“Fabulous Christmas”
Reviewed 31 December 2013

My boyfriend and I have just returned from a 7day holiday in Niederau, staying at the Hotel Austria. We had a lovely time, the rooms were spacious and clean (if they are a little warm you can ask reception and they will turn it down for you, but it's better to be too warm then too cold particularly on a skiing holiday). The staff are all very welcoming in an austrian manner and could not be too kind and helpful, from the cleaners and dining staff to the family who own and work very hard at the hotel. The food is varied and portions are not too big, whilst this may put some people off who want to gorge themselves it certainly didn't put us off. The farmers buffet and the Christmas Gala dinner were our highlights.

I also suffered an injury whilst skiing and Angelika and Susi couldn't do enough to ensure that I got to the Drs safely, they gave us bags of ice to help the inflammation and even changed our table so I could keep my leg raised at mealtimes, hospitality and genuine care like that means more that words can say when you're away from home and in discomfort.

Further to the above is the fantastic location, it is close to the ski school and gondola, it has a ski and boot hire shop below the hotel and the swimming pool and therma pods are a bonus.

Thank you to all of the staff at the hotel, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely both return and recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: Rooms on the sides away from the church would be quieter as the bells go around 5am each morning, bu...

Spent lovely week in Niederau in Hotel Austria - brilliant holiday in the mountains. This hotel was very central, good value and friendly staff. Breakfast was excellent. Dinner typically Austrian- lots of meat and few vegetables, but salad buffet was very good. Overall great experience, fantastic service from the friendly Bummelbahn which stopped outside the door and ran to the other lift at Auffach and to the villages in between.Hotel and location highly recommended.

Room Tip: Room 213 excellent. slept with balcony door open.

Having just returned from 11 days at the Hotel Austria I would like to thank the family run Hotel for a fantastic holiday. All members of the family were friendly and put themselves out to make our stay enjoyable. The views from the rooms are fantastic. The vegetarian menu can only be described as excellent with a choice of about 10 dishes, each one freshly prepared to order.

The best thing about this hotel is the location to the slopes, only a couple of minutes walk from the main gondola and close to the bars. The staff in the restaurant are very friendly. The food was very basic, although there was a choice of 2/3 main dishes these tended to be served without any vegetables. The portions were on the small side and sometimes the desserts were lacking. Yoghurt was served one evening as a dessert!! The food served in the restaurant for guests not staying half board, certainly looked a lot better than food for residents.
The hotel rooms very basic and could have done with a good deep clean. On arrival at the hotel i found a dubious stain on the sheets in the middle of the bed and a pubic hair. I contacted reception and this was immediately rectified. The bathroom was very tired looking and the shower was rubbish.
I wouldn't stay at this hotel again. ask for a room away from the church. The bells ring every hour starting at 6am!

Stayed at Hotel Austria last week the 9th march 2013. We have been staying in neiderau for the last 13 years but first time at the Austria. Was alittle apprehensive at first as the reviews are very mixed but we had eaten a few times lunch time in there which was quite nice so thought we would give tit a go.As we only booked 3 weeks before going and this was then the cheapest hotel we thought we would chance it.We was on the first floor room 108 with beautiful views of the mountains and the church and the best location to the centre of the village. The room was very spacious with a small extension with a sitting area with 2 chairs and a small table in it, but alittle dated and the shag pile carpet was alittle off putting. The bathroom looked like it had been recently retiled and was very clean, although the shower was useless. It basically just came out in 1 and most of it would end up on the floor, so just stuck with a bath. the down side of this room though was the bells!! they rung on every hour until midnight then started again at 5 oclock in the morning then again at 6 followed by two little tunes after and god are they loud. being light sleepers they did get on our nervous. Breakfast was buffet style meats, chesses, jams, rolls, toast and scrambled egg every day. Tea and coffee was served to you by the waitress who were very friendly. The evening meals comprised of salad bar, soup, main choice of 2 meat dishes and a veggie option and dessert. The food was nice but the main course was very small and lacked any vegetables, basically meat and potato. where as most of the other hotels we have stayed in neiderau you have had them with almost every meal. We had prebooked our ski hire which is on the ground floor of the hotel with a boot room and secure ski room in the basement. The men in the shop were very helpful we always go for the top of the range ski's and these were excellent, best we have ever hired, they even suggested coming back and trying a different pair each day, which have never had before in any of the 3 hire shops. We didn't but my husband did get his ski's waxed and they were ready and waiting in the morning. Not sure if we would stayed here again as it was alittle noisey what with the church bells, and the passing traffic and people coming out of the bars late in the evening or early hours of the morning and the hotel lack a bit of atmosphere. We prefer the Sonnshein or the Superior rooms in the Harfenwirt. I know this are not so close to the resort centre but at the end of the day you can go up the button lift in the centre of the village and ski striaght across and end up the oppoiste side of the road to the harfenwirt-door to door skiing!

Like some of the other recent reviewers we were very apprehensive about this hotel given the negative comments. How wrong we were. There isn't a better location to have in the village as it really is metres away from the gondola and nursery slopes. We arrived on 9th March and as we had the afternoon to get ourselves sorted, made use of the time by going to the ski shop underneath the hotel and organising our boots and skis ready for Sunday. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, particularly in the restaurant and any request dealt with promptly (ie more pillows for the beds). As a party of 7 we never went hungry and we also took advantage of the discounted meat fondue on offer on a Thursday night. There was so much that we even asked if we could return one plate of meat as it would have gone to waste. This was done with no fuss and was even deducted off our bill at the end. We had superior rooms with baths and balconies overlooking the church. I would agree that the rooms were rather hot so we had the window open every evening and if you are a light sleeper then I would ask for a room on the other side of the hotel as the church bell does chime on the hour every hour. The two children in our party made full use of the swimming pool - great for extracting the last bits of unused energy after a day on the slopes - as well as taking advantage of the free board games that the hotel has. This was perfect as it meant in the evening we didn't have to step outside of the hotel to keep them entertained. The only negative for me is about the resort in general. As a beginner there really was nothing for me after the nursery slopes as the only way off the mountain is two red runs or a black and nearby Auffach was the pretty much the same with plenty of red runs and a couple of blacks- would have been perfect if there had been a couple of long blue runs to gain my confidence. Other than that I would highly recommend this hotel !

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a superior room with bath and if you're a light sleeper get a room on the...
