Very friendly and exceptionally helpful staff.
Perfectly situated for walks and close to cable cars.
The food was excellent and varied.
Inclusion of the Otztal Premium card is a big bonus if you use the cable cars and buses.
Unlimited walking opportunities in the area.
Our only regret was that we were only there for one week.

I have rated this 3 stars but don't let this put you off. If you want Austrian charm and cuteness this is not the hotel for you, or if you are a couple again I think there are better choices in Obergurgl. However for a family looking for a good value holiday, it is a perfect choice. The family room are a good size and it was really useful having an additional storage room too.
The food is average, some days was good others was not so. However there was always a good salad bar. The free wine and beer is a bonus but do not expect high quality! And the kids loved having fizzy drinks on tap. The cakes at tea time were delicious.
Service was excellent and you could tell the staff enjoyed their job.
The sauna and steam room was great too, it was always kept really clean and it was a good size. Wonderful after a days skiing.
When I looked at the photos of the hotel before I went I was a bit worried but it is much better in the flesh.
The only big negative is that the women looking after the creche did not speak ANY english so we only used the hotel once for picking up the kids as they did not like it. Plus simply for safety they needed someone who spoke english.
Overall, we had a great time in Obergurgl and will go back to the resort but probably not this hotel.

We travelled to Obergurgl following a recommendation by a friend. We weren't disappointed. I could book the hotel we had wanted but the Lohmann also fitted our requirements. It's a fantastic resort with wonderful skiing for all levels. We didn't have to wait for any of the ski lifts.

The hotel staff were excellent and very friendly. Our room, which had to accommodate a family of four, was huge and had extra storage space across the hall which was great for keeping the cases in. The hotel was very warm and cosy and offered a wide variety of food for every meal. I'm a bit of a picky eater but always came away feeling very well fed. It's ideally situated right in the middle of the resort and is only five minutes walk away from both ski schools. I would recommend both Obergurgl and the Lohmann to any family wanted to have a great skiing holiday. But please don't tell too many people!

This is a lovely hotel, the rooms are extremely spacious and the food excellent with a good choice every night. Having the ski hire shop next door is a huge plus and it is only a short walk to the Gondola. The staff are very pleasant and the receptionist very helpful and accommodating. We love Obergurgl and will definitely return to this hotel next time we visit. My only complaint is that we were given welcome drinks vouchers on arrival to exchange at the C U Bar next door but they wouldn't accept them and we never got our free drink. Other than that we had a great time.

A group of 22 of us stayed in the Lohman w/c 6 April 2013 We all had a fantastic time. The hotels location is approx 50 metres from the slopes and it is possible to ski back to within this distance ( snow allowing ). The food was lovely and plenty of it . All the staff are fantastic and very helpful a special thanks to Zane who put up with us !!!. The hotel is not a traditional Austrian Hotel with all the trimmings ie flowers decorations & nik naks which a lot of people will be used to but dont let this put you off its as youre there to ski !! not admire ornaments . Great Value for money and the free wine & beer at dinner was a great bonus

We stayed as a family of four in the Lohmann and had a Schneerose room which was so spacious. The Wellness Suite was lovely and definitely a real bonus after a day on the slopes. Excellent location within a very short walk of the Ski School and lifts and you can ski back very close to the hotel. Breakfast was good with a choice of cooked breakfasts in addition to cereals, fruit, yoghurt, toast etc. Afternoon tea was nice with cake and coffee served but the lounge and bar area are very small. It is a shame as the hotel shop and ski shop are on three floors and so spacious, yet the bar area is tiny and so does not encourage you to go there for a drink and can be difficult to get a table in the lounge after dinner if you want to relax. However there is the CU Bar next door (owned by the hotel) and we had an Apres Ski drink there one day when it was still glorious sunshine. Dinner was buffet style - good choice of soups but limited salad bar range - very repetitive and not a great variety of evening meals - could have done with a few more casseroles. Our main criticism of the hotel is there is only one lift on one side of the hotel and we had to carry suitcases up and down 3 flights of stairs - not what you would expect of a four star hotel.. Also when we arrived - having driven all the way out from England - we had to find the garage ourselves and then our room - no offer of help. Reception could have been much better. Ski shop helpful but watch out for the level of ski hire that they automatically give you.

We stayed as a family of four in the Lohmann in February this year. We were wondering what it was going to be like and were a little apprehensive...mainly because it was so reasonably priced.

We needn't have worried. The hotel itself, whilst not luxurious, was comfortable, friendly and served good food. We booked a family suite which turned out to be huge - literally a big improvement on the tiny room, (suite - in theory), that we had last year at a different hotel. There was even a good sized empty room across the corridor that we could use for storage, although we didn't need it. The beds were relatively hard which were fine for us, but others that weren't happy with this were supplied with a mattress topper to soften the experience. The hotel were also happy to supply non-feather pillows and duvets upon request, so they really were helpful.

The meals at the Lohmann were really good. There wasn't generally a vast choice and it's not fine dining, but there was always something for everyone. The meals are buffet-style and the chefs are on hand to help out and to cook pancakes, fried eggs etc for breakfast and also to carve in the evening. The soups were usually really nice. Perhaps a little more choice in the salad would have been good and definitely a bit of cake or something for dessert as this was usually limited to ice cream or a very simple mousse-type dish. That said, we all ate really well and it was quite refreshing not to have a "kids" buffet where they just have the staples of chips, fish fingers etc! The free wine and beer with the meal was a total bonus and they were all fairly nice - can't complain at all!

The bar area is very small and could get a little busy later on in the afternoon when they serve free coffee and cake. Still, we always managed to get a table sooner or later and the guys behind the bar were unfailingly friendly.

With regards to location, the hotel is less than five minutes level walk down the road from the Obergurgl ski school, so this wasn't a problem at all - even when carrying kids' stuff too. There are a couple of supermarkets that are around a 5/10 minute walk away, (when not in ski boots).

We had a fantastic time in Obergurgl and the Lohmann was a pleasure to stay at. I still can't quite get over what a good deal it was when we booked and I would definitely consider returning if we ever went back to the area. Recommended.
