The Fischerwirt is located in the heart of Zell am See and is therefore convenient for everything. The rooms are comfortable, well equippped, and spotlessly clean, and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly during our stay.
Breakfasts took the form of a comprehensive buffet. The evening meal menu changed daily and always offered a vegetarian option, and all the food was of high quality and was well cooked and seasoned.
We were on the third floor, with a room overlooking the pedestrianised street (traffic is banned from many of the streets in Zell am See ), with a balcony and lake view. The only minor downside was the thoughtlessness of other holidaymakers returning to other hotels in the early hours. Thankfully, the double glazing was most effective!

We stayed at this hotel at the beginning of April as part of a trip organised by Skiline for the Park Langley club and found the staff to be friendly and helpful. The food was good and lots of it, usually a five course evening meal and there was everything you could want for breakfast. Our bedroom was clean and fine for 2, although I think if you were using the additional pull down bed it would feel too crowded, it was a little dated though. I did see into a couple of other rooms and they looked a bit plusher. Good sauna.

A negative point for me was that smoking is allowed in the bar, as in almost all other bars and restaurants in the resort. Overall I think the hotel was good for its purpose and in the centre of the town so great for going out.

I had taken my son for a week's skiing. We booked a twin with a bath and asked for a quiet room. We got a noisy double with a shower. This hotel is no longer family run (although the previous owner still runs the dining room) and the manager was unpleasant and rude when I politely asked to change the room. It wasn't until the intervention of our tour rep that our issues were partially addressed although I'd rather have changed hotels at that point. The other staff were nice and well meaning but their hands were tied by the manager who must control everything. The food is stuck in some ghastly, pre-war time warp so if you like eating pork and stodge in a very dreary dining room on the same table every night, this is the place for you. I am at a loss as to understand the positive reviews on TripAdvisor and can only conclude that my standards differ widely from other peoples'. This hotel is not a 4*, maybe a modest 3*. Luckily the weather was gorgeous and the skiing was great so all was not lost. A tip ... hire your ski equipment through Intersport, especially if you're visiting toward the end of the season. The ski hire place we used (recommended in advance by the hotel) was a disaster!

Room Tip: Avoid it!

We have just returned from our second visit to the Fischerwirt in Zell and can still highly recommend it.
The staff are very helpful and friendly and will try their best to help out with any requests. The food is great with a buffet breakfast and 4-5 courses of lovely local meals in the evening. Like other people I need to go on diet on returning home. There was some noise when we had the window open at night time but not enough to stop us sleeping.
The Fischerwirt may not have all the amenities of some other 4* hotels but the service, food and value mean it's a winner.
We are already planning our return next winter.

For skiers note that the Smittenhöhe valley station has been upgraded and the lockers now have built in boot and glove driers. We stored 2 sets adult and 2 sets of children's skis in one locker for 25€ fr the week. This is much better than carrying 4 sets f skis on the ski bus each day.

Never stayed in Zell am See and choose Fischerwirt for price and location. Trip advisor had warned of noise due to the location of the hotel but we still decided to go for it. The hotel was typical Austrian chalet style. Our room was clean but rather dark due to wooden walls but we weren't there to spend lots of time in our room.
We had opted for half board and the food was mostly good. Very hearty and filling obviously meant for skiers but was still good in the summer! The manageress was there every night to welcome guests for the evening meal. She was very helpful if a little fierce at times.
The only negative really was the noise at night from the street outside. One particular night there was a street party which was fun when were there but leaving to go to bed before 12 meant we did not get to sleep till 2am and were interrupted at various times in the night. We could not keep the window shut because it was too hot in our room (no air con).
The hotel staff were helpful and guided us to local transport, acitvities and dining. Activities that I recommend our biking round the beautiful lake, canyoning an amazing experience in the gorges about 30 minutes from Zell and a trip up the amazing schmittenhohe.
