We stayed at the Alpenblume in the second week of Jan for our family ski holiday. Like everyone else in the chalet we were travelling with Esprit ski who cater specifically for families. We had a really fantastic week, and once again could not fault the Esprit ski staff or the childcare. Both children were fantastically looked after (one in nursery, one in ski school and snow-club) by really nice, enthusiastic and caring staff.
The Alpenblume itself is ideally positioned for people in ski school as the meeting point is about 100m away across the road, as is the children's ski area. There is also a small play park here which was used by the nursery staff.
The main lifts are a short bus ride away, but no problem as the bus stop is literally outside the chalet.
The food was good -well presented and a good variety, with vegetarians well-catered for. As is Esprit's policy the kids eat their tea earlier meaning a relaxed adult-only dinner.
We stayed in suite 18 which was a very good size -two seperate bedrooms leading off of a large hallway with lots of storage. There was also a small kitchenette which was useful. The bedrooms and bathroom were basic but comfortable and kept very clean. The chalet could probably do with a bit of a face-lift internally, but for skiing accommodation I thought it was perfectly adequate.
In summary, if you are looking for somewhere to stay for a really enjoyable family ski holiday then this place ticks all the boxes. If it is luxury you are after then this is probably not the place for you.

Great place !
Great staff
Good food
but far to far from the slope for me!! but that is me!!! Obergurgl just suffers from a lack of infrastructure at the bottom, But at the top it really is top class skiing!!!! and the Tuesday night show and night skiing is worth going for!! as for the Neadahut again worth the trip for!!!
Enjoy

We (couple with 2 year old) stayed at the Alpenblume over Christmas. The Chalet is run by Ski Esprit a UK based company and all the staff are British. The first thing to say is that all the Staff without exeption were first class and worked very hard. The building itself is in quite a good position just over the road from the nearest lift and with the added bonus of a ski bus stop right outside. The village centre of Obergurgl is about 10 mins walk away. The Chalet houes the Esprit Nusery on the ground floor so If you do have young children that will be using the Nursery this is i good place to stay. The downside is that the property could do with a makeover. The rooms are looking very dated and the bathrooms are a bit grim with brown tiles and basic fittings. We have previously stayed at a chalet Christopurus over the road run my the sister company Ski Total and the difference was striking. If you can get a good deal on the price I would give this place a go but dont expect luxurious accomodation.

We stayed in the Alpenblume for the first week of February, two dads and three daughters for who it was their first ski holiday. The hotel is run and staffed exclusively by EspritSki, so all English speaking. The staff are pretty young but work tirelessly all day and I'm sure they get little reward other than a season in the Alps!

The hotel is billed as a chalet, but chalet hotel might be a fairer description. I herd it described as a hostel but that is unfair. It is not where you'd go for a luxurious trip, but it is perfectly fine for family groups with young children. The rooms are clean, the water hot and the food varied from day to day - quantities not huge but quality fine - and the children are all fed separately at 5.30pm.

It seemed that everyone during our week had got a last minute deal on this hotel saving a huge amount of money on the full price. If you had paid the full amount for this place you'd have been disappointed, but at the discounted rate it represented very good value for money.

The children are taken care of in the Snow Club for as little or much time as you require (and book). They are collected for ski school at 9.15, picked up from ski school, given lunch and then either entertained or skied with in the afternoon. We picked ours up after lunch, giving us from 9.30 till 2pm to ski, then spent the afternoon messing about (for the first two days) and then skiing in the afternoon. The children all had a fabulous time in the Snow Club, learning songs and games and generally having fun. They still sing the songs!

In the evenings, the children are not allowed in the dining room, but they enjoyed hanging round the small TV/games room playing Nintendo DS with all the others until they went to bed. The baby listening service is fabulous, allowing you to relax and enjoy the evening. You are not meant to leave the hotel for obvious reasons (but there is a good bar immediately opposite and you'll get a call on your mobile if there's a problem and they can't find you - just tell them you were having a smoke!)

The location is excellent which is half the challenge in finding a good hotel. The ski hire shop is 50 yrds away (get there early on the first day as it's absolute chaos), the nursery slopes are 200yrds, there are gondolas 5 and ten minutes walk but the bus stop is right outside which will take you both directions. That's the quickest way to Hochgurgl too.

Obergurgl is a lovely small Austrian village. Not a huge amount going on in terms of raucous apres ski, but if you're looking at this hotel you're probably with children so not looking for that anyway. Lots of walks and trails for non-skiers. One consideration is that there is not much to do in Obergurgl if the weather is bad - there's no swimming pool open to the public, no horse drawn sleigh rides, etc, but there is bowling and skating.

In all, we had a fabulous week. The staff were helpful and fun and made it possible for two useless fathers to cope with three children for the week - and we all came back having had a great time. But don't go there expecting luxury!
