This was our 1st family snowboarding holiday with our 6month old baby. Our main priority was childcare for our son. After extensive searching, we booked with Crystal Holidays for their creche facilities, their direct flights from Glasgow and the short transfer time.

Scheffau town is tiny and there isn't much there although there are plenty of activities run by the reps and lots going on at the bottom of the slopes. The hotel is positioned in the town & is a couple of mins on the frequent ski bus to the ski area. Its free. There is also a piste basher towing a chair lift seat that takes you to and from the bottom of the slopes! Another option is an easy blue run from the hotel.

The Alpin is in 2 buildings. We were in the older building but I would say its been decorated quite recently. It was a good sized room, cleaned every day and our baby had a proper cot (not a travel cot) which I thought was fantastic. All meals are buffet style and you can literally eat as much as you want. There is also a buffet available around 4pm for soup and cakes when you come off the mountain! They have high chairs and have an early kids dinner time too. Beer, wine and soft drinks are free with dinner and you can sit from 6pm-10pm and no one hurries you out the restaurant. Its a free bar! Its very relaxed and the staff are fantastic. There is a pool, an older kids 'chill out room' with pool tables etc, a climbing wall, pizza restaurant (you can eat here instead of the buffet but you pay for drinks) and a public bar. There is even a little zoo for the kids. The ski hire is under the hotel and there is a boot room available too. The hotel offer a free sleigh ride for everyone. Just book at reception.

The Crystal Creche was fantastic. We chose it as it is located within the hotel. I was unsure as he was so young but the nannies reasured me as soon as I met them. Security is excellent. They note down everything he did, ate, nappies etc & he got a little book with everything he did at the end of his holiday. I never once heard any child cry or be upset. The creche was spotless and he loved it. I spent mornings with him and snowboarded in the afternoon but I was so comfortable with the level of care that I booked him in for a full day on our last day. It is a small and personal service that I would really recommend for any parent of a pre-ski age child.

There are various lift passes and you can even ski into Kitzbull. My husband got an all area pass and I bought daily passes as I was only using them pm. It gets cheaper the later you go up the slopes. Wednesday is 'ladies day' - ladies get kids prices on their passes! There is a baby enclosed ski school area at the top of the gondola that take kids from 2. They don't actually go on the slopes, just learn in this little area but it looks really good. Its mostly chairlifts and gondolas, very few tows. Huge ski area with slopes for all abilities. The snow was amazing and there are loads of snow cannons too just incase...........

Great holiday. Would recommend for families but not for groups wanting a party holiday. A few bars but not much apres ski going on.

We stayed at the Alpin having booked our first family skiing holiday with Esprit Ski - and we weren't disapointed! An hour's transfer from the airport, following a 1.5hr flight from Gatwick to Innsbruck and we arrived at our destination.

The hotel is well placed for skiing - there is a free ski bus directly opposite the hotel with 3min trip to the gondola or you can ski down a very gentle blue run, walk under the bridge and find yourself at the gondola! Well worth doing this on the way home as the piste basher transports you back to the hotel daily from 3 to 4pm - the boys loved this and we raced it back down and waited for another lift back to the hotel!

The hotel is fantastic! We were in the newer part of the building and had agood sized room for a family of four - a double bed and double sofa bed which was fine for our boys [aged 9.5 and 6]. Plenty of wardrobe space and hangers and separate toilet.

The hotel was classed as half board but was virtually all inclusive. A buffet breakfast [the usual fruit, cereal, toast, cooked breakfast], afternoon tea from 3.30 to 5pm which served drinks, soup, rolls, cakes etc and then meal in the restaurant which was buffet style [ generally soup and another starter, a choice of three main courses, dessert, fruit, ice cream and cheese & crackers]. Also complimentary drinks with the meal - soft drinks, wine and beer. There is also a pizza restaurant at the hotel and you can eat there [but need to book] you then just have to pay for your drinks.

Esprit organised an early start the first morning picking up ski equipment from the ski shop below the hotel from 8am to enable lessons at 10am on the first morning. The guys in the ski shop were excellent! Boots & skis can be stored overnight in the ski cellar of the hotel.

The ski school meeting point for adults and children is right at the top of the gondola. We had ski lessons with the local ski school [ski scheffau] - our instructor [a 23yr old Austrian called Reinhard] was excellent. Four hours on the first day to get you into it and then 2hrs daily thereafter. This worked well as the childrens lessons ended the same time and we all ate together in the mountain restaurant before practising together in the afternoon!

The snow was good, although there are snow cannons when snow is limited [not that I know if this is any good if there is no snow!] We had snow on Tuesday night, and the next day the skiing was perfect with the layer of powder! Over the week the snow in the village started to disappear but given the snow up the mountain this wasn't a problem!

We had a local area pass - fine for beginners like us but when we return next year we will get the area pass as this opens up so many more runs to try! We had taken the boys out of school as the half term price was an additional £1500 and we were glad we had as the slopes were not too busy but we noticed a difference on saturday when the locals descended!!

The Esprit reps were fantastic - very friendly, great with the kids and couldn't do enough for you!

Scheffau is a small resort and not much good for nightlife if you are looking for lively apres ski, we weren't and this suited us perfectly - in bed by 9pm so we could be up at 7.30am for breakfast and to hit the slopes by 10am!

We had a fabulous time - we are now all hooked on skiing and will definitely return next year to the Alpin!
