Omega Holidays sure didn't let on in advance that after arriving at Basel/Mulhouse airport,it would take a 6 hour- yes six- transfer to our destination at the Sport Hotel, St. Anton. In the same way, they advertised this holiday as eight days whereas the reality is that it was only a seven night stay.

On arrival, after a very tiring journey, we were offered a set dinner which included the most overdone piece of chicken I think I've ever tasted. Then I was pursued out of the hotel by the wine waitress who accused me of avoiding paying for drinks we ordered at dinner- despite the fact we had been advised earlier that we would be seated at fixed tables throughout the week with drinks charged to our room bill.To cap matters off, we discovered later that the same wine provided by the hotel was on sale in the local supermarket at 1/5th of the cost. Not so much a mark-up as a complete rip-off.

If you were ever a fan of school dinners, then the Sport Hotel is the place for you.Loads of stews and casseroles for main courses with the soup course each day mysteriously consisting of cream of whatever vegetables had been left over from the previous day's meal.Desserts were also very poor with the ubiquitous blob of cream from an aerosol can decorating every dish.Luckily there was always a salad course- just as well, otherwise I wouldn't have eaten all week.

The hotel itself was fairly well appointed but with no air conditioning so trying to sleep was a nightly ordeal. The goose down pillows had the same consistency as the blancmange desserts served at dinner and proved utterly useless for people accustomed to a firm neck support. We didn't make use of the spa/pool area, as again, it was too humid and unpleasant an atmosphere to be in.

We did have a great view of the mountains on the south side of St. Anton from our room balcony and our en-suite room was spacious with seating area, wide screen telly and fridge but no tea/coffee making facilities. If you wanted tea or coffee or even bottled water at mealtimes or other times, you had to pay extra with the exception of breakfast.

I used to think it was just the Spanish who tried to scam tourists at every turn but the Austrians would give them a good run for their money. Can't fault the housekeeping standards though, with our room kept spick and span at all times throughout our stay.Indeed, the entire village is immaculate with a complete absence of litter, graffiti or vandalism.

In Austria the prices of drinks and food generally are expensive and as St. Anton is so quiet in the summer months the choice of places to eat or buy snacks is limited. The outstanding natural beauty of the area and the chocolate box prettiness of the village are impressive but we were left with the impression that it could do so much more to attract visitors.

If we ever do return to Austria, it certainly won't be with Omega Holidays and we won't be staying at the Sport Hotel with its regimented and inflexible approach to guest care.Fixed meal times with limited menu options just aren't acceptable to most travellers nowadays.Neither are the additional charges that seemed to crop up including room safe hire, tea /coffee, hot breakfast supplement etc.

We have just stayed at the Sport Hotel for the second time, its first class, great food, great room, and wonderful staff and the location could not be better, it really is a super place to stay. St Anton has many treasures to find when doing just simple easy walks. We travelled with Parrys International the Rolls Royce of CoachTour Companies

My husband and I have just spent 5 days here, our accomodation on a Robinsons coach tour. Everything about it was excellent, the staff were fantastic always cheerful and any requests dealt with immediately. Rooms were kept spotless, food was delicious and the pool was a pleasure to swim in. Well worth the long trip to get there.

We stayed here as a couple with Crystal ski in late March/early April. The hotel itself is of a very good standard featuring traditional Austrian decor with an authentic feel. Check in was easy and simple and all staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Rooms were simple but clean and served as a nice place to sleep. We had a side room with views down the valleys. Noise at night was noticed however if you've skied hard enough during the day you'll sleep through it. If not ski harder! Hotels facilities were well kept and of a good standard. These included a pool and steam room aswell as a cocktail bar, lounge and ski and boot room. The food was varied and served to a very high standard each night. Order water for the table as alcoholic drinks are very expensive. The location of the hotel is perhaps it's best feature. Just 2 minute walk from the galzig lifts and to gampen etc. Close to lots of nice drinking bars that vary from lively to sophisticated. Also just a 10 minute walk down from the Mooserwirt and Crazy Kangaruh. A handy bus service (Mooserkrus) offers a lift up to the famous bar.

Overall very satisfied and would return/recommend.

Fantastic. Great Bedrooms, Great Pool and Spa, Great Breakfast - massive choice, fresh, well laid out. Great Dinner, fresh salad bar, 4 courses and good wine list. Very clean and tidy at all times of the day. Best of all - the staff who are well trained, polite, friendly, attentive and clearly well motivated.

We have stayed in Ski Hotels all over the world for over 40 years and I can honestly say this hotel is the best all round experience we have had.

Room Tip: Try for a South Facing room.
