“Fantastic hotel - loved it”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

We travelled to the Alpina for the second time this year. I can thoroughly recommend the hotel - the skiing is very well organised, food is delicious, varied and plentiful and the hotel owners go the extra mile to make everyone's holiday special. The effort that was put in to the New Years's Eve party was outstanding resulting in a lovely evening for all.

This was our 2nd visit Obergurgl having previously stayed at the Edelweiss and Gurgl, however now having a toddler, we perceived The Alpina as being more child friendly. The hotel itself was excellent, with a good quality room (if a little warm), first class service, fantastic spa/swimming pool area and high quality food. To be picky the hotel advertises itself as ski in/ski out, unfortunately unless your Franz Klammer or it's very icy it's almost impossible to ski to the hotel as the slope is flat, then uphill. The other disappointment was lack of babysitting facitilies. They have baby listening, but post Madeline McCann, naturally we didn't want to leave our toddler in the room on his own, thus we either ate in shifts or on a few occasions managed to persuade a receptionist to baby sit for an hour (at €30), although she was very good and quickly formed a bond with our toddler.

Great sized room with plenty of wardrobe and drawers and importantly on a winter sports holiday room for hanging all the gear when you are back from the slopes. Food is consistently great, attentive wait staff. Nico was very helpful with his wine knowledge! Loved the room assigned boot room warming racks idea as you were assured of space for your boots. First visit to this hotel although a regular to Obergurgl. Definitely worth revisiting this hotel!

Room Tip: We had a deluxe suite which was very spacious, I would ask for one at the front of the hotel as the...

We couldn't fault the Alpina Hotel. The staff were fantastic, the location was great. The food was brilliant. The facilities were used and loved by all.
The room was a great size for our family of four, as we had a suite that gave us the privacy and space that we like on holiday.
The swimming pool spa was a welcome relief at the end of a hard days skiing.
The kids rooms were good for teh kids to escape to so they could meet up with and play with new friends.
Food and drink were excellent and the staff all very attentive.

Had my first visit to Obergurgl this year and The Alpina Deluxe had been recommended to us and we weren't disappointed. We have visited an extensive variety of hotels in the past couple of years but this hotel had the perfect combination of luxury and first class service with a personal feel about it. We stayed in a suite with a south facing balcony (this was an extra request) which was fantastic - plenty of space, two separate fold down beds and a huge amount of storage. The bathroom was large with a separate wc. If I had to nit pick about the room the pillows were pretty flimsy and the hair dryer was fixed in the bathroom so I ended up buying a cheap one as with two daughters with long hair no-one else would of got in! Also there is no kettle. The food is exceptional and there is a children's menu if they don't like any of the set menu dishes. Don't go to diet with a five course menu each evening. There is an old fashioned feel to the restaurant as you keep your table for the week and they cork your wine at night and have it ready the next evening for you - it's been a long time since I've had that done for me. The spa is lovely but looked pretty busy at times. The boot room has plenty of space with heated boot storage. I personally wouldn't describe the hotel as ski in ski out - yes, you can keep your skis on and there's no need to take a bus but there is a bit of poling involved. I found the staff to be exceptionally helpful and friendly plus their English was excellent. The hotel location is quiet, situated at the top of a hill but there is a free shuttle at certain times of the day. All in all it was a delight staying here and can't recommend it highly enough.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a south facing suite

This is our fifth year back at this hotel, so there is little more that needs to be said as to what we think of both the hotel and the staff. Ivana is a legend in the Dining Area and food, as usual is amazing. For those that have never been before the Gala dinner on the Wednesday and the Dessert night on the Friday are unbelievable. The Wi-Fi seems to have been upgraded as we had no problems connecting in our bedroom, where last year it was mainly in the public areas you could get a good connection. What we like about this hotel is that the majority of Staff have remained the same, so they know you as much as you know them. We have already booked for 2015. Ski-out is not a problem but Ski-in can be a bit of a challenge but I think that is more to do with the Ski-in (Blue 5) seems to have been slightly altered this year with a bit more of an uphill gradient to it.

Room Tip: Pay the extra and go for a Cat 'E' or above room

We booked via Neilson after reviewing hotel on tripadviser. In all respects we were delighted with the hotel. Our room, a deluxe suite was huge, the lobby alone was bigger than some rooms we have stayed in. All staff were polite and took time to say hello, even the cleaners and behind the scenes staff we bumped into. Dinner each evening was six courses, fantastic salad bar, especially for me being somewhat of a salad avoider! We were delighted to be looked after each evening by Ivana whose efficiency was amazing. Public rooms were large and smokers had their own separate lounge, although I didn't see anyone actually use it. So unlike some other hotels we did not suffer from smoke at dinner or afterwards. The spa was huge and superb, both the textile and non-textile areas. we loved trying all the different saunas, steam rooms etc.
Although 'ski in ski out' you do have a small bit of polling to gain the ski room entrance, schuss without turning from the nederhutte to avoid this! One of the best holidays we have had as a couple. We plan to return.

Room Tip: Aim for the main hotel and not the annex. Most rooms are over 45 sq meters, ours was 55 and huge. Tr...
