“Had a wonderful time”
Reviewed 6 May 2014

I was a guest here as part of a group of about 15 for a week of training seminars. The accommodations were very nice, the staff was friendly, and the food was excellent.
In fact, we tried to ask if they could provide smaller portions, but this wasn't possible (!!).

It was wonderful to have the spa, including sauna and pool, and the workout room.

The WiFi was a bit spotty, but always worked near the reception area.

Room Tip: All rooms seemed to be in a quiet location since they overlook the courtyard.

I have stayed in hundreds of good hotels around the world and have never written a review. The reason that I have decided to do so now, is because my son and I have just returned from a weekend at probably the most welcoming hotel I have ever stayed in. The host Heinz greeted us warmly as we arrived unannounced (having used trip advisor as a guide on the 2 hr train journey to Payerbach from central Vienna) and from then on it was friendliness and helpful advice all the way from all of the staff, including the fluently bilingual owners's son Constantin. Our rooms were great value at 47 euro for B&B and the restaurant excellent. A few local characters in the bar added to the evening entertainment and our only regret is that we had to leave on a Monday, when the village music night is held in the bar on Tuesdays ! The only downside was the guest noise that echoes around the courtyard late in the evening and early in the morning, so best avoid a room facing into the courtyard if possible. Overall though, a gem of a place to stay if you are visiting the Eastern Austrian Alps.

Room Tip: Avoid room facing onto courtyard

I just returned from a month long painting seminar held at the Payerbacherhof. I had a single room with full board. Heinz and Ina are wonderful hosts, doing everything they can to make us feel comfortable. The food was wonderful and gave me a great experience of Austrian cuisine. My room was very clean and cosy. I love what they have created as a spa/sauna experience for their guests to enjoy and made use of the spa experience frequently. The little town of Payerbach has a beautiful river running through it, making it a beautiful, quaint place to retreat. A short walk to the train allows you to explore surrounding villages or go to Vienna, very easily, and return to the beauty of this mountain village.

I know this Pension VERY well and all my friends stay in it when they visit us here in the Rax Alps. Over all the other Pensions/hotels in the area Payerbacherhof is the most friendly and everyone is made to feel welcome. Heinz and Ina do everything they can to make sure guests are happy while not being too 'in your face'. The food is excellent - my partner and I eat there quite often. If you want small, cosy, in the heart of the 'village' so you have direct access to transport, the river, the mountains without having to get in a taxi then the Payerbacherhof really can't be beaten. There is also a newly built spa/sauna area and there are also apartments for a bit more of a D.I.Y holiday. ENJOY

Room Tip: Sometimes if there are people in the sauna late at night, rooms directly above can hear the music so...

The Payerbacherhof Hotel is an undiscovered gem and I am loath to put it out there but here goes. Payerbach is a tiny town on the rail line from Vienna to the Semmering one hour from Vienna. The hotel is within walking distance of the station and anyone who loves trains, walking, outdoors, tranquility and eating must go there. The rooms are spotless some older some new. The staff make it and the Food you have to go half board for the best experience of your life at ridiculous prices. Positively the best experience I have had in thirty years travelling.
