“Very friendly hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2014

This is a fine hotel with personal friendly service and very good facilities. Service is efficient and with a smile, and this is an excellent base for staying in the area. Food is very good, though occasionally main courses were not quite as good as the other parts of the meal, and the fondue evening was not exceptional. But these are tiny niggles, too few to mar enjoyment. Location is good for walks and the bus stop for trips to Landeck and further afield is just a short stroll away. This is on my list to revisit.

We stayed at the Jagerhof for 11 days as part of a package holiday. The hotel is well situated; there is a lift opposite taking people down to two moving walkways (Dorf Tunnel) leading to two (of three) lifts on one side and the village centre on the other. The third lift is a short walk from the centre. The hotel is run by Frau Renate Jagerhof - a more pleasant owner/manager would be difficult to find. Most rooms (if not all) have a balcony - most seem to be shared balconies where guests are permitted to smoke. This may be something that could concern other guests. The lounge area also permits smoking. The nearby Church rings its bells at 06:45 every morning - incredible as it may seem, it is possible to sleep through them! The food at the Jagerhof is excellent, except for the chef's night off when the fare is very average. Tables in the restaurant are arranged according to the guest groupings. Tables for one or two people are placed VERY close - so close as to make a private conversation impossible. There is no pool at the Jagerhof. The hotel has a heated boot room which it maintains during the summer for drying boots, coats, etc - very useful. All hotel guests in Ischgl receive a Silvretta Card giving unlimited use of the cable cars and busses in the valley - brilliant! In common with every other Austrian hotel that we have stayed in, the pillows are very soft and may not be everyone's liking. At dinner, the hotel charge for tap water! €2 per litre. I asked why, as I am not accustomed to paying for tap water - "to cover the cost of washing the carafe and glasses". €2 for 2 minutes work is €60 per hour - I want a job in that kitchen!! (0.5 litre costs €1!?). On balance, this is a very good hotel - balconies, water and table placing aside.

Room Tip: Ask for a private balcony.

Just returned from Ischgl. It will be a major construction site all summer so if you have not yet booked then wait until next year. There is a new lift being installed in the centre of the village, a new multi storey carpark and new hotels or major extensions also taking place. Skiing is big business here and summer visitors are expected to put up with the chaos. 9 tall cranes visible. There were more construction workers than tourists when we were there (first week of season)! There are excellent high level walks but valley walks are less inspiring. It is really for serious hikers not valley walkers! Hotel is smallish, family run and very welcoming. We found the food to be fairly average based on other hotel (Alpbacherhof, Salbaccerhof and others). On 2 of our 10 nights the main course was a meat fondue and if you did not want this the alternative was a rather dry lasagne. The food on the (low key) Austrian evening we found quite poor. The smoking policy is a problem. The reception, bar and lounge are all part of the same smallish room and with 2 people smoking at the bar the atmosphere becomes quite acrid. I questioned the son as to why staff were smoking in the dining room. He said that staff were allowed to do this before service began at 1830. On this basis it is difficult to rate the food any more than 3/5 even though there were 1 or 2 excellent meals. Good selection of wines by the carafe.
Poor programme of village events compared with other places we have stayed. No Austrian music drifting from any of the bars or hotels while we were there. Maybe we were just too early. Church bells not really a problem. Good to be up early!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel have no valley view and look out to a police station so avoid rooms 1...

We are just about to leave the Jagerhof after a wonderful week in Ischgl. The hotel is a delightful place to stay. This family run establishment has everything you could wish for - brilliant location, fabulous rooms which are clean and spacious, staff who are friendly and helpful and great food - plentiful and delicious! Yes the church bells ring but guess what - that's what churches in Austria do!! The sound of the bells, the hay making and the Austrian way of life going about its business every day is what we came here for. The hotel is near the cable car and the bus stop so travelling about this beautiful valley with your silvretta card in your hand is just perfect. Hopefully we will be back and would recommend this hotel to others who want to experience a place that prides itself on customer service.

We were looking forward to staying at the Jagerhof after reading previous reviews and were quite disappointed. It was a bit tired and old fashioned in decor and the lounge area was small and uncomfortable. Towels in the room were old and thin. There is no view from the terrace and the hotel is situated next to a church which chimes all night and every morning at 6.45 am rings out 30 chimes to wake you up. None of our group of 10 got a decent nights sleep. Our biggest gripe was having to pay 2 euros for a carafe of tap water with dinner. We also had to pay 5 euros for wifi that didn't work very well.
On the positive side, the hotel is very well situated for access to the slopes and the food was very reasonable.

A great place to stay for a skiing holiday being so close to the lift which brings you down to the Dorf tunnel and onto the lift system. The staff were all equally pleasant, dressed in traditional Tyrollean Dirndls to serve the evening meal. I have had better food in Austria but none the less most evenings it was god with two evenings being superb. The rooms were large and spacious, comfortable and clean with no noise from the next door neighbours. The lady of the house, Renata Jaeger was ever present and ever helpful.
Would I come back again: almost certainly

Room Tip: Probably get better views from higher floors.

Had a week skiing in Ischgl February 2014, and stayed at the Jaegerhof. Everything was spot on, and difficult to fault in any way. Nice room with balcony, excellent food, friendly and efficient staff. Mrs Jaeger is often around - friendly, helpful and knowledgeable - her advice on weather and skiing conditions was more accurate than the internet .
Great location for skiers - just cross the road to the lift to the Dorftunnel moving walkway, which takes you to the gondola.
Nice sunny front terrace for apres ski beer in the sunny, lovely wellness area with steam and sauna rooms.
Excellent boot room with lots of boot heaters, plenty ski storage.

Room Tip: Not all rooms have baths - ask for one that does if you are a skier with tired legs !
