“Nice hotel, but unfriendly staff”
Reviewed 23 January 2013

Drinking your own bottle of water in the lounge? Not allowed
Taking a shower in the sauna before you leave? Not allowed
Do you have problems with the heater in your room? It's your own problem
Want to have a nice dinner? Don't go to this hotel

At the other hand:
Nice rooms, good price, good location.

This is an old fashioned, traditional, family run hotel which captures the true essence of a hotel in a skiing village and was perfect. We arrived at about 07h00 and they had our rooms ready which was great after our long flight and offered us breakast as well. The rooms were comfortable, clean and warm at all times. The staff were truly amazing and the owner was a delight to chat to as she knew south Africa. Everybody in the hotel was so warm, friendly and made us feel at home. The meals were always delicious and our waitress in the mornings always remembered how we liked our eggs. She was so sweet and came to say good-bye to us when were checking out. Their spa facilities, sauna and steam room were excellent especially after a long day of skiing. st johann is a magical winter wonderland for skiers and this hotel was perfect. We will be back and have recommended this hotel to our travel agent as well.

when i came here with my family i was really suprised by the style of the hotel. It was very beautiful and unique. The rooms was clean and the cleaner ( especially the curly one) was very friendly. What about food, it was delicious all the time, and the breakfast was one of the best we've ever had. All stuff was friendly, and except the little bit higher prices, was everything perfect. We are now recommending this hotel to all ours friends. Next summer we come back :)

I occasionally stayed one night at the "Brückenwirt" during my summer holidays where I went on a motorbike tour. I basically chose the hotel because of ist look: not too much of a "touristic facade" andnot too less to look crappy. At the entrance I noted some plates claiming about awards (but from 2009) promising good quality of the rooms and the food.
I have to admit that I was really happy to get a room there after a long journey and was grateful about the pragmatic approach of the manager (and yes there is a parking issue, but usually solved pragmatically).
The room was nice, although its decoration is somewhat outdated but it has a certain charme. It is neat and clean (some dust in one corner) but otherwise clean.
Food is simple and service makes the impression of being a little bit "grumpy" but is still correct and friendly. Food quality is solid but definitively not the category that the plate on the entrance claims. Breakfast has a good variety to offer but the service there was just too lazy (or too much in a rush) to be really good. Coffee was not what I would expect from a 4-Star hotel.

All together it was a good stay but the room was a little bit overpriced. If the price would be a little bit lower I would book this hotel again.

This is no four star hotel. Rooms are clean but basic to say the least and not as advertised. We questioned this but were rudely brushed off. The manager needs to realise she is plain rude. Although some staff are pleasant and helpful others did thier best to undo those efforts. at the price they charge this is a poor hotel and better value is easy to find in sankt johan. Avoid this hotel.

This hotel has a great location just on the edge of the town centre. All shops/amenities are within an easy walk, the main gondola & ski-schools e.t.c. about 10 minute walk.
Hotel has a pleasant atmosphere (apart from the smoke - which you find floating through most buildings in Austria) and actually quite quiet. True, the furnishings are a bit old and worn/battered - but this all helps to give a lot of character to the hotel. Everything is however very clean and we found no faults within our room or with any part of the hotel.
Our room was spacious enough for the two of us with plenty of storage space, extra blankets for the bed and a nice balcony.
The breakfasts on offer were the usual continental mix of pastries, bread, cereal, fruit, sausage/scrambled eggs e.t.c. e.t.c. - enough to have a bit of variety and keep you going till lunch.
Evening meals were very good, varied through the week (except for salad buffet & soup as part of the daily menu) and each proved very tasty - The restaurant staff were very good and deserve a special mention for their attentive service.
Overall we had a very nice stay and would certainly recommend this hotel.

We stayed at the Bruckenwirt in Feb 12 for a family holiday of skiing. We chose the half pension option - and it was worth it!
We received a very warm welcome and were given a family room on the first floor. It was very large by European standards (I was expecting a cramped closet with bunk beds!). There were two bedrooms. One with 2 beds and one with 3 (double and single). There was a living room and two bathrooms (very nice with kids.....).
The room had floor heat, which turned out to be nice for drying jackets and bibs after a long day out. The furnishings varied from antiques to dated chairs - but all in all very comfortable.
There was service every day, and they serviced the room nicely.
The food was perfect. Hearty breakfast, and a superb 5 course dinner. The service was outstanding (Melissa from S. Africa) and she made sure all was well at all times. It seems like she never took time off!
There is a sauna and steam room. Very spa-like. We went down each evening. Only one night was the sauna not working.
There is a ski room and the ski bus is right outside the door (give it 5 minutes on either side of the scheduled time). 10 minutes walk with kids to the gondola, so we avoided the bus except for the first day.
There is a bar downstairs, quite quaint. Anyone concerned about smoking however will need to be aware that there is still smoking indoors and in public areas in austria. Not sure what the rules are, but it was allowed in the bar area.

Room Tip: Room 113 is a large family room
