After reading the only review on here a week before we travelled, I felt like cancelling. In reality the hotel is fine. It is above a nightclub, but if you can, ask for a room at the front of the hotel (facing towards the main street) as it's much quieter here. The club is worst at the weekends, which tends to be when most people arrive for a ski trip so your first impression of the noise is likely to be worse than the reality for the rest of the week. We didn't notice it too much after the first couple of nights - infact the constant donging of the church bells form the 3 churches in the village every 15 minuites from 6am were far more of a nuisance than the nightclub!!

The hotel is a bit dated, but it's clean and warm and serves a good breakfast and dinner - what more do you need on a ski holiday? Staff were sweet and friendly, and for a cheap break in Solden where the skiing is great I would recommend it.

this is a lovely hotel with friendly, helpful staff. the rooms are comfortable + immaculate. the food is traditionally Austrian + very good. the only problem is the nightclub mentioned by other reviewers. this is situated underneath the hotel + the music is very loud. BUT from what i understand, the nightclub is leased from the hotel owners who i think may also be fed up with the noise. so that problem may eventually be solved! then it will be perfect!

we had a great stay over new years.
The hotel very much seems family run and they put a lot of effiort into the new years gala dinner, with live bands and fireworks. most people were in smart evening dress, which made it seem special.

We stayed in a 'family room' (travel agent description). this was an austrian twin with a sofa bed. it was a nice spacious room with a balcony and another window and bath.

Food was very good - 3 choices each night.
since others mentioned it, i noticed that there was a childrens choice each night also. Drinks may be a bit expensive, but i dont think anywhere different than anywhere else in the resort- the euro is very strong now.

the location is excellent for skiing, you can ski alnost direct to/from the boot room, although you have to get over a small snow bank each day. you can ski down to the main lifts from down thehere. As regards walking up/down the hill, I cant imagine this would cause any concern to anyone fit enough to ski, its only a few hundred yards and you can go through the walkway which has steps instead. We did not need to do this walk with skis or boots, as we rented from Lohmans at the bottom of hill , on recommendation from hotel and they have a minibus and bring you and your equipment back up the hill. On the last day you leave them in the hotel for collection.

The only small criticism id that there did not seem to be enough boot pegs for everyone in the boot room.

overall a great stay and would go back.

As I used trip advisor to find this hotel I should add to it. I stayed 5 days in this family hotel. www.alpenland.com.

This hotel was excellent in every single was from food, room, staff, heat, convenience, hospitality. If you can find a problem with the hotel I would be very surprised. Included in the stay is a five course meal, every dish every evening was superb. They will assist will getting ski equipment, taxis transfers anything you need.

You can ski from and to the hotel, there is a boot room for your equipment (which will be delivered and picked up) and there is a sauna etc. which is necessary. Why pick this hotel and location - snow in early season, location easy to get around not huge crowds at this time and no delay at lifts.

The hotel also have connection with the ski school which were most helpful, attentive supportive and excellent in their service provision [--]

The only slightly negative thing was the hill up to the hotel, especially after skiing or drink, but thats all. We also used the hotel josl bar (contemporary) and CU bar (busy and small) , also smoking allowed everywhere (not so much in the hotel)

I have stayed 50 nights in hotels this year between work and holidays. This was the only one I unpacked the suitcase and moved in. Please note the hotel has standards if thats what you like and should be respected. You wont need to eat elsewhere for breakfast or dinner. Great pizza place about 7 mins walk away for lunch or on the mountain.

Get the shuttle from airport approx 40 euro on way the web site is [--]

The area is picture postcard with mountains and snow etc. In addition a travel colleague needed medical attention and the standard delivered was first class, to the point of x-rays given on CD for the home doctor.

I am a beginner (no longer) skier and while the slopes and lessons for busy and not without the usual leg pains the standards with everything across the board for such a trip were literally first class and I could not find fault with anything. Unbelievable review I know but actually true.

The Alpenland is a really lovely '4-star' hotel in the pictureseque ski resort of Obergurgl in the southern Tyrol.

The hotel is family-run and in a fairly food location within the actual village of Obergurgl. You can ski from the back of the hotel (the piste is 10m from the back door) down to the village, gondola and chair lift and back again in the evening, which minimises traipsing around in uncomfortable ski boots. If you are walking to the hub of the village it is about 5 minutes, but be warned, at this altitude the walk back can be very tiring and if you are carrying skis etc, it is actually exhasting (you are better off staying at te Edelweiss which is at the heart of everything, if you want to avoid additional excercise).

The hotel has a rustic feel. The rooms are very comforatble spacious and well equipped. The staff are very friendly and efficient. Many of the staff mult-task, i.e. the breakfast waiter was also the masseur - a bit disconcerting!

