“Great place for skiing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 January 2013

Just got back from a short four day ski break in St Anton and stayed at the Hotel Sonnbichl. What a fantastic find! We travelled with another couple and had spent some time trying to find a hotel that was not too expensive and not too far out from St Anton. Hotel Sonnbichl scored on both counts. We shared a family room for four, which if you are prepared to compromise a little on space and privacy works out really cost effective. The hotel is a four minute bus journey from the Nasserein ski lift or a ten minute downhill walk. The bus stop is virtually outside the hotel. The hotel has a deal with a ski shop in Nasserein so you can leave your skis and boots in a locker there without having to take them on the bus. From the Nasserein you can access the St Anton ski area. The hotel staff were excellent and the food is outstanding. We really enjoyed the Lech and Rendl ski areas, not so busy as the main St Anton slopes and in better condition. We will definitely be back to Hotel Sonnbichl.

If you are looking for a small Hotel, that gives you a superb personal service, then this is the Hotel for you.
It is family run, with Father and son running the front of house and Mother in the kitchen. The food is out of this world. We had the half board package, which gives you a 5 course evening meal. Each course is superbly presented and tastes as good as it looks. The breakfast is traditional and to an extremely high standard.
We took a late booking in the 1st floor apartment, which was very comfortable and with its own balcony. I would defiantly stay again and recommend it to my friends.

We spent one night on a double room, had dinner at the restaurant of the hotel.
Great dinner, very good breakfast and large, clean and very confortable room. Very good position if you want to stay from a short walking distance from the centre on St. Anton.

We were there at beginning of march as part of an organized ski vacation package. Right from the beginning we felt welcome and we've got all informations regarding the upcoming ski week and where to go to get prepared.

The place is very well maintained and the room are sufficiently large. But the real surprise is the 5 courses meal every night, wow ! It's like a family dinner, even though we were a group of 8, we had a great service. The wine recommendations were very adequate for non-connaissor of Austrian wine. Great italian too

There was a good variety for breakfast and we didn't missed a thing...

Typical day was right after breakfast we just get out and the bus stop for all ( including all skiers )
is at the door. We leave the bus at gondola station and included in our package was the location of a spot for our ski and a boots dryer. From there we were a few steps away from gondola

There a couple of spot where you can take the bus back to the hotel .

Wifi and sauna ( clean ) to finish it up...

The staff answered all of our questions to make the stay & skiing experience very easy and convenient. The rooms were charming. Location was hard to beat - 10 minute walk or free bus ride to the lift. The only complaint was the maid opened our door two consecutive times in the morning without knocking first. I told the person at the desk but he didn't seem to acknowledge my concern. Don't let that keep you from staying here, as it was an excellent overall experience.

We stayed at the Sonnbichl a few times already and every year we enjoy our stay very much. The hotel gives excellent value for money. The rooms are comfortable, nice warm and clean. Breakfast is super: healthy and with great variety of food. Dinner is great: five courses every day and much, much better than the standard Austrian kitchen. No schnitzels (however tasteful they may be) and pommes in this hotel.
Good service, ski room to leave your skis and shoes in, bus stop right in front of the hotel (bus every fifteen minutes). You can also leave your ski equipment at a depot near the lift (courtesy of the hotel) and walk the short distance from the hotel to the lift (700-800 meters), or take the bus anyway, as you wish.
Very recommendable!

Sonnbichl is a nice family run hotel 10 minutes walk from the Nasserein lift which takes you to the heart of the St Anton ski area. It is a quiet hotel with excellent food and a welcoming atmosphere. It has no facilities other than a sauna and wi fi in the rooms but that seems to me to be all you need on a ski holiday. The hotel is 20 minute walk from the heart of St Anton so if you are looking for night life it is probably not for you, but if you like a quiet night after a hard day's skiing then it is ideal. The rooms are of a reasonable size, quiet, with small but adequate shower rooms and in my opinion it was good value. The beds are of average comfort but ok. An added bonus is that the hotel has an arrangement with a ski shop by the lift so that you can leave your boots and skis there overnight for free. That means you can walk to the Nasserein lift every morning to wake up your stiff muscles instead of having to wait for the bus (which comes every ten minutes and can be crowded at peak times). It's a nice walk too.
