Firstly I would say that I can see this hotel suiting elder people travelling without young children. It is in a handy but very quiet location, with good food and mostly friendly staff. However...
Crystal bookers beware. If you have been to any of the other pepi penguin equipped hotels this is not the same. It is not run exclusively by Crystal staff, and they do not do an evening snuggle club.
Our room was very small and cramped for 2 adults and one small child. It was a really silly shape, like an "L" and the bed got in the way, so you'd forever bang your toes off it and the ceilings were low- felt like wearing my helmet in the room.
Beds were uncomfortable and the rooms really hot and stuffy- opening the patio door was the only solution.
The bathrooms have really annoying taps, which are automatic but only stay on for about 2 seconds after you trigger them.
Food- good and varied, no grumbles there. However the "all inclusive" is a bit of a rip- you only get it 6-9pm in the restaurant and they don't make any effort to keep you topped up- and you can't have a big beer, you have to keep trying to flag down a waiter- which is harder than you might think.
They do a snack time at apres-ski time, where you can get tea/coffee and some cakes, but you'll have to pay for beer or wine- it's not part of your all inclusive deal.
The pepi nursery was run by two really nice girls, who did their best and our boy loved them.
What I would say was there was a lack of outdoor activities, only 2 of the 6 days had outdoor time. We spoke to the other families who had kids in there and all felt the lack of a snuggle club caused problems and could not recommend the hotel.
Ski bus stops outside, don't bother trying to ski to the lift, you'll end up walking.
Tried the pool, quite nice, if a little cold- good way to unwind.

My family and I stayed here over the Christmas week 2013. The food in the hotel is of a consistent high standard, with a large choice of traditional Austrian, Tyroler dishes every night. As the hotel was all inclusive, the beer / wine is also good with a good house wheat beer and a lager, and the red wine is very drinkable.
The staff were very friendly and work very hard. Our son was sick for the first 3 days, the hotel proprietor was extremely helpful in organising a taxi and instructions to see the emergency doctor.
The annexe building has a better restaurant and is where the spa is located, but the rooms are not a polished 4 star and are a bit tired. However in true Austrian style, they are very clean and sufficient space to sleep in. I would certainly return to this hotel, and a great place to go with Children of all ages.

Fantastic hotel; rooms adequate, pool was nice, sauna / steam room was excellent but the food and every member of staff were amazing! Try Naschbergers restaurant for a very tasty pizza. Ski bus to the lift was just what was needed to conserve our energy for the slopes. Thank you for a fantastic experience. Tracey and Kevin

This was a great find not least because it is all inclusive but it is also very good value. The hotel is in the small quiet village of Scheffau and sits at the foot of the mountains and close to the cable car. The rooms are very large and have nice views and very good ensuite facilities. The hotel has a lovely indoor pool that in the summer can also be accessed from the garden. The food is very good and if you are out for the day you can make up a packed lunch at breakfast. The idea of afternoon tea and cakes is very nice although I dont think much tea got drunk but the wine was going down well! There are some very nice walks from the hotel including the one by the river with a relaxation area - has to be seen! This hotel would suit couples and families and and anyone really looking for a fresh air holiday with a bit of walking. We would love to go back again.

Unfortunately our arrival was delayed as UK airports were closed due to SNOW but having stayed an extra night in london courtesy of Lufthansa we finally arrived in Munich airport allbeit a day late, we expected a private taxi transfer but as we had been delayed we took the bus provided to the resort, transfer time from memory was approximately 1.5 hours......
On arrival we upgraded to the family suite with the childrens beds located on an upper mezzanine floor as the standard room looked a little too cosy for a weeks stay with all the ski kit.
When we did eventually settle in we were very happy with what the hotel provided, ski shop was located in the basement, ski bus pick up across the road.
Food can only be described as excellent for both adults and children, we stayed on an all inclusive basis, breakfast, afternoon snacks (hot/cold/cake) and self service buffet evening meal.........the food here is seriously good and just what you need when burning up the calories..........we didnt go crazy on the drink front but local beer and wine is available as you need........
The pool and evening meal restaurant are located in a separate annexe building which is reached by a very short walk from the back of the hotel, sauna and spa facilities are traditional meaning its kit off, so beware if you are a little shy......
Overall a great place to stay with a family, the village itself is very quiet so dont expect to walk out in the evening to a discover a range of bars as quite simply there arent any, although you could of course try the atmostphere of other hotels if you have any energy left after your evenings feast.......
This hotel is a great place to stay with a family especially if you savour the Austrian cuisine and hospitality, oh almost forgot the pizza option, if you fancy pizza one night you can book into the separate dining room to sample homemade giant pizza.......try it........
,,,Only negative point is that we got charged for the private taxi that we missed even though I called the hotel in plenty of time to say that we would not be arriving due to the weather problems in the uk, also had to pay for the night we missed but that is understandable.........
Ski bus ride just 5 minutes down the road to the main gondola - SKI AREA MASSIVE !!!!