The food is excellent, with a 5-course menu each evening, with crisp linens and smart waiters. One night we had a 7-course dinner, which was excellent, but it was not child friendly and there was no choice for them.

The only complaint is the cost of drinks. Local wines were quite reasonable (and good) but the hotel refuses point blank to serve jugged tap water at dinner (which they will serve at breakfast), so that they can sell you bottled water at £4 per bottle - which for 6 of us was £12 per night, just on water, which is a rip-off. Other hotels, i.e. the Edelweiss offer tap water for free.

Two rounds of soft drinks, and a half litre of local wine and mineral water with dinner cost us £63!!

Apart from that gripe, really, this is a very nice and frinedly hotel, but be warned regarding drinks.

I stayed at the Alpenland with my family (wife and 3 children aged 10, 8 and 5) for a week this December and can thoroughly recommend the hotel.

We chose Obergurgl as it was early in the season and we wanted to be sure to have snow - in this we were not disappointed and we had a great weeks skiing with largely clear skies and 2 falls of fresh snow.

Obergurgl as a town is quite small, but has plenty of dining options and a small supermarket. The ski school is great and our children had both group and private lessons. There are a good selection of runs for the average skier (like me) and fast lifts and gondolas with no waiting time. It is an easy 3 1/2 hour drive from Munich (we drove).

The Alpenland is a small family-run hotel close to the centre of town. It is slightly up the slope and next to a connecting run, such that you can walk 20 metres from the ski-room to to the traverse and ski down to the main lift. It is possible to ski back to the hotel also proving the snow is ok (which it was for us). This assumes you stay at the main hotel which we did.

Initially I wanted to stay in the hotel apartment and self-cater, but one was not available for the first 2 nights, so we took a family room on half board. We arrived expecting a suite with a fold-out in the living room, but the family room turned out to be a very large suite of rooms, including a main bedroom attached to the small living room, a separate double (king) bedroom, another small kids room with 2 single beds under the eaves (we were on the top floor - room 303) and a large bathroom with twin sinks, a (strong) shower and a large spa bath - all connected by corridors. There was plenty of wardrobe space though no drying room. The living room opened onto a large balcony overlooking the town and home-run slope - just magical.

We liked the family room so much, we chose to stay there for the duration of our stay despite the extra cost for the h/b. The room heating was perfect but the only English-speaking channel on the tv was CNN - which only bothered the children (we had movie computers and books for them though so not a big deal). There is no mini-bar or even fridge in the room, but we brought our own beer and wine and put it on the sill outside the bedroom window (opened onto the hotel roof) and the snow kept them nicely chilled!

The breakfast was excellent with both a comprehensive Continental selection and also scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages etc. We looked forward to our evening meal every day as there was always an interesting choice (ordered in the morning) and cooked to perfection. There is no formal children's menu, but the kitchen staff were able to fix chicken nuggets, fries, spaghetti bolognaise, ice ceam etc for them which kept the younger two happy. Wine and beers were expensive, but this is Europe.

The hotel has a restaurant, bar with open fire, second sports bar (with skiing on tv needless to say). In the cellar there is a ski storage room with boot drying racks, bar with pool table, small bowling alley, kids play room (check to new website - the children playing in the room our mine!) and spa area with sauna, steam room, sun-beds, plunge pools and massage room (see website) - we didn't use the spa but it looks very nice. There is a parking area behind the hotel which is not covered (I would recommend bringing chains if you do not have a 4wd - I needed them one day to get up the hill to the hotel).

Finally, the staff are all very helpful and friendly and for the most part speak excellent English (my German is not great). The children were very welcome. Be aware that the reception desk closes at 10pm so make arrangements if you are arriving after this time and you can check out early if leaving after 10pm (as we did at 3am to catch our flight from Munich).

I can recommend this hotel and especially the family room and h/b without hesitation and am happy to answer any direct enquiries about the hotel.

Stayed at the Alpenland over Christmas break. The staff were friendly and attentive and the food was excellent with a range of choices for dinner. Rooms weren't huge but extremely clean (as seems to be normal in Austria) The bowling alley and pool table etc were a hit with our teenagers as it gave them something else to do after dinner. The only downside was that the hotel is at the top of a hill which meant that there was a little walk required to ski school etc however I understand that if you book your ski hire from Scheiber (in the village right next to ski school) you can leave boots and skis there at night which sounds much more convenient.
Unfortunately snow wasn't brilliant, although we had a lot more than many other resorts due to high altitude and excellent snow making.
Already booking to go again next year!
