Let me start by saying that none of the websites I looked at did this hotel justice. I recently had the joy of organising a ski conference for my company. We had a very tight budget and wanted a decent resort to spend a long weekend skiing with a bit of 'conference' thrown in. The hotel was an unexpected joy.

My room dropped straight into the lake and I took endless delight from lying in my exceedingly comfortable bed after a long day of work and ski, listening to the sounds of the water lapping and watching the twinkling lights amidst snow. The staff were lovely, the food tasty and the rooms the perfect escape. It was so good, I missed the hotel spa for the privacy of my own room!

Whilst not on the slopes, the walk through the pretty town centre of Zell am See was painless and I would definitely book here again. I highly recommend the short drive to Kaprun and skiing the glacier. I would even go say I'd love to come back in the summer just to sit on my balcony and enjoy the lakeside walks.

Room Tip: I had a lake level room at the very end of the hotel away from the main corridors. It was a bit of a...

Our second visit to this hotel, stayed here last Feb for skiing week and liked it enough to want to return. However second visits never quite live up to the memory of the the first and although it was very good and we thoroughly enjoyed the week, standards had slipped from the previous year. For example, there was no tea/coffee making facilities in the room this year: we asked for some and were given a kettle, but no cups or tea bags, they wanted to charge 7 euro for 2 tea bags! Also the breakfast buffet was not as extensive, something you probably would not have noticed had you not stayed there before. Dining room has a spectacular view over the frozen lake, but make sure you get a table with a view, there are half a dozen that don't. There is a free shuttle service to the ski lift, morning and evening. However at the end of the day we were made to feel like it was an imposition on the Hotel Manager, she made it feel like an effort rather than a pleasure to assist.
Great skiing with lots of variety and plenty of places for lunch on the slopes. We spent most of the week skiing Schmittenhohe & Sonnenalm, caught the bus to Kaprun on the last day, but wouldn't bother again. All round a great holiday.

Room Tip: All rooms have a lake view, we chose a room with a bath rather than a shower, a requirement for our...

I'm going to get the negatives out of the way first. Under normal circumstances I would probably give this hotel 4/5 instead of 5, simply because the wifi in my room wasn't great (although it was fine in reception/bar area) and you have to re-log in from scratch every so often. Also the hotel bar seems to shut very early (maybe by 10.30 from memory).

However, these are relatively minor issues as everything else in the hotel was extremely good and every member of staff was friendly and very helpful on every occasion I asked them something (this ranges from cleaning staff to front desk staff to waiters/waitresses).

View from the room was spectacular, the room and bathroom was large with a nice balcony overlooking the lake and very comfortable. Hotel was spotlessly clean. The meals in the hotel were very good (probably go as far as to say the best I've had in any hotel in a ski resort).

If you're there on a ski trip it's about 10 minutes walk from the main City Express Lift. There is a free shuttle, but it's limited to 3 or 4 times and you need to pre-book the night before, so my advice would be to hire a locker at the Intersport at the City Express lift so you can come and go at any time you like without having to drag skis and boots around.

Zell Am See is a nice town - shops seem to shut pretty early, but there are plenty of bars and restaurants open late and the hotel is only 5-10 minutes walk from the centre of town.

I would definitely recommend both the town and this hotel as a good place to go.

Very nice hotel, far enough from the village center to have a silent environment, but close enough to reach fun by a 5 minute walk (in Zell am See everything is 5 minutes away ;))
The heating can not be controlled from the room, so you need to quickly adapt yourself to 22 degrees in the room. But this is considered to be healthy, even if you feel uncomfortable if case you got used to something different.
The cuisine is not any special, however you can get a good a deal if you book a half-pension. We've got upgraded and had a good meal every evening.
Ski shuttles are included and frequent enough: 9:00, 9:30 and I think one at 10:00. Than at 4:00 and 4:30 back.
We'll definitely come back.

Room Tip: I believe all rooms are facing towards the lake, but in order to be sure to get a spectacular view...

The first thing you notice is it's location. It's right where you want to be - right beside the lake! It's a beautiful view to fall asleep to and a wonderful sight to behold when you wake. There is an uninstructed view of the entire lake. You almost feel like you could step off the balcony and into the waters below.

A picture says a thousand words. Take a look. Did I mention every room has a lake-view?

Location: 15 mins walk from the main train station. Take a cab for about 6 Euros, or walk along the lake till you reach if, if the weather permits. Dont try this with luggage, the path is hard on the wheels.

Hotel is about 7 mins walk from bus stop that will take you to nearby ski venues, Kaprun and neighbouring villages. It was easy to catch a bus to Kaprun to go snowshoe hiking along the Kitzsteinhorn trails.

Service: excellent. Breakfast provided and sumptuous. Continental cuisine, eggs bacon pastries etc. very fresh, very good. Dining venue has clear view of the lake.

Additional bathroom items available upon request - bathrobes/ slippers etc

Facilities:
The gym is fairly well equipped, mostly cardio equipment.
Wifi provided, but may be weak in certain rooms. Had to sit by the toilet to receive a clear signal.

We also took a walk around Zell am See in the little time we had, and also ate dinner at another highly rated hotel nearby. Looking back, there was no question we made the best choice with Seevilla Freiberg.

Very keen to go back during summer time when the view is said to be even more spectacular!

Location: Within 10-12min walk from Zell am See train station. Just walk by the lake towards Grand Hotel. Look out for signages that show u directions to various hotels, one of which directs you to Seevilla Freiberg. If you are dragging luggages like us, and wanna save the hassle to pull your luggages over pebbled roads, you can easily hail a cab at the Zell am See startion, costing around €6-7 to the hotel, reaching within 3min. If you wanna go Kitzsteinhorn or Schmitten, they can be easily assessed by catching Postbus 660 just behind the hotel (Zell am See Hallenbad bus stop). Ask the friendly hotel staff for direction if in doubt.
Room: Tastefully furnished with wood furniture, and spacious bathroom. Our room overlooks the lake facing the snow mountain. The balcony in the room has provided a gd lookout point to admire the scenery and watch the swans glide past the lake from the comfort of our room. The room comes with complimentary wifi too. Just sit near the door entrance of the room if your reception is bad. It might do the trick.
Breakfast: Included in our room rate. Wide variety. Dining room has an unobstructed view of the lake and mountains.

Room Tip: Request for top floor.

We just booked our third stay at Seevilla Freibergh, for February 2013 half term. The photos you see on their website are exactly as the place is, fantastic! Zell am see is beautiful and offers more than just great ski. It may seem expensive but it is worth every penny. We are a family of four, and the hotel was perfect for us, a very nice treat.
Their staff is v friendly and extremely helpful, their restaurant is excellent with a varied and generous menu. The facilities are impeccable.
An all round great holidays!
