside in the lovely weather as the dining room was too warm even though it was claimed to be air-conditioned; the wifi connection was weak except in reception; we don't think our bed linen was changed during the week.
Nevertheless, a summer stay here was a delight.

We have just returned from a weeks stay in the Hotel Berner and found it to be very charming and in a superbly quite but central position for an easy 3 or 4 minute stroll into Zell am See. We travelled by car from the UK and the hotel's private garage was absolutely first class.
The gondola's and lifts are within a few minutes stroll and with the Zell am See/Kaprun card given to guests by the hotel, it cost absolutely nothing to use all the lifts as well as the boat trips on the lakes and many other attractions in the area were also free to enter with the card.
The hotel pool was fantastic, being beautifully sited in the sunshine with excellent quality sunbeds with deep pile cushions the like of which you would struggle to find in a five star beach hotel in the Caribbean! The leisure facilities - sauna - steam room etc were also excellent and there were always an abundant supply of clean pool towels available.
All the staff in this hotel are unbelievably friendly and went far out of their way to ensure our holiday was enjoyable and we would like to give particular thanks to the owners, Christoph and Gottfried, who were so helpful and friendly.
This is a gem of a hotel that you feel sorry to leave and we will definitely return as soon as we can.
