“No Marmot on menu....”
Reviewed 10 June 2008

We spent New Year 2006-2007 with the Gampers and it is extremely difficult to think of anything I could improve.

Hospitality received from Benni and Anna G who are the Owners' children was superb (Benni - I saw you working at the Elton concert in Ischgl but it was too crowded to come and say hi!).

If you like your food, then this is definitely the place for you. Every evening meal was an exquisite banquet.

The bar is very modern (in a good way), relaxing and quiet. It served as a perfect little wind down post Nederhutte prior to the evning meal.

As for the comment about the ski area being a little on the small side for a whole week, you should try getting a guide next time and really get an idea of how massive the area is (including all the off piste).

All in all, a superb family business where they clearly pride themselves in attention to business, customer service and good times!

We had 6 days skiing at Obergurgl after a week's traveling through Austria. The Gamper is well located for the skiier as it is only a short walk to the main chairlift.

The Gamper excels in service and the friendly staff did much to make us feel very welcome and special. The bar area was relaxed and not over-crowded. On those occasions when we wanted to have a sit and a drink before dinner there was always room.

The rooms are a litle on the small side which can be problematic with the amount of space that ski gear takes up. While we had an extra bed in one room there really wasn't enough room for it in a standard sized room.

The food was fabulous and one of the highlights, along with the charming service. There were always tempting choices on the menu and our three children all had plenty to chose from also.

We really enjoyred our winter wonderland experience at the Gamper.

I couldn't recommend the hotel Gamper highly enough. I stayed there for a week with my wife and three kids (10, 9, 6) and the experience was pretty-near flawless.

There was a warm welcome (and glass of champagne), comfortable rooms (we had a family suite), a nice bar (not that smoky - & I am an ex-smoker), more high-quality cuisine than you could ever consume (they also catered separately and excellently for the kids - and food allergies), a great wine list and a kids play area as well.

The Hotel has a traditional feel but has swapped the chintz for a more modern (tasteful) feel. The Gampers are text-book Austrian hosts - they sing, they dance (they even play the double-bass, the accordion and the harp!

On the ski-front, the hotel is a stones-throw from the slopes (believe me, with three kids and all their kit that makes a difference). The Hotel's ski-room is ideal - boot-warmers included. We had great snow and there was just enough variety for intermediates for a week (I don't think the resort is ideal for beginners or experts). My only quibble is that the Obergurgl/Hochgurgl ski-area is too small - after six days it all starts to become too familiar.

But would I visit the Gamper again? Oh yes!!!

Have just spent a fantastic week at the Gamper in Obergurgl.

This must be one of the best Alpine Hotels we have ever stayed in for friendliness , comfort , food and cleanliness.

The food was absolutely superb.

The Hotel staff were amongst the most charming , helpful people we have encountered anywhere.

Great position for the ski slopes.

Would agree that the smoke in the bar is a bit of a nuisance. The restaurant thankfully is non-smoking.

Have already booked our return for next year!

Superb week in a friendly 4* family run hotel. Excellent Austrian cuisine (with 3 choices of main course (1 veg)), salad bar and children's menu. Fantastic sauna complex. Large ski room and boot room and, best of all, only 50 yards from the ski-school meeting place / children's ski-school. We stayed in a large double which had a comfortable 6' bed plus additional single bed and roll-away for the children. Only draw-back was the cigarette smoke in the bar which, coming from smoke-free Scotland, was a bit off-putting at times. We will definitely return.

My wife and I both thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Gamper. What made it for us was the very friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is not large and the facilities are very good. The Steam and Sauna rooms, in a very clean and well laid out setting, were gratly appreciated after a hard days skiing! The food was varied and consistently good. Then of course there was the Neder Hutte!!!!
Oh by the way the skiing was also good!

Just caught the first snow of the season, and although the skiing was great, the hotel was excellent. The hotel Gamper is central and only 50 yards from the lifts. A warm, friendly and inviting welcome awaits you. The food is delicious and the rooms are spacious and warm. The staff are friendly and accomodating at reception, to the bar and restaurant. The wellness centre is a great way to relax after a day on the slopes and the boot room is large with plenty of seating (not always the case in many hotels!). The Nederhuette on the slopes is owned by the same family and we had an excellent lunch with table service. Saturday afternoon was a live band from 4p.m and lively Apres Ski (the slope is floodlit in the evening for skiers returning after a few bevvies!).English is spoken if desired and plenty of parking. All round enjoyable, relaxing surroundings........
