“Sadly not as good as expected”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 January 2012

I have just returned after a weeks skiing in St Johann in Tirol and sadly I cannot agree with a lot of the previous comments. I'm not one to want to give negative reviews and usually concerntrate on the positive.
The hotel is in a good position and is only 10 mins walk to the gondola, and 2 minutes to the village centre. The entrance to the hotel is very nice with an a la carte restaurant to the side and a bar. The main restaurant is to the rear of the property and is of a good size. The rooms are adequate and what you would expect in Austria, some modernisation would not go amiss, the rooms and bathroom are kept very clean. The staff are very helpful and friendly and always have a smile.
My main gripe with this hotel is the quality of food that was produced for the evening. The quality was erratic and best. On one occasion we were served under cooked chips!! and only 5 irregular chips were placed on the plate. I can understand trying to make food look like its out of a magazine but for the chips to be of different sizes and not cooked does not bode well. Also cream cheese placed into 2 ham slices and rolled up with a quarter of a tomato does not represent anything other than boredom or cant be bothered. There are others but I will spare you the tedium. Finally, we were not allowed to have a jug of tap water on the table!! why I don't know and to purchase drinks was very pricey. Even the waitresses could not give a reason apart from its not allowed. I have eaten in many restaurants over the years and water has always been made available or by request. But it was ok to by a bottle of mineral water!!!
As I said earlier I don't like to give negative feedback. Whilst I appreciate that budgets are tight with hotels and bookings may be down but that does not give any hotel the right to rip off customers and I along with others who stayed at the same time felt the same.
Its a real shame as in my opinion they had the opportunity to make a difference but decided not to bother and because of that I wont be back to the Bruckenwirt.

My husband and I have just returned from a weeks stay at the Hotel Bruckenwirt. The hotel was comfortable, room was clean but a little tired. After a days skiing it was good to return to the warm hotel and look forward to a lovely evening meal. There were five courses each evening with a choice of main. Breakfast was plentiful with fresh croissants and breads. Cereal and hot food was also available. The bar area was pleasant but the prices of the drinks varied each night!

This hotel is about a 10 minute walk to the gondola. There are ski buses that pick up outside the hotel but the do not run frequently enough. They are supposed to be every half hour but it varied greatly. The hotel has a ski room with heated boot rack but the system was not connected so the boots didn't dry sufficiently. Enjoyed our stay.

just returned from st johann were we spent a lovely week at the bruchenwirt hotel.we were put up in the eves of the hotel and yes you had to take care not to bang your head when using the toilet but this was the only negative thing about this hotel.cant understand why some of the reviews have been so negative as we found all the staff to be both helpful and friendly and the food to be more than adequate.

Some of the reviews of this hotel say that the staff are rude and ignorant but I have to say we were really well looked after and welcomed. We've been finding over the past couple of years that the Austrians are far nicer than the French in terms of being welcoming to tourists and prices were very reasonable for the holiday itself and around the resort. Ok its not a full on 4 star but its very comfortable and you do get access to the resorts pool which is lovely. The decor is a bit depressingly dark in some of the areas and we found that our room was a little tired but I'd stay here again. Loved St Johann itself, the super short transfer meant we were skiing by 11.30am on the first day and you can jump on a bus down to Kitzbuhel in 10 minutes. The resort was recommended by skiline and the booking made with Crystal, with a super short transfer and lovely village we were well advised.

My husband and I just got back from St Johann yesterday, we had a lovely holiday, we stayed at The Bruchenwirt Hotel which was very nice until we got to our room , it was in the eves and was small and dark, no light got in at all, we couldn't read a book or magazine, the only light we had was a table lamp which was useless. We also had problems with the toilet area as we had to duck down to get into the toilet , it would be ok if you were one of the dwarfs from snowwhite. It was also very hot, no air conditioning,
There was a lot of noise during the night as boy racers were revving and speeding along the street , so between the heat and noise from outside we didn't get much sleep.
The food, service and cleanliness were all excellent and the waiters were very helpful and friendly. Towels were changed on a daily basis.

Room Tip: Make sure you don't get put in the eves when you are booking your stay and you are at the back o...

This Hotel has a sole and all around the owners taste. If you like to feel home and known by name. Have your coffee before even asking and like the smaller cosy places of the world. You are right here!!!
Staff was very friendly and don't forget we all people with different cultures. I can't understand people who let go their frustration instead of giving constructive comments.

The owner was on holiday and the cover staff looked after the place as it would be owned by them.

Well done I'll be back!
