Good value for money; friendly staff and spacious room. "'Erlebnisbad" means, Finnish sauna, whirlpool, Roman hot bath and herbal bath.

For a 4 star expensive hotel, we found this Hotel a horrible experience. We felt it was regimented, food was poor (example Gala night main course was Pork, served rare !!) There is no hospitality from the hotel management, we were treated like an inconvenience right from the start. We arrived late through no fault of our own and was told we could only have a main course (we should have had a four course meal) despite the restaurant still serving! We were then asked if we would like a coffee - thinking this might be in place of a more substantial meal, we accepted only to find we were charged for it!. None of our group had any of the rooms advertised on their website and all ended up with very small rooms. We had an afternoon transfer on the day of our return, so decided to ski in the morning to be told we could get changed in the boot room, even though the hotel has a spa facility. Definitely not four star treatment from this hotel – if you are going to Obergurgl try the Gamper, one of our party was lodged there and had the sort of treatment you should expect from a 4 star hotel.

This is the first time we've stayed at the Wiesental on a ski holiday having stayed at the nearby Martinshof last year. Although the Wiesental is a much pricier 4 star the quality of accommodation is very similar and I suspect that throughout Obergurgl you find that all accommodation is of a very high standard, They offer generally good cuisine, a good range of drinks at the bar and an extensive lunch menu for weary skiers. This is a nice hotel with a price tag to match if you're staying in height of season, but we stay there with friends who have travelled to Obergurgl many times for skiing and rate this hotel highly for a very long time. The management are quite pleasant and their kinds run around all day long, giving it a nice family feel. Our room had no balcony and looked out over a side street which was just a little overlooked by the next door property. Ask for a balcony room and a stunning view if you get the chance, our friends stayed at the same room rate and had a much nicer view and outdoor terrace

Would we go back? Probably, although value for money means you can probably get a better room rate at another hotel of good quality in this generally advance-booked resort during the peak ski season

Sadly an experience where the management put their needs before their clients. Having booked two double rooms, two of our party dropped out, despite offering to pay the full rate for the rooms we were forced to share one room which was deeply unsatisfactory. When asked for an explanation were told that they could fill the other double room and improve the bar takings. And still got charged for a night that the room remained unoccupied. Nice. Also very reluctant to provide ordinary tap water to guests in the restaurant, preferring to sell expensive bottled water despite having us having ordered wine. Result; lost long standing clients for a few bob. Sad.

This isn't my first visit to the Hotel Wiesental in Obergurgl and will not be my last. Over the past couple of years major changes have been made to the hotel and rooms but have not affected the ambience or character of the place that I remember from my last visit 6 years ago. Then it was a 3 star hotel, but should have been 4 stars. Now it has been awarded its deserved 4 star rating. The room prices are excellent value during the summer where half board is offered.

The hotel is situated in what has to be the most picturesque location in the village, with the views from the restaurant and cafe/terrace looking onto the Hohe Mut and Hangerer mountains with the glacial backdrop of the Gurgl Ferner glacier in the distance. Its also away from the main street so its very quite at night. Several of the rooms also look onto this scene.

When you've had a hard days walking in the surrounding mountains then its a great place to go to for lunch or a meal or something to drink as the prices are excellent value for money.

The accomodation, service and quality of food was of the highest order, and Manfred and Rosie Schieber along with their excellent friendly staff did everything they could to make our holiday a memorable and enjoyable one. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they would bend over backwards to help.

The village of Obergurgl is at 1930 metres and is therefore suitable for people with allergies such as hayfever as there is no pollen. I spoke to several people who have been visiting Obergurgl for many years because of the fresh clean mountain air as they said that it helped their breathing.

Whether your going to Obergurgl for a relaxing holiday or a walking holiday then I would say that the Hotel Wiesental is up their with the best in Austria, so give it a try.

Hotel Wiesental is everything you could ever want in a hotel...

We stayed one night in July, as my husband was cycling through the Alps from Germany to Bolzano, Italy.

The room was huge, as they upgraded us when we arrived. We had told them of our biking trip, and so they thought we would need more room for all our stuff. They also had a place already set out to store my husbands bike, in their basement. Awesome!

The room was clean, very nice and updated (as the wing we were in was built only a couple years ago) and could sleep 4 (with the pull out couch). Summer is the 'off season', since Obergurgl is a ski town, so our room rate with halfboard (breakfast and dinner) seemed like a steal at 82 euros (66 euros if you choose just the bed and breakfast option).

The owners greet you by name, and help you with your bags to your room. They are willing to make any reservations for you or to give you the run down on the area. They have a huge deck we headed directly to, for a beer in the sun. The hotel is on the edge of all the others, so you are right next to the mountain and your view of the peaks is perfect.

Food at the restaurant was great for dinner, and certainly filling with 3 courses! They had vegetarian options, which we were so thankful for. Germany and Austria tend to be a meat and potatoes type crowd. Breakfast was simple, but you had a lot of options- bread, cereal, yogurt, fruit, cheese, etc.

Other pluses: There's an elevator, parking is also free and right behind the hotel, they have a solarium (which includes a hot tub, sauna and tanning beds), they have a separate bar next to the restaurant area, there's a non-smoking section to the restaurant and the rooms have A/C.

All in all, one of the best hotels we've stayed at in europe! For the friendly staff, clean and spacious room, room rate and natural beauty, we think it was 5 stars! We will definitely be returning for some skiing this winter, but also a rock climbing and hiking weekend next summer! Obergurgl is not just for winter! Enjoy.
