just back from our second year at this hotel and i would not consider going anywhere else! It just gets better. The food is amazing, for two weeks there was nothing i did not like. Had a lovely room 109 which has a large balcony. Great for smokers as the hotel is non smoking apart from your balcony and the sun terrace. The owners manfred and rosa are so welcoming and always ready with any advice. The head waiter Johnny is lovely as are the other two waiters. Not many inghams customers go here which i cannot understand especially as they now give the Otzal premium card free which is a huge saving. Looking forward to next year already.

Room Tip: rooms with a balcony have superb views

Our first time to Obergurgl in the summer and the Wiesental hotel made us very welcome. We had booked a room with a balcony and were given this lovely room with South-facing balcony and views of the glacier, a sitting area and large comfortable Austrian beds, and separate bathroom, loo and wardrobe a area. The hotel has a great chef, some really interesting menus and the food was really good, with friendly waiters, lovely views of the mountains and a nice bar. We went on some great walks, some with Michael the next door local mountain guide who is very knowledgeable and experienced. The hotel provides you with an Otztal premium card, which gives free access to the double lift in the village, the one up to Hoch Gurgl, all the buses in the area and even over to Morano, and to museums and swimming pools! The walking area is pretty extensive, lifts up to 7000 feet plus from the village and then long descents along glaciated valleys, walks from the parallel valley of Vent and from Solden down the valley and also some low level walks. We had mixed weather but still got out every day and had some really hot days, some cloudy and one or two wet ones. Overall a really great two week break.

Room Tip: Do ask for a south facing balcony for great views and a really lovely spacious room

A word of warning! After research and based on the good reviews we contacted this hotel to enquire re availability for our requested dates 10 months away to celebrate a special birthday. Four emails later the dates and details had been confirmed so we booked flights and sent an email to the Wiesner to request details of paying the deposit. A week later nothing so sent a further email requesting payment details. Three days later an email to say hotel had just realised the dates were on a Monday to Monday so could we change our plans! Having purchased flights this was not possible so we were left stranded.
If the hotel had said they would not have accepted a Monday booking we would not have booked the flights.
This says something about the management I feel. I would advise to book with a tour operator if you want to guarantee a booking.

As usual we returned to this particular hotel for our New Year celebrations because it feels like home away from home. The owners went out of their way to accommodate us and arranged to reserve tables at hotels in the next village because one of us in our party was not able to ski due to a sports injury prior to arriving in Obergurgl. The staff are always friendly and helpful, the hotel is spotless and clean and the accommodation spacious with fantastic views of the slopes. The birthday celebrations for my daughter on the day of departure were a wonderful surprise and the highlight of her day. This hotel is one of the best kept secrets in Obergurgl and the reason we always go back!

Room Tip: We have a suite facing the nursery slopes and the main ski run down into the village. The bedrooms...

I have been inspired to review the Wiesental because I was surprised that of all the many many guests that return year after year to this my favourite hotel, are so secretive in letting the world know about this wonderfull place. They of course as I have, not wanted to reveal their secret.
I have had the pleasure to stay with Manfred and Rosie on about 15 occasions over the last 20
years,I have made many friends with the returning guests and have always had the most memorable of stays in this stylish and friendly hotel.

To conclude I am a much traveled man and a lifetime skier [over70 trips to the alps] and the reason I rate the Wiesental so highly is that it just seems to have everything Iam looking for in a hotel.

Its small and friendly, has style, first class food, very good situation close to lifts, and the south faceing rooms are to die for,it really is a very special place to stay

due to mixed reviews recently I was a bit apprehensive about this hotel. However it was fab!!! Food was a bit unusual at times but nevertheless very good. We had a large south facing balcony room which was spotless and kept so by the maids. Owners were very welcoming, we were very late arriving (about midnight) due to flight delays but they still wanted to feed us. Nothing was too much bother for them. Manfred even opened the bar for us as we were desperate for a pint! They are backed by a great team of staff. Anna and Johnny were especially friendly and good fun. Seems to be very popular with non residents for meals so they cant be too bad. We normally stay at another four star hotel in this resort which has been closed for renovation but we are going back to the Wiesental if possible next year.

Room Tip: always pay extra for a balcony as the other rooms can be quite dark and have no outlook

Having stayed at the Wiesenthal for three consecutive years we could not recommend this Hotel more highly. In a perfect location for family skiing, particularly if kids starting out on the ski slopes (so close to BOBO - first stage of ski school) and thereafter as only a 5 minute walk to the main lift. Very central if you want to go back with children for lunch in middle of ski school. Hotel standards are extremely high for cleanliness, staff, food (exceptional breakfast buffet and dinner every evening) and friendliness of Schrieber family who run the hotel impeccably. Rooms are very well laid out for families and scored highly on quality of space, layout, linen, blackouts, balconies etc when visited by friends staying in 5* hotel up the road!! We have nothing but happy stories to tell about our three stays at the Wiesenthal and were very impressed this year with the work done in the dining room/bar. Have always booked direct, with the Schreiber's being incredibly efficient and accommodating to requests for information and helping us book other elements of the holiday e.g ski school, taxi transfers from airport etc. A wonderful family hotel in a fantastic resort. Ski hire immediately opposite so couldn't be easier for pick up and drop off. For 3 years in a row we have left having had a thoroughly enjoyable and comfortable stay and a very happy family holiday in a relaxed, efficient, well run and friendly hotel.

Room Tip: Difficult as all the family rooms we have stayed in have been extremely comfortable, well laid out a...
