We have visited this hotel every January for the past 6 years and it never fails to make for a good place to stay. Child friendly and very very nice restaurant and food is to die for. The outlook and views from the hotel are beautiful, however, the rooms are not all identical and some are looking slightly dated and in need of a bit of a refurb. The family rooms are very authentic and the staff could not be more helpful. We are going again in January 2012 and can't wait.

Room Tip: Request a room on the 1st floor if possible.

Just arrived home from a week in the Jacobwirt. We have been there once before, about 6 years ago and hoped that it would be just as good as we remembered. Didn't need to worry on that score. We were made to feel very welcome by Daniella on reception who greeted us with the biggest smile and the owner arrived to greet us. Our room was lovely. Typical Austrian style with loads of wood. You always select your dinner in the morning at breakfast - this again is quite common in Austria. The breakfast was really good - cereals, fruit juices, different breads and rolls, hams, cheeses, jams etc.,. We were with Inghams, so packed lunch was included, which you ordered the evening before. This consisted of two large tasty filled rolls, chocolate and fruit. Great if you were out in the hills walking. The food at night was as good as we remembered. There was always a choice of main courses and a vegetarian option. Our waiter was called Mark and he was friendly, fast and efficient. The sisters that own the hotel are great. When you came in from your day out they always asked you where you had been and went out of their way to suggest places that you may enjoy. There is an indoor swimming pool at the hotel. You must wear a swimming cap - both male and female, but again this is typical in Austria. When we were on holiday it was my partners birthday and although we hadn't mentioned it they noticed his date of birth on his registration card and surprised him with a cake and sparkler on the day. That is typical of how they go the extra mile in this hotel. And lastly the cleaners are amazing. Every day the room was cleaned so well I wanted to take them home with me. Would I go back? In a blink of an eye.

Nice hotel - large rooms by Austrian standards, very helpful staff, cost in July 2011 was €116. WiFi 3 Euros per hour, so not all that expensive. The hotel is on the main town square, but is a long (20 minutes) uphill (did I mention UPHILL?) walk from the train station - ask ahead of time about a taxi phone number, and have a cell phone with you - there are no services at this train stop. Good restaurant, very friendly staff who had no problems with English.

There were eight of us on the trip, all old friends from our village. We booked through Inghams and flew to Salzburg, just over an hour from Westendorf. We could not fault the hotel and the service was just excellent! We were blessed with seven days of hot sunny weather, just right for exploring the miles of mountain pathways. The Alpenrosenbahn cable car is just a couple of hundred metres from the hotel which in fifteen minutes whisked you up to the mountain tops. We stayed half board and thoroughly enjoyed the varied menu which always included a traditional Tirolean dish. The rooms, although not large are extremely well furnished with masses of storage.
The hotel which has been in the same family for several hundred years is superbly managed by Anne Marie and other members of the family. We would recommend the hotel without hesitation! If in Westendorf in the Summer do not miss a trip to the open air swimming pool(s) about 400 metres from the hotel. The six pools are set in well maintained gardens with all sorts of facilities and playgrounds for children.

Eight of us (four couples, all old friends) had an excellent week at the Jakobwirt at the beginning of July. We were very impressed by the warmth and friendliness of the owners and their staff who created an informal, homely atmosphere. Special thanks to Mark, who brought humour, thoroughness and professionalism to every meal-time. The food, by the way, was very good!

The hotel itself is full of typical Tyrolean character. Its position in the centre of the village is convenient but a little noisy at times. All our rooms - on different floors and with different outlooks - were nicely furnished, clean and well appointed.

The area around Westendorf is good walking territory, ranging from networks of paths through meadows at valley level to more challenging high level tracks. We made use of the gondola lifts at Westendorf (a short walk from the Jakobwirt) and also at Brixen and and Hopfgarten, which are easily reached by the local bus. These provide access to a huge range of routes.

We tended to plan our walks round the numerous alms, which were a highlight. All provide top quality food and drink, from simple wooden platters of bread, cheese and ham to more elaborate dishes - try Tyroler Grostle, a combination of fried potatoes, bacon and egg or push the boat out with a Kaiserschmarrn (emperor's pancake) which will fill you up till dinner!

I would particularly recommend the walk up through the forest to the Zieplhof, which has fabulous views, also the longer walk through the pretty Windau valley to the very rustic Kasealm at Straubing (they make their own cheese) and the equally rustic Filzalm, complete with pet pig, accessed via the gondola at Brixen. There are many others.

Signposting on walking routes is generally excellent but avoid route 91 from the Hohe Salve mountain back to Westendorf. This is really badly signed and difficult, if not dangerous, to follow.

Christmas as it should be,peaceful , not commercial and a chance to celebrate with our hosts on Christmas Eve the birthday of their Mother. After the birthday celebrations we all enjoyed a Lovely meal and to round off the evening we were all given a bottle of wine
and traditional gifts for children in little sacks from under the tree.
The hotel was every bit as good as we had hoped friendy, welcoming, good food etc.
Will be back
