The Harmony Motel has history and character. It is a motel, but it is clean and has tons more charm than any chain budget lodging. You can choose to have a kitchenette or there is a communal kitchen with a fridge and freezer with complimentary ice. Each room has an outdoor table and chairs for al fresco morning coffees or evening snacks. The swimming pool and hot tub have an unbeatable view of the desert backdrop. Harmony is on the edge of town so it has lots of space around it. In general, the location of Harmony is superb for accessing the park - there is an entrance 3 miles away in Twentynine Palms and the town of Joshua Tree, with all its hip shops and eateries only 20 minutes away. Ash, the proprietress, has owned the Harmony for 10 years and has lots of knowledge of the local area.

I stayed at the harmony motel the first weekend of May during my visit to Joshua tree national park. I loved the fact that it was so close to the park entrance and the 49 palms oasis trail that I took the opportunity to do and it was a really good trail pick. The rooms are spacious and very clean and I really enjoyed the cold pool which was very refreshing after a long hot day. Great rooms excellent rates and beautiful surroundings it can't get any better. I highly recommended the harmony during your travels.

Harmony is a great name for this motel. When I open the door of my room and step outside I’m immediately in harmony with the spell of the desert. I view the expanse, the display of desert shrubs, see the birds flutter and the creatures scurry, and take in a full breath of the dry air. Life is good. Ashe, the motel owner and manager makes the stay more enjoyable by suggesting outings for the day, restaurants I may like, and makes sure that her facility is meeting all my motel needs. In the morning, she greets me by name.

Sure, you can rent a room in a five-star hotel, walk through the glitzy lobby, and ride an elevator to the third floor. But, when you step out of your room it is into a dimly lit hallway. To me, that is not the desert experience. At the Harmony, I join my friends on the patio in front of my room after a day of hiking. We pull tables and chairs together, salute each other with a cool drink and watch the kaleidoscope of changing light on the desert as the sun retreats--leaving us to bask in the warmth it has bequeathed.

For any person who cherishes a close existence with the treasures of nature, I recommend the Harmony

The rooms at Harmony are done in excellent taste. The place itself sits right in the desert and one feels very much a part of this memorable landscape. The view of the eastern part of Joshua Tree National park is wonderful. Sitting outside the room every morning with a cup of coffee is a perfect way to start the day. Ash,the owner and hostess, is helpful, caring, and a very smart person. The motel is close to several very good restaurants and,of course, Joshua Tree National Park. The pool and jacuzzi are excellent places to relax and refresh after a day of desert hiking.

Room Tip: Room 5 is away from the highway and has a fine view of the desert.

Our hiking group drives 500 miles from Sacramento to Joshua Tree NP every year and stays in a little gem in 29 Palms called the Harmony Motel. This is a very special place--quite a different experience from the chain motels up the road. The owner, Ash, greets you like an old friend and shows you the newly renovated rooms--some with complete kitchens--fridge, stove and sink. The beds are super comfortable, the rooms quiet and clean, each with its own little patio complete with table and chairs. There's a pool and a hot tub for incredible evening star gazing. If you book one of the simpler rooms, you can use a common kitchen to prepare your meals or visit the computer room which doubles as a sort of shrine to U2's iconic Joshua Tree visit years ago (Bono stayed in Room 5). You can't beat the convenient location near the town's many restaurants (we make an annual pilgrimage to the Royal Thai and the ribs place) and the Park Boulevard entrance to the park. We've been coming for the past nine years and look forward to many, many more!

This quaint place has very cute decor, a lovely pool and jacuzzi area and perfect proximity to the park. We stayed in room #0, which has a large fully functional kitchen. This was a fantastic help to us as my husband and I brought our 6 year old and 2 year old.
There are some minor and mainly inexpensive changes that could be made to vastly improve the experience however:
The owner can be cold and somewhat inflexible.
Simply changing the shower head would do wonders. It was a nightmare of a bathing experience between the lack of water pressure and inability to stabilize the water temperature.
The mattresses are awfully old and beat up. So, in the morning, our bodies were no better off than if we had camped and slept with only sleeping bags on the ground.
The pillows were too few and horrendous in quality!!!!
Joshua Tree is almost a guaranteed win, no matter where you stay. And I would love to say I would return to the Harmony Motel, but I wouldn't be able to bear the awful sleep again.

Room Tip: #0 has a large kitchen

Dear Kelly K,

Thank you for writing a review on your stay at the Motel. We appreciate the time you have taken to write this review.
We appreciate that you like the charm, and beauty of the harmony, as well as was grateful for the huge kitchen in your room that catered for your family needs.

As for the cons of the motel nothing of this was brought to our attention, your were asked several times if everything was comfortable in your room, and you and your husband happily told was that all was good . The shower since your check out no one complained, neither did they complain about the beds, in fact even when you were checking out you reconfirmed everything was good and that you would definitely return. The bed were replaced in 2013. To say that it was old and warn out would be unfair.
You ordered a room that had two full size beds for two occupants , your husband is a tall big frame person. I can see this been uncomfortable with two children , perhaps two king bed would have been more appropriate with you and two children ( that you claimed slept awkwardly, as they kicked most of the time , hence you requested the rollaway bed for one of your children) upon check in.

Again we appreciate the review, and to ensure that our services are excellent to our guests we have noted your comments.

This motel is convenient to restaurants and Joshua Tree National Park. It occasionally shows its age but has far more charm than the cookie-cutter chains in the area. The bed in our room was extremely comfortable and the kitchen well worth the extra $10 charged for its use. Bathroom was small but the shower very nice. Nice view from outside our door and attractive garden with whimsical sculptures. Ash was a good hostess and a problem with the heater was fixed immediately.

Room Tip: Motel is right on the main road so higher number rooms away from the road are quieter. We stayed in...