As we drove up to Scheffau village it felt like coming to visit an old friend. The welcome from reception was lovely, our room was ready even though we arrived at 10.30am . The food was excellent everday with a good choice of meat veg and salad for evening meal and fruit meats cheeses and egg / bacon / sausages for breakfast, we were here "all inclusive" but as we were out walking we took a pack lunch everyday which you prepared your self from the breakfast menu so I cant say what the lunches were like. Afternoon coffee and cake was very nice too. In the evenings after dinner we went to the bar where Krisztina looked after us.
We had room 404 for the second time, this is a nice corner room with good views in 2 directions.
The service here is always with a smile, the location is great for walking, with the hiking bus stopping across the road and the area around the hotel is stunning.
There are great staff here, thanks to Zsolt, Krisztina, Hans, Laszlo and Barbara and all the rest of the team, we really had a great time
A couple of tips: the tourist board opposite sells a card that gives you use of all the gondolas / chair lifts in the area. The shop below the hotel does E bike rental at a reduced rate of 15 euros for a day, good fun.

Room Tip: I like room 404, it is in a corner on the 3rd floor at the front very comfortable and with nice view...

I have recently had the pleasure of a week long visit to Hotel Alpin Scheffau and I had an superb time. I certainly recommend this hotel and the 'all inclusive' for a enjoyable stay. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and designed in traditional Tyrolean style with pine furniture and and décor, many with breathtaking views of the hills or Wilder Kaiser mountains.

The staff are very friendly and the food really is one of many strong points and I would give it 20 out of 10, home cooked and of great quality. During my visit there was an oriental themed evening with Thai and Chinese food which I really enjoyed. Breakfasts include bacon and eggs or continental with various meats. Lunch is is nice and during evening meal good quality meats are sliced form the joint. You can help yourself to a buffet with various hot vegetables, meat dishes, such as schnitzel, goulash, fish, a salad bar and sweets. Beer, wine, soft drinks and other refreshments are served at the table on a regular basis. Tea, coffee and various herbal teas are available to help yourself.

The bar area is really nice too, the front area is like a local bar with great views towards the magnificent hills, Branstadl and Hohe Solve. Drinks are served at the table so you don't always need to go to the bar, the all inclusive last until 2200 after which you can purchase extra drinks.
There is an indoor swimming pool which is ideal for bad weather. There is also a large sauna area which I did not use but it looks excellent from the pictures I have seen; the only thing is you need to ask if you want to use it as its behind a locked door, would be better if it was open so you're able to go straight in there from the pool.

Scheffau is a really nice village with a small supermarket and below the hotel is a gift shop selling clothing, maps sports gear and gifts. Opposite the hotel is the tourist information where you can get information on all attractions and also purchase lift passes. Also opposite the hotel is the bus stop where you can get the free 'Kaiser Jet' bus to surrounding villages of Ellmau, Going, Kaiserbad Aqua park, Soll, and all the lifts in these villages. In Ellmau you will find larger shops and several other mountain lifts.
There are many walks from Scheffau such as to Hintersteinersee, Gruten Hutte and not far is the Branstadl cable car which takes you high above the valley from where there are numerous walks.

This was my first visit to Austria in almost 3 years, I had previously been visiting neighbouring Ellmau since about 1996 and I am really pleased to have returned. Austria is a beautiful country and I enjoyed staying in Scheffau at Hotel Alpin and I am even more determined to return to this excellent hotel and country soon.
I really recommend staying at this hotel and I look forward to returning here. Thank you.
