We have stayed here every year for the past 5 years during our skiing holiday and find it the perfect hotel. As we can stay on a B&B basis it allows us the fredom to enjoy he various places to eat in Obergurgl of which there are many. We can reccommend it to anyone looking for a quiet retreat but very close to the village centre.

We have just had a week in the Pension S'Hoamatl in Obergurgl with Inghams. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and think that overall, it is a great pension. I read the extremely critical review below before we went and looked forward to trying to put a more balanced review on here. We were not concerned, as we usually stay in a nearby hotel in Obergurgl, and I checked with the family owners who said the S'Hoamatl was good.

The location is at the north end of the resort, which we think is ideal giving access to both Hohe Mut runs (perfect for after the Nederhutte) and the Rosskarbahn (so you can then ski over to Hochgurgl). It is not ski-in ski-out, but when skiing back, you can ski to about 50m from the guesthouse. When going skiing in the morning, it's about another 25m walk to put skis on and ski the other 50m downhill to the lifts/ski school.

It is up the hill, and with a lot of snow you may need chains (seemingly dependent upon skill level!). As far as walking into town, compared to french resorts it's really no distance at all, but it is uphill - certainly didn't bother us and we walked to the Piza Belmonte at the opposite end of resort on a couple of occassions which took a maximum of 15 minutes.

THe big advantage to the location is the incredible views up the valley as it really feels like you are on your own up the hill.

Breakfast was typical of an Austrian pensions - exactly what we'd expect. Selection of cereals/mueseli, yoghurt, breads, cold meats, eggs, bacon and fruit juice. Fresh coffee, hot chocolate, tea delivered to order - we couldn't have asked for more and people should remember that it is NOT a hotel - it's an Austrian pension!

Boot/ski room is absolutely fine, with full boot drying/warming rack.

Sauna facilities are excellent for a B&B with tea and juice down there.

Rooms were perfectly adequate, quite small, but typical of a pension. The S'Hoamatl has been around for quite a while, so it is not super modern like the Schondblick next door). It was absolutely spotlessly clean and well maintained, but is more dated. The TVs in the room for example were small old TVs which could do with updating HOWEVER they did have cable/sky which included sky sports - a bonus.

Underfloor heating in the bathroom was very ice, with tons of hot water in the shower. Bathrooms were a bit dated and our shower quite small, but as I said, all spotless and perfectly adequate for a B&B.

The Hostess was very polite, friendly and helpful - gave us useful information about eating out etc.Her english was very good. In our time in pensions, we have never found the front of house to be super friendly, but I think that is because you are not paying for a full hotel service. Again you have to remember that it is a B&B! In the big hotels, of course they can afford to employ a fluent english speaking hostess to cater for your every need. In Pensions, it is typically the mother of the family, who also makes the breakfast etc.

So overall, we would recommend this pension as a good value option in a very good location.

The owners were friendly and very efficient. The hotel was spotless and quiet. Our room was a superior room and was spacious, with a large south facing balcony and was immaculate and cleaned daily. The breakfasts catered for all tastes: healthy fruit and cereals through to bacon, egg and sausage.

The wellness area was a lovely surprising bonus with foot baths, sauna, whirlpool, jet showers, complimentary towels and herbal teas - again it was spotless, quiet and relaxing.

We would definitely return and recommend friends to go.

Just come back from a week staying at this spotless B&B and had a great holiday. The hostess is welcoming but not intrusive, the breakfasts are tasty and the view from the South facing room we had, supberb.

Only down side is the walk up from the village is pretty steep so wouldn't recommend it for anyone with young children as you might end up carrying them!
