I have visited this hotel many times over the last 40 years and it has never disappointed! In Summer, Spring, Winter and Autumn the hotel is clean and comfortable. The food is excellent especially the steak with onions. This family run business is the jewel of Westendorf and gets my unconditional recommended.

We stayed as a group of friends at the hotel post. The rooms are split between older and a slightly newer extension which have balconies. We were in the newer rooms, which were spotlessly clean but with a one or two small tired aspects. Other reviewers have said how friendly the staff were, I'd have to say that they were OK. Bells ring from the church EVERY morning at 6am & 7am for about 1mintue each time, (not just the hour) & there is a bar on one side of the extension that is loud into the night a few nights of the week.
As for the food / dining. Other reviewers have implied that your somehow shoved in the back room to eat. Its actually really nice & overlooks the garden & everyone has their own booth. Whoever said the food was "chips with everything" was obviously an exaggerator! (I've told you a million times, do not exaggerate!)... In seven days, we had chips TWICE. The main meals were nice, the starters and deserts were lazy. The salad bar was nice & I always enjoyed breakfast.
In summary, we were all really happy with the hotel and what we paid for it. Shame we had crap snow (2013/14 season) but its always fun and injury free to play around in the slush.

P.s. This isn't morbid, but take a walk to the graveyard behind the church at night after dinner. Candles are lit every night.

We have just returned from a fantastic week in Westendorf. We stayed at the Post Hotel and found it to be a very charming, traditional Austrian hotel. We travelled as a group of seven, including three children (8,7 and 3) and four adults (parents and grandparents). When we arrived the children wanted to share a room and the staff were very quick in setting up an extra bed in a twin room with no fuss. The breakfast was good traditional Austrian (hams, cheeses, eggs, rolls, cereals, fruit, yogurt etc) and there was plenty of it. The evening meals were very good - we only had chips on one night and they did a different meal for the children each night although they were allowed a small portion of the main meal if they wished. Each night was three courses and a small salad buffet with a choice of two different main courses. Our rooms were spotless and very comfy- even the beds were comfortable and there was plenty of hot water for a bath each night after skiing. The hotel is in an excellent location for the nursery slope which links across to the main gondola to a very extensive ski area. The staff were very attentive and a credit to this lovely family run hotel. We would definitely go again.

Room Tip: Rooms on the second floor away from stairs were quiet for the children.

Nice friendly staff make up for the basic food (mostly chips with everything). The rooms are clean, warm and tidy although the bathrooms haven't been updated and are a bit worn and weary (see photo's). The Post is advertised as a 3 star hotel and this is probably about right, the problem is that there is a large divide between a 3 and 4 star hotel in Westendorf but this is not really reflected in the price and could become an issue in the future for the hotel.

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Post for 10 nights on a half board basis.
From check in we were made to feel welcome by Sabine who seems to deal with most of the daily management in this family owned Hotel. Her husband Georg did the original booking, however he is also the chef. We were told that we could obtain vouchers to have our evening meal in the front restaurant, but we never found the need. The meals were excellent, with a choice of main course. We were offered a variation later on seeing that we were staying over a week. It also included a salads buffet to be eaten between the starter/soup and mains course, etc. Breakfast was a continental buffet, cheese, boiled eggs, cold meat, rolls, fruit, yogurt, etc. very filling. We got to know the friendly dining room staff during our stay and they were very efficient and accommodating.
The room was traditional style, spacious with a balcony. The bed was extremely comfortable for some unknown reason. It was the Austrian style with two mattresses and two Doonas on the one bed frame. After two nights I asked for a new room however because there was a shower over the bath and we were getting water everywhere. We were quickly swapped to the top floor at the front with a view over the town square and mountains from the balcony. This room had a shower cubicle, much more our thing!
Overall we had a very enjoyable holiday at Hotel Post, even though the snow didn't arrive we had a good time skiing on the man made snow areas and sightseeing around the mountains in the area. Lots of exercise and fresh mountain air!

We stayed at this centrally located hotel whilst on a sking holiday booked through Inghams.

The main attraction has to be the fact that the nursery slopes and chairlift are practically opposite the hotels main entrance. We chose to catch the chair and then ski to the Alpenrosenbahn. making access to the system very easy. If you wish there are also bus stops leading to the same lift as well as the other villages nearby.

The hotel has a ski locker at the rear of the property, although you are allowed to bring your boots inside and store them in the racks on floors one and two.

The property itself is an old Austrian wood lined building with a small but functional entrance with the reception desk. There is a bar where locals like to meet, along with a stube and two other rooms for meals. Unfortunately for us the bar area is very smokey and we declined to visit it because of this. Nevertheless the other areas are smoke free so it is an inconvenience not a problem.

The room we stayed in was large and spacious with a balcony. Whilst the decor is dated the room had a seperate bathroom with a massive double bath, brilliant. The TV was new, the bed was comfortable and there was lots of space for storage. A great feature was the safe at no charge. The hotel also has free Wi Fi, just ask at reception for the codes. The room itself . along with the whole hotel was lovely and clean.

Breakfast is continental style with a choice of cheese, ham, eggs, cereals, fruit, juices and a selection of breads. There are also spreads and juices.

The evening meals are chosen at breakfast with an option of two set menus. The food on this half board basis is ok but nothing fancy. A typical meal would be a soup course, buffet style salad bar on a limited scale, a main and a dessert, generally ice cream. Nevertheless the staff are very helpful with vegetarian options and health issues. Also there is a seven Euro credit towards the extensive and wholesome Al la carte menu if you wish to not take the half board meal. I had the Pfandal which was excellent.

The hotel is rated as a three star and I would suggest that this is about right. If you are looking for grand facilities, pools, saunas etc this hotel will disappoint. However, if you are looking for good value and proximity to the lift system then I would recommend that you look here.

Whilst the smokey bar and lack of a lounge would normally be a drawback on a rating I would like to praise the staff for their professionalism and friendliness. It is the staff that make a hotel and the Post can be proud of it's team. One of our members had a nasty leg injury and the staff could not have been more helpful.

Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Try to avoid the front of the building if possible. Westerndorf is meant to be laid back but the Dut...

Another splendid week, Sabine and everyone at the Post made us all feel really welcome again. The rooms are very clean and the food is plentiful and location excellent. We brought some more family with us this year and they were equally impressed. Thank you once again.
