We were travelling by car through Bulgaria, and chose this place as it was cheap and on our way. Very nice hotel, small, but with good rooms. Breakfast was not included but could be purchased for 1,2-2,5 euro per person. Home made food. The manager helped us to find shop and a place to eat in the evening. He was also increadably helpfull when our car would not start in the morning. Unbeliavable service!
Advise this hotel to those who are travelling by car, but also for those who want to experience Bulgarian nature and mountains, as it is places in a fantastic area.

Hotel was very clean and nice. The best was the owner-very friendly, helpful and nice. Optional breakfast is a great idea so you dont have to book them plus you can have free coffee or tea in the morning. Good location around attractions. Reasonable prize also.

My partner and I went to the small village of Shipka for a night and having booked no accomodation, decided to take a chance when we got there.

There was a sign for the hotel in the centre where the bus dropped us off and we walked 200meters up a small hill and went into the hotel.

They didn't have any rooms for the night but instead let us stay in an apartment next door that they owned. It was clean and comfortable and had wonderful views over the village and the mountains behind as well.

The manager of the hotel was very welcoming and hospitable. He stayed and talked with us for a while and told us about the history of the area, about the Thracianempire and the Thracian tombs and findings around the village, which was lovely.

The next day we went back to the hotel in the morning and were served breakfast and waited on hand and foot by the manger.

We then went for a walk around the Monastery which is set beautifully in the hills and went for a small walk around the woods.

We wanted to go to Kazanlak before we left and because we had a limited amount of time left, the manager and his cousin (who was the owner), took us there. On the way thay took us to first to the tomb that was being worked on by archeologists in the village (Shipka) and gave us his own little tour and explanation of it. They then dropped us up the road to the town of Kazanlak and dropped us off at the museum which was only 1 leva to get in as students (about 40p!), which was really interesting because everything that he was telling us about we could see in the museum.

When we came back we went back to the apartment and chilled on the balcony till we had to get our bus in the evening.

We then paid up (20 leva each plus 3 leva for the great breakfast, about £9 each), and said our goodbyes.

Great service and really recommend them to everyone.

We stayed for two nights on a recommendation from a Bulgarian friend in the hotel apartment – it was simple, but well decorated with warmly coloured rugs and traditional wooden furniture – the hosts were very proud of the traditional Bulgarian style.

I was especially pleased with the recommendations that the hotel host gave us of the hikes we could do and the tour guide he organised for us during one of the days – my favourite was the day hike to the Sokolski Monastery. We also climbed up the hundreds of steps to the top of the mountain where we saw historical battle sites, walked past a beautiful church in Russian style on the way back (only a ten minute walk from the hotel) and visited the Thracian tomb-museum (which included a very dry and detailed explanation by a museum guide).

We pre-ordered breakfast and dinner and were pleasantly surprised to find good home food. In the evening our mountain guide (who also turned out to be a choir singer) opened up the accordion and gave us a repertoire of mostly Bulgarian traditional songs with a bit of Celentano now and again.

Loved the food, loved the character, loved the history, loved the songs in the evening and loved being surrounded by the mountains.

  • Liked — The atmosphere and the attention we got from the host
  • Disliked — The wasps in the room
