“Gorgeous”
Reviewed 25 June 2013

The Muir Woods park is so majestic and beautiful. I would have been sad to have been so close and not gone. It's a nice change from the hustle and bustle of Wine Valley and San Francisco.

“Take your kids here”
Reviewed 25 June 2013

This place is unique and gives you a good history of the Martinez area, besides John Muir there is also a Spanish style adobe built by a Mexican founding family that is neglected in the description.

“Muir's home in the country, now an urban attraction”
Reviewed 1 June 2013

Fortunately John Muir was a key actor in preserving so many wild places. His home and part of his farm, once a rural hideaway, is now directly on a highwa., the Muir Historic Site has outstanding rangers who make the place -- and John Muir and his family -- come alive. A small gift shop is connected to the house and you can wander the grounds and trails as you will. Usually not that crowded, but on weekends the place is like a Japanese meditation garden for the entire area. Martinez is a rail center for the Central Valley and the transcontinental railroad, easily accessible by car and bus as well.

“Come visit this little known NPS site”
Reviewed 24 May 2013

John Muir was a true Renaissance man, and this NPS site has his family home, plus part of his orchards and a lovely hike to Mt. Wanda and Mt. Helen (named after his two daughters). Back in the day this was a peaceful rural farmhouse. Now it is within the bustle of Martinez and near Highway 4. Worth a visit to see the house, the Martinez Adobe, and take a leisurely walk into the hills. Bring water, a hat, and sunscreen.

“Beautiful and Peaceful”
Reviewed 18 April 2013

Bring your walking shoes! The entry fee is only $7 and you can walk through the woods at your own pace. It is so beautiful and quiet. My husband and I enjoyed the walk together and got some wonderful pictures.
