“Great Holiday”
Reviewed 21 February 2014

Came back from a 5 night ski holiday yesterday. Hotel excellent - room warm & spacious, we were travelling with our 13 year old daughter, so booked a 'junior suite' which was a double room with a sofa bed in an adjacent area separated by a wall, so plenty of privacy for all of us. We stayed half board and really enjoyed the 5-course Austrian evening meal and buffet breakfast. If you want chips with everything, this isn,t for you, although the a la carte menu had a wide range of choices including pasta and pizza. The family who own the hotel were friendly and helpful and our smattering of German was Ok to get by with. We arrived half way through evening dinner & they were great & keen to make sure we didn,t miss our meal. The smell of cigarette smoke wafted upstairs at night ( we were on first floor) & not pleasant but hotel & rooms were well aired during the day so not really a problem - all other places we went into were the same. Neiderau is a lovely place, quieter than we expected which we liked, and we would agree that its good for families and beginners. My daughter & I liked the blue/red runs but my husband (who's a red/black skier) thought the harder runs didn't flow as well as in other places so lots of poleing to get from one to another. We spent a day in Aufach which he preferred and it was easy to get there on the Skibus. We flew into Munich and very easy drive from there to the resort. All in all would recommend.

Thanks very much to the other trip advisor reviewers. I think this is an amazing family run hotel. I am here now at half term (room 216, huge and no noise issues yet). I speak no german but understand a little so i feel a bit rude but unlike last months reviewer have no issues being understood or understanding (menus etc in english).

I am here with my 2 young girls and feel welcome as a single parent, many guests are english (or speaking english e.g. Those from netherlands), and we arrived after the 6:00-7:30 dinner time but were still welcomed and offered food. The bar area is smoky but no need to enter it as the rear hotel entrance is the one you use to go to and from the slopes.

In common with niederau in general people are friendly and, it seems, mostly english, mostly from north of london. The playroom is a bit tired and anarchic (people let their kids go in alone) but better than none. There is tabletennis room too. And a sauna (naked....someone left the door open so have checked!)

Austrian food is very amusing and we seem to share our menus with many other hotels having talked to other (soup with batter balls anyone?). I think the food here is very typical austria, it was the same in other places, and there are about 6 courses including salad so nobody is going to go hungry (not sure its ideal for veggies unless you love spinach!). I wish there was bread with dinner for my fussy kids to eat. Breakfast is lovely.

The hotel is especially convenient for the blue ski school, you can get at locker at a few places near the gondola but that is pointless if you are skiing with the blues (not finding them great for the 3 year old, not as kind as you would hope). It is the closest i have ever been to the slopes.

All in all i'm finding this place terrific value for money and i can see why both the hotel and niederau attract return visitors. I would be back in a flash, too bad it's fully booked for my next trip....book early :-)

Room Tip: I agree that higher is better. The top floor is the 3rd

3rd visit to niederau and great time as usual but first time this hotel. Positive points, hotel is very clean as are rooms.breakfast is buffet and plenty choice .dinner was plentiful but food very highly seasoned.and really not to our taste.Down side for us was very few English speaking staff so problems being understood and communicating ,not really many Brits in hotel when we stayed.I know people mention smell of smoke but that allowed every place in resort. Will return to resort but another hotel probably nearer gondola.

Room Tip: We on 3 rd floor which was very quiet.

Stayed here for two weeks the wife and I. Hiking.
This was out third time in Niederau . This hotel was great and the meals excellent, quality and quantity. The room was fine. Pleasant balcony.
Cleanliness excellent.
Staff great in all respects. I was way too late for dinner one night. Big smiles, tell us what you want and we will get it for you.
We will be back next year.
Forget the negative comments I have stayed in some expensive luxury hotels and when you strip it all down this is good good good. And in terms of value for money it is excellent.
Keep it up Shneerburgers.
Peter and Olga.

Stayed here in June 2013 for a Crystal Summer Holiday. Being a 3* don't expect luxury but as previous reviewers have noted the staff are helpful and the rooms adequately equipped. I stayed in a single room which was a bit small but is OK for a week and does have enough storage for clothes plus a generous coat rack for all the hiking gear. Shower was a bit of a gamble as to the temperature of the water so be careful there. Food - Breakfast was typical buffet with lots of choice, evening meal was variable but never awful and some dishes served were very good.
The main advantage for summer hikers at this hotel is the Wildschonau card which gives you free cable cars at Niederau and Auffach plus discounts on other services through the week.

My husband and I stayed in the Schneeberger In March. This was our first visit to this Hotel and this ski area. We will return to both !

We stayed in room 216 which was superb, very spacious, quiet and with great views.
I have read some of the negative reports regarding the smell of smoking. Perhaps the people complaining should have made themselves aware of how Austria still allows smoking in public places !. We are non smokers and would have prefered no smoking but we enjoyed pre and post dinner drinks at the bar each evening in the company of smoking locals.

The family owners and other staff could not have been more kinder or more attentive.

Our only criticism would be the dining area. People staying in the Hotel do not use the main restaurant area which is for the passing trade, both holidmakers and locals. We were seated in a less attractive room which lacked ambience. ( Maybe some dimmed lighting would have helped during the evening meal ! ) There was a three choice menu each evening and we found the food very good.

We are seasoned skiers and knew that the local skiing would be limiting but the red and the black from the top station were wonderful. It was almost like having the mountain to ourselves. The nursery slopes down at the village level looked great and ideal for people learning.
We made full use of the total lift pass and caught the ski bus most mornings to the neighbouring extended ski area. The whole area pass,in a beautiful valley, now provides excellent skiing for a full week.

We had a great holiday and will return to the Hotel Schneeberger

Having been to Niederau several years ago, we were looking forward to our return visit. The Hotel was better than the one we stayed in last time. The room was incredibly spacious, well turned out and cleaned daily and could not be faulted.
The hotel staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, especially the manager Christian. They all went out of their way to make our stay as enjoyable as possible.

The hotel food was very good and plentiful with a good variety of dishes. The only downside was having to decide at breakfast what you wanted for your tea. Breakfast is typically European but with enough variety to suit most people

The hotel is situated about 2-300 metres from the nearest ski lift and the Blue Ski School who also come highly recommended.
The resort has a good mix of blues and reds with some good blacks, but the instructors recon that the reds in Niederau are more technical than the ones at Auffach and are somewhere between reds and blacks.
There is a good ski storage/equipment area in the basement with a side entrance making the trip from/to the ski slopes that little bit easier.
Having left an item of clothing behind at the hotel after departure, all that was required was a quick email to Christian and said item was packaged and posted back to the UK at no cost to myself.
Would I stay in this hotel again? Most definitely
Would I recommend this hotel to friend and family, again most definitely.
As for the comments about smoking, you have to bear in mind that almost all establishments suffer from the same problem as there is no ban on smoking indoors in Austria The the bar in this hotel is no worse than the bar in any other establishment we went in.
I would score this hotel as a 9 out of 10, only because I have yet to score anywhere a 10 out of 10
