“Just walking by.”
Reviewed 17 February 2014

I was just walking by this restaurant when I noticed their menu sign. The pork chop dinner described sounded so good I walked in, even though they were closed after lunch service. I spoke to chef Rachel who made the pork chop dinner sound so good I committed to coming back. The dinner was perfect. Every aspect of it. Great service. Great dinner. Sauted spinach, in the right quantity could have been the main course it was so tasty. this place is a keeper for me.

“Excelent home cured meats and traditional cooking”
Reviewed 4 February 2014

If you like charcuterie and homemade sausages, you will love this place.

The chef,Rachael prepares and cures all her own meats - and seems to know and work with all the local farmers around the neigborhood
She also teaches classes on curing and pickling and is an expert on traditional ways of preserving foods.

This is a mostly a lunch time sandwich place for court workers but, in the evening it is a small, intimate restaurant with an outside street dining area. (Alhough it looks more like a sandwich bar than the fine food restaurant that it is)

It is well worth the drive from Walnut Creek just to eat here - and make sure you take the time to talk to the Chef and learn about the care, love and attention that went into preparing you meal.

“A lifesaver during Jury Duty”
Reviewed 3 February 2014

I spent 3 days in Martinez due to Jury Duty. Two of them I had lunch at this cafe, and was disappointed I didn't start here the first day. The lady at the counter is very friendly and sweet. The split pea soup was delicious - warm, comforting and flavorful. I had the same salad two days in a row: crisp, fresh romaine, lightly dressed, with tender tri-tip, creamy goat cheese and crunchy almonds. So tasty! The chocolate chip cookie I had was perfect - chewy but not gooey and so good! I definitely would visit here again and highly recommend it.
