“Our second visit, even better than the first”
Reviewed 6 March 2014

Me and my husband had a great 5 night break here this February. The benefits of the Staffler include excellent value for money, with delicious homecooked evening meals included in the 50 Euro per person per night cost. I can only repeat what others have said in their reviews: warm welcome from owners and staff, relaxed atmosphere. Rooms basic, but not a problem. Easy access to the gondola and lower slopes make it above average as well. Lovely sunny terrace for afternoon beers and relaxation. The all-eat-together ethos at dinner means it's easy to meet people, although the big groups can make it quite noisy. We also appreciate the easy transfers between airport and hotel. For me, the hotel would be improved by a cosier feel to the rear bar area where the TV lurks, with more comfortable bar stools in particular... and the Cave Bar is audible in the rear rooms at night, necessitating earplugs! These niggles would not prevent me returning, indeed I am planning to book next year's holiday at the Staffler as soon as I have finished this review! Thanks to Yana, Nick, Emma and all staff for a brilliant holiday.

Thanks for your thoughtful review - always appreciated. We're aware that aspects of the hotel bar need improving - as it's been rebranded O'Malley's this winter we've been overwhelmed by how popular it's been and plan a number of changes in time for next winter - watch this space as they say! We're also planning a few changes to the restaurant.

The Cave Bar is very popular and on theme nights noisy. We try to organise rooming accordingly but when we're really busy it's difficult.

We're always keen to receive feedback - good and bad. Keep it coming!

We have just returned from a a great holiday at the staffler - we were a group of 26 with age ranging from 13 months to 60+ and I have yo say the hotel and it's staff more than looked after us!

Nick and Yana were exceptional hosts and nothing could be too much trouble for them, they basically bent over backwards to ensure our stay was a good one (which it definitely was)

The food was served at 18:30 every night with everyone sitting together, this made for a really vibrant atmosphere in the dining room, the meals themselves were exceptional home cooked food, with 3 courses every evening. ( along with Nicks weather report which he never got wrong )
The breakfast was buffet style with a good choice of cereals, meats and cheese's, toast etc etc but you could order a bacon and egg barmcake for a small charge

The Staffler is a great base to explore the lovely village of Niederau it's literally a 2 minute walk to the gondola and all amenities, and boasts a lively bar of an evening with sky-sports and pool table

The Staffler is very (VERY) family friendly our 13 month old son was very looked after and there was no problem with heating his milk and food, and the rest of the kids in our party were allowed to roam freely as they pleased and just be kids!

As a few reviews have said, what it lacks in luxuries it more than makes up for in hospitality, location and standard of food
I'm looking forward to returning next year with all the gang

Thanks again Nick, Yana and all of the team!

Dave - Wendy and Jacob

Thanks for the great review Dave - your first trip I know after a number of times trying to find some high season space! Glad it was worth the wait.

We stayed at the Hotel Staffler for ten days during February 2014, as a family of four. This has to rate as one of our favourite family ski holidays, and we are very much looking forward to returning.

What the hotel lacks in unnecessary luxury furnishings, it most certainly makes up for with its quirky and vibrant atmosphere. It is a very "child-friendly" hotel offering good value accommodation. The bedrooms were clean and comfortable.

We were made to feel very welcome by all the staff, who were only too happy to assist, with nothing being too much trouble.

The breakfast was buffet style, and the evenings were a three course, home-cooked meal, which were varied and appetizing. Guests are encouraged to sit together during mealtimes, and we made some good friends during our stay.

The hotel offers an excellent ski guiding service most days, which we thoroughly enjoyed and would highly recommend.

Thanks to Nick, Yana, Lolli and all the staff at the Staffler for a great holiday!

We visited the Staffler for one week for a family birthday, there were 23 of us and the hotel couldn't do enough for us, from arranging transfers from Munich Airport to providing a wonderful and friendly service. We travelled with a 12 month old baby and the staff were fantastic with helping wash our bottles, preparing our baby milk and meals. The location of the hotel is also brilliant, just across the road from the slopes. The owners Nick and Yana are lovely and we would definitely recommend the Staffler! We were so impressed we are already looking at booking again for next year!

I've just returned from a 4 day minibreak stopping at the Staffler. It's a fantastic value for money hotel, with friendly staff, good wholesome food, excellent location and is very well organised. Yana and Nick, the owners are great hosts, and organised a perfectly troublesome free transfer to and from the hotel which meant that 3.5 days of skiing was able to be packed in. I'm already thinking of returning with my family for Christmas.
Thanks Nick, Yana and the team.
James

I don't usually give reviews, but after our recent stay at the Staffler, wanted to share our positive experience. It's not a shiny glossy hotel, but practical, warm and so friendly. All the staff take the time to talk to their guests and take a real interest in your skiing activities. Any problems with the local ski school and they will help. The evening meal is something to enjoy, simple tasty food, guests all eat at the same time and share tables, don't let this put you off.... this really adds to the atmosphere. Nick, the manager, introduces the soup, this starts the giggling and then a weather update, ski touring if available and anything else he chooses to share.

Sadly our 12 yr old son took a tumble on the last day and needed an ambulance and hospital treatment, I was devastated at the time, Nick, Yana, Plum, Emma and the rest of the staff, plus other guests were so supportive to us. Even let us keep our room for an extra night. Nothing was too much trouble.

The Staffler is so much more than a hotel. Thank you.

Thanks for the lovely review. We were really upset by Harvey's accident and hope he's much better now - and hasn't been put off skiing!

We enjoyed a great family holiday here and these guys really know how to look after you. From the delicious homemade 3 course meal every night to having plenty of hot water for our showers, I can see why most of the guests were on their 3rd or 5th visit.
Apres ski homemade cakes, friendly staff and lots of candles make the bar cosy and a zipfer beer or a glass of prosecco before dinner is lovely too.r
It's around £40 per night for dinner, bed and breakfast which really is excellent value and they sorted out our transfers to and from the airport for a small fee.
The hotel staff took us ski guiding, which took us to some lovely hidden gems including an ice bar, secret hot chocolate stops, some really beautiful ski runs followed by cosy mountain restaurants serving excellent food. The cave bar is underneath the hotel and serves great cocktails for apres ski and has live music or a good d.j every night. It opens at 9pm and the children are allowed in until 10pm for a bit of a dance and to play pool after dinner if they want, but it gets very busy after 11pm. As it is under the hotel you can't really hear it though. We are booking to go back next winter with another family.
