The Sportiv is a cosy and authentic Austrian hotel, with on average clean, but small rooms. Because of its connection with the nabouring 4star hotel "The Crystal" guests can make use of all the 4star facilities. Superb wellness area and Spa services. So you pay a 3star rate and get a 4star environment. The ski and bootlocker space are worth mentioning. Never seen anything like it.
The main skilift is 25 mtrs from the ski-depot door.

Room Tip: If you want mountainview, ask for a room on the skilift Side, to avoid getting a view of the courtya...

This hotel is in the right position for easy access to the slopes. The rooms are pretty dated but very clean. Seems like they are not spendig the money on the Sportiv as the maintenance was a little poor. The staff were good. No bar facilities in the day not even for a coffee. The food in the evening was very minimal and poor selection, However you can always fill up in the Apres Ski in the Crystal which is what most people do. the Spa facilities were amazing plenty of areas to relax after a good ski. The hotel and the showers were always warm. The communial areas were excellent. this is more of a family and middle aged persons hotel. Very adult!!!

Room Tip: Make sure you eat in the apres ski in the Crystalk before you have dinner. The food was good but po...

Traditional hotel good food friendly staff with great access to the lovely crystal hotel BUT I had to complain on 5 occasions about the lack of hot water for showering after a long day skiing!
Sort it out Sportif!!

2nd time staying here. A 3 star sharing the facilities of the 5 star next door. This is the friendlier and more down to earth side with the same facilities as the crystal for a much lesser price. Good food and service(denise) .. Rooms basic and clean.. Fantastic boot room and spa... Nederhutte best apresski in the world of skiing!!!! If you are in your 20s or a boarder this is not for you! However if you are 35+ and enjoy great company of many nationalities this is the place. We didnt feel the need to go out at night... Met french german italiens brits... And what a ball we had curled up beside the open fire in the bar every night!.. Our skiing has progressed in that theres not really enough skiing for us here anymore.. But will we be back? Yes cos sometimes the overall ambience of the ski resort beats the skiing. Just book it you will not regret it

Although more traditional (but cheaper) than its other half the Chrystal, it proved very comfortable with large rooms (we had 42) good functional bathrooms (but please get rid of the shower curtains along baths and install screens!). The breakfast was excellent with fresh fruit salad plus yoghurts etc and always a cooked option of bacon, scrambled or boiled egg and baked beans. Good rolls/jams and ok coffee. As others have said you choose at breakfast your main course for dinner (meat/fish or vegy), and help yourself to salad and soup. Failing everything they will do a schnizel and chips!
The free afternoon tea over at the Chrystal was also appreciated - cooked savoury options as well as sweet things. You do have to pay (quite a lot) for the actual tea to drink though.
As there is no-one on reception most of the week we hung onto our keys, but took off the room tag. There was a safe box in the cup'd with the fridge.
The boot room (shared with the Chrystal) was just amazing - heated boot racks with hot air blowers over, individual ski racks with retaining clips, and plenty of room to put on boots. Then just a short walk through the ski shop,up one flight of stairs and you are at the gate of the bubble lift! Equally easy coming home, but you need to be ok with the red run 3 which might be a problem for beginners.
The spa facility (free to Sportiv guests) was equally impressive. Good swimming pool, small indoor/outdoor jacuzzi type pool, adults relaxation pool. In these you wear normal swim gear, no rule about hats. You can also use the steam room/sauna for those wishing to remain 'textiled' (ie kit on). The most provision is in the non-textiled (ie naked) section, where there are two saunas (one large, glass sided with access to outside snow for those keen to roll in it!) and several steam rooms. The shy ones can preserve modesty with a towel.
The weather for our trip was somewhat rugged - very cold, frequent snow and flat light. We had a couple of clear days, one over at Solden using the 10 euro one-day extension to the lift pass (must buy at the start). Overall the area is quite limited compared to big French resorts, but very well served by modern lifts with minimal queing. Less boy racers and boarders than average.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking car park, lift station also have nice view of mountains beyond, tend to be lar...

Stayed here as a couple in February 2013. I completely endorse the previous review - my full review would be almost identical!
So here's a few specifics:
We had room 29 which was a good big room (it has a sofa-bed so is actually for four people). Being on the corner, it also has the benefit of windows on two sides, one overlooking the gondola base-station and the other looking up the red piste - we could lie in bed in the morning and check out the indicator board showing which runs/lifts are open or closed!
If it's important to you, there is free WiFi in the bar area of the Sportiv, although we found the WiFi in the Crystal bar a bit more reliable and faster.
The afternoon tea in the Crystal Hotel was nice, but note that only the cakes and snacks are free. You have to pay for drinks - a pot of tea for one is a princely €4.50!
On that note, you can charge drinks to your room and settle up at the end of the week. 125ml of wine costs between €3.50 and €5.50, a small beer is €3.50 and a large Weissbier - €5.50, so it's easy to spend more than you anticipate - as we did!
As for the food, the main courses were really tasty and well-presented. Like the previous reviewer, we never left dinner hungry although some may find the main course portions a little small - I noticed another group had supplemented their dinner with plates of chips (!)
The weather during the week was varied so having access to the spa was a bonus. The ski/boot room was fantastic and the staff were all really friendly.
We really enjoyed the week - the traditional, comfortable Sportiv blended with the more upmarket facilities available at the Crystal. I would have no hesitation in returning to this hotel if we go to Obergurgl again.
My skiing tip: the ski-bus stop and the gondola station are right outside the hotel - if you're going to ski in Hochgurgl, you can get there much faster by taking the bus rather than the gondola.

We stayed in the Hotel Sportiv in January 2013. The hotel has an excellent position next to the Festkogl gondola at the start of the resort as you drive in and benefits from being at the end of a red run.
The meals were excellent. Breakfast was a buffet with a selection of cereals, porridge, fruit, meats & cheeses and also bacon, scrambled/boiled eggs and beans to finish with. The options remained constant throughout the week but it was always hot and good quality. Evening meals were a set option that you picked at breakfast time. These consisted of a daily soup, a salad course, a different main dish (with vegetarian option) and desert. The main courses were delicious, others on here have commented on the portion size but I never left the restaurant feeling hungry once, when all the courses had been finished.
The bedrooms at the Sportiv could benefit from an update but the beds were very comfortable with good clean linen. A few mod cons wouldn't go a miss though - if you're looking for the safe, it's in the mini-bar! Our private bathroom had recently been refurbished and was a shower cubicle rather than a bath that some other rooms still had.
All the staff that we met were helpful, very polite and nothing was a hassle for them.
The reception isn't manned in the hotel but it is apparently from the sister hotel across the road (The Crystal) which is just a telephone call away.
The main benefit of the hotel is being able to use the spa facilities of the adjoining Crystal Hotel. This was the main reason that we chose the hotel and we were not disappointed. Robes and slippers are supplied. There are three pools, indoor, outdoor and relaxation, several saunas, many showers and other rooms to keep you busy. There is a large quiet room with open fire surrounded by beds/loungers. Tea, water & fruit is supplied. There is a fondness for nudity by some of the guests in the adult sections of the spa, but as long as you're prepared for this, it wont be a surprise!
There is also the benefit of taking afternoon tea (cakes and sandwiches included) in The Crystal Hotel between 3pm & 5pm which is free to Sportiv residents.
There is a large heated boot room which has access to the neighbouring ski rental shop - which couldn't be more handy.
All in all, this is a good traditional hotel with benefits of being joined to the more luxury Crystal Hotel. Would I go back? ... yes.

Room Tip: Better room views on the gondola side.
