We came here on the recommendation of friends who'd just returned from the island. It was AMAZING. Our apartment was right next to the pool and the views were incredible. Lovely reading room and bar terrace.

We stayed at the Lopudski Apartments in late May 2013 looking for a restful and relaxing holiday in the half term Break - the holiday that we had met that criteria and more and we were very sad when the week ended.
We went self catering and had the Andros Apartment which was basic and very clean but with all the amenities we required - the staff at the Hotel were always very helpful and friendly which made the Holiday even more enjoyable, The Apartments are situated in lovely rustic gardens which have both Oranges and lemon trees and this with the beautiful view across the Island made it Idyllic and so very relaxing.

We found that even though Lopud was quiet there were enough cafes and bars for the evenings along with a nice beach on the otherside of the island for my young daughter.

All in all the stay in Lopud and the Lopudski Apartments was a real delight with a lovely island and nice friendly welcoming people that my wife and I both agree that it will be a place we again visit in the future.

We stayed on a bed & breakfast basis for 2 weeks in the "Miho" apartment which was not the one specified by our holiday company Simply Travel. As mentioned by another reviewer it appeared to be smaller than the others and was tucked away on the ground floor. However, we found it to be more than comfortable albeit the "kitchen cupboard" is literally that. The air conditioning was excellent and a tv is included with numerous channels albeit virtually all German.Having said the owners did offer us another apartment or room in the hotel the second week without us asking but by then not worth moving.

Our only real gripe was the fact we were not informed up front that our apartment would only be cleaned once with one linen and only two towel changes during the two weeks.

The swimming pool is quite small but more than adequate with very comfortable loungers (I think the best we have had in Europe). The pool can be used by customers from the Hotel Villa Vilna but there was always enough room.

The apartments are set up a hill behind the hotel with quite a number of steep steps which we had to drag up our luggage but beautiful view of Lopud bay.

The breakfast, taken at the hotel, was quite reasonable and the choice of fruit varied daily but the coffee was not the best. The views from the terrace are excellent. Unable to comment on other meals as we always ate out.

I need to mention that I had an accident the first night (a Sunday) when I tripped over by the apartment. I cut my head open and the hotel staff were extremely helpful and called out the doctor for me who arrived in quite a short space of time and managed to patch me up. I then visited him the next 5 days so he could check out the wound etc. In fact we saw him several times over the two weeks whilst in the resort and he always enquired as to how I was. I am more than thankful for his assistance and that of the hotel also, the Norwegain families who assisted directly after my accident.

Lopud is very small and quiet (no cars apart from a few electric golf style buggies for transport to Sunj beach!) and the island is green and pretty with crystal clear waters. There is one mini market which is well stocked considering its size, literally "mini" and was open most days but times varied. We could not understand why the monestary bells chimed the hours twice on every hour.

There are a handful of restaurants which bearing in mind it is an island specialize in fish. On the whole the food was rather bland and they can't make salads.

You must visit Dubrovnik which is about 50 mins by ferry (quite cheap 24 kuna single) but beware it gets very hot in mid-summer. Even hotter is Mostar, in Bosnia, but again worth a visit (totally different experience).

Room Tip: For an apartment go for "Marko"

We have just returned from a week in Lujo apartment at the Lopudski Residence. We regarded it as the best apartment that we have ever rented. The location and views were stunning. The staff were very helpful at all times. The Island is peaceful (no cars) and Sunji beach is certainly one of the best that we have encountered in the Adriatic. The local restaurants that we visited were excellent, with each trying to serve up distinctive dishes rather than serving formulaic food.We were also lucky to have excellent weather for early September. We only wish we were still there.

We would certainly recommend the Lopudski Apartments but think travellers should be aware of two issues.

First, reaching them involves a considerable climb - a sloping path with several flights of steps - from the street to the apartment, which certainly would be difficult for anyone with mobiity problems.

Secondly, the single shop on the island does not receive fresh bread until 11.00. (It has to come by ferry from Dubrovnik). We arrived at 13.45 on a Sunday afternoon when the shop was closed and we did not have a welcome basket waiting. It would have been helpful to have some bread, and other items waiting for us. To balance this, we did have fresh figs one day, and a spectacular basket of fruit with wine, coffee etc. later in the week. We just wished it could have been there when we arrived!

We stayed for a week self catered in the apartment called Marko. It had amazing 180 degree views across Lopud bay, towards the fortress and pine valley. We feel we were particularly lucky with this apartment as it enjoyed the most comprehensive views of the bay and we had the sun on the balcony from 8am - 8pm.

The studio apartment was spacious but fairly basic in terms of kitchen facilities (essentially a kitchenette cupboard!). However the bathroom was clean and more than functional. On our first day we received a welcome basket, which contained essentials such as coffee, sugar (and wine) but also a selection home grown fruit and veg from the hotel's vegetable garden.

The pool, which is shared by guests staying at the appartments and the hotel is small, but clean and very pleaent temperature after a bit of sun. The surrounding terrace is spacious and equipped with a about 10 good quality sun loungers. For the majority of our stay we were the only people in/around the pool area. However, they day before we left, a large Norwegian family, including 4 very boisterous children arrived, which rather spoiled the relaxing vibe!

The hotel staff, who are based at the Hotel Villa Vilina around 50 yards away, were warm and friendly and Judge the lazy hotel Labrador was often on hand to give us a warm welcome back after a day exploring the island.

As we self catered for the week we relied heavily on the selection of restaurants and cafes in the bay for our evening meal. All of a very high standard and very friendly. We event got to sample some complimentary local grappa courtesy of Restaurant (Konoba) Barbara, which we can highly recommend off the Road to Suni ( the sandy beach). If we were to book again we would definitely choose the B&B option at Hotel Lopudski Dvori as the local "mini market" redefined the word mini! It had all the essentials including fresh bread and cheese however opening hours are very much at the owner's convenience which lead to a few hungry mornings.

Lopud as a holiday destination could not have been more relaxing and provided a great escape from the pace of London life. Those looking for an action packed holiday would be sorely disappointed but for idyllic location for a relaxing break we really couldn't have done any better. The locals are very friendly and speak excellence English which only adds to the Island's charm and stress free pace of life.

Top five things to do include:

- A visit to Suni beach (a lovely sandy beach in a bay with a couple of eating places)
- A walk around the Belvedere peninsular (which provides views towards the town and our to sea)
- A swim in the crystal clear sea from one of the more secluded spots (take from jelly shoes to get in though!)
- Day trip to Dubrovnik (Ferries fairly regular and it only takes 50 mins)
- A beer or a cold glass of wine from one of the seafront cafes (where minutes easily turn into hours)

Room Tip: Request apartment Marko for stunning views

We found the staff here very helpful and the position is amazing with beautiful views over Lopud.

The pool area is great and most times we had no problem getting one of the very comfortable pool loungers.

Our only gripe was our apartment "Miho" looked to be the worst of the 7 apartments available. It was really quite dark with a very small sitting area - and when we glimpsed in a couple of the other apartments they seemed so much larger, airier and more modern. However, we didn't spend too much time in there as we were out and about exploring the beautiful island.

On a plus side the air conditioning was very good and also the shower was really quite powerful.

The staff and Judge the hotel dog were all very friendly
