“Good 3 star hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 January 2014

Spent Christmas 2013 here with family -husband,son (15) and parents (in their 70's and both proud to be still skiing!)
We had booked a triple room through Crystal but on arrival we were offered an extra room for 10 euros a night, worth every penny when a teenager is in tow.
Rooms were comfy and we had a bath in our room, son had a shower. All 3 of our rooms had balconies (207,208 and 209) at the front of the hotel. Very quiet at night. The food was well cooked, there wasn't much choice and no good for vegetarians. My mum requires a gluten free diet, the hotel catered very well particularly the desserts making pancakes with corn flour, and even a chocolate cake dessert one evening. Christmas eve was a gala dinner and carols while the tree was lit, very festive. Christmas Day we had a fondue with complimentary drinks. We were slightly disappointed with the bar area, it was very cold even with the fire lit, and the selection of drinks wasn't huge. But with a jumper on it was pleasant to sit and play games, no evidence of smokers but not sure what policy was on smokers. The hotel doesn't take credit card, we paid for drinks as we went in the bar but had a tab in the restaurant, reasonable prices (5 euros for 250mls of house wine)
The hotel is a long walk to the lifts, we left our skis and boots at Edinger sports at the gondola station (14 Euros per person) The ski bus stops outside the hotel only 2-3 times in the morning, most mornings we walked to the centre and took the bus from there or walked it seeing it as a warm up before skiing.
We enjoyed our stay and would return.

Room Tip: 209 and 208 are either side of the lift, it could disturb light sleepers

My Husband and i booked our yearly ski holiday with Crystal Ski as we do every year.
We arrived at the hotel which looked very nice, with nice decor and clean floors etc, then it went down hill the manager was very rude to us for no reason, we were given the key to our room which was located on the same floor as reception, we went through a door way into a dark and dingy corridor with equipment piled up the wall and where the boiler was, we thought we had gone wrong but unfortunately we were going the right way as we saw the room number, we opened the door and was greeted by the bathroom, then another door into the bedroom, there was damp on the walls and it was just awful, we paid nearly 2000 pounds for this holiday so you can imagine when we saw this room was nothing like the brochure, we went to speak to the manager who said they were fully booked and could swap our room, he then walked away from us when we were talking to him, i was so upset.
The holiday rep came and discussed with him what could be done, he said nothing so she tried to find us somewhere else but as it was school holidays everywhere was full, i am sure we would've had a different experience if we were actually in one of the hotel rooms and not in a make shift room in the storage area. VERY DISAPPOINTED

Room Tip: Make sure you ask how full it is and that you don't want to be in the storage rooms!!!1

Just returned from a fantastic summer holiday at the Hotel Modlinger. The Modlinger family are very friendly and really helpful, as are all the staff. Good food with a choice of main course for evening meal. Limited choice of wine, red or white, but both are really excellent.
The Bar doesn't seem to open in the summer, which makes a quiet atmosphere, but lots of bars in Soll just a couple of minutes down the road. Rooms are lovely, really spacious, and on the back of the hotel have beautiful views.
Our deal included free packed lunches, which you made yourself from the buffet breakfast. Lots of choice, with different breads, cheeses and meat.
There are also free mountain bikes to borrow, great for getting around on, but if you want to do any serious mountain biking you would need to hire something in town.

Room Tip: Rooms on the back of the hotel are really quiet with beautiful views.

Just got back 23/3/13. I can see everybody's point of view here. Spot on about the short stroll into the centre, and easy to pick up a ski bus to the gondola if you can't be bothered to walk it. Definitely worth using the ski/boot store at Edinger sports under the lift station for 12 Euros each over 6 days. It was the last week for the Modlinger before they reopen in mid-May and it showed a bit. The fire in the bar was lit on the Saturday we arrived (16/3) but that was it. The bar was never manned after that night. We asked for the heating to be turned up in our room and we had a Basil Fawlty moment with Herr Modlinger (see previous reviews). It did warm up later in the week but that was more likely due to the resort warming up. One half of our "Austrian Twin" bed creaked more than a Victorian staircase and the mattress was pretty well gone. The bathroom had some mould on the ceiling. The room had a balcony with good views, was a decent size, was always clean and the TV had Sky News. Breakfast as per other views was basic but OK. Hard boiled eggs always available but never any other type which would have been so easy to do. Evening meals were pretty OK actually with good service and the fondue sharing night with another couple was perfectly pleasant. Overall it was fine and almost warrants a very good considering everything.

Room Tip: We had a corner room (114) which had good views but was a bit cold for a couple of days maybe due to...

We were a group of 7 and enjoyed an excellent stay. The rooms were warm, clean, spacious and we had great views from the balconies. Only a 5 min walk to the centre of Soll. Lovely position.
The owner Herbert, his wife and all the staff were very helpful and friendly.
The breakfast and meals were of a good quality. There is a choice of mains, and a vegetarian option, despite what previous reviews say.
Nice bar area with open fire.
I honestly cannot understand some of the gripes of some of the reviewers. This is a great value hotel. I have paid double the price of this holiday and had poorer quality rooms and food.

Location - 5 mins walk to centre, 15 mins walk to lift, bus stop outside.
Staff - efficient and polite.
Rooms - standard clean and roomy Austrian.
Breakfast - adequate. Toast, rolls, cereal, hard boiled eggs, yoghurt. That was it.
Dinner - tasty but no choice of main. They are great at doing pork.
Wine - a choice of "red" or "white": I liked them both though.
Boot room - was cold. Worth usiing the ski store at lift (not expensive).
Bar - fine: typical modest hotel bar.

Overall: Clean and well run but food and drink limited in choice.

Clean, comfortable rooms and friendly helpful staff who made a special effort to cook Gluten free dishes for our friend. Generally an excellent choice of hotel for the price. We were in a group of 14 and really enjoyed our stay.
