“Great hotel, service/food room for improvement”
Reviewed 5 July 2011

The hotel was spotless. Great furnishings in rooms, great bedding. Spotlessly clean. "Funky & Fun". Tea and coffe making facilities in room. (Take your own suppliers as the tea may be 'herbal' and they don't provide coffee!!)
Pool/beach towels changed daily. Great toiletries in room. Could not fualt it!!

Food - disappointing. Service in restaurant. ~ Attentive to the wrong areas. Should be re-making tables for guests coming in for dinner after the 7 pm start. (Not everyone wants to eat as soon as the doors open (with the Russians). Great that they serve water with the meals offering us still or sparkling - would like to have had the option to order and pay for beer/wine. Near the end of the first week before we saw that this an option. Food not very warm and not very exciting.

Location of hotel was great - pool area with nice comfortable beach beds and no need to get up at dawn to reserve one was a bonus. The hotel beach was pebbly, but again no problem getting a bed. Or you can walk to the other side of the island to get to a lovely sandy cove (very popular with the boating fraternity). 1,000 m walk to beach 20 minutes at a brisk pace - but be warned it is uphill going!!! There were electric 'golf buggy' transfers available should the walk be too strenuous. Be warned part of this beach is frequented by nudists. Quite amusing to watch the expressions of the new-comers when they realised that there were completely nude people walking in and out of the sea alongside themselves!! No problem if one wanted to go 'native' and the other preferred no too. Beach beds and parasols available on the beach 25k for each bed and parasol. PLUS great lunch-time food and drink available.

Easy to get a local ferry to Dubrovnik (took 50 mins/ cost 23k) and from the port it was a quick 10 minute bus journey to the old city (bus no. 1 or 1A) You can get a ticket from the tobacco booth near the bus stop for 10k or buy one on the bus bus for 12k . Alternatively a walk of about 25 minutes took you to the entrance to the old city.

Only 1 shop on Lopud which wasn't for souvinirs so don't rely on buying any essentials when you arrive.

A great tranquil spot no cars on the island - only the water and the beach to keep kids entertained. Great sunsets and a great place to chill.

Room Tip: All rooms have sea view.

After a fifty minute boat trip we rounded the headland to obtain our first view of the port of Lopud Island and the Lafodia Hotel.
The sight was so impressive.
The hotel stands above the shore line and oozes class. We were not to be disappointed. Our room was big ,comfortable and so beautifully finished. The sea views from the balcony were perfect.
The staff were at all times polite, courteous, friendly and hel[pful.
The views from the restaurant were fantastic. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis but did try the restaurant one evening. A wide selection of food was available from the buffet. Anyone not finding something they enjoyed from this choice, would never be pleased.
The pool area of the hotel was luxurious and so relaxing. When we stayed it was not too busy. We had no real problem finding a sun lounger or settee. There was of course, the usual problem of people depositing a towel on a sun lounger early in the morning and then not re-appearing for hours. I dont fully understand why the hotel doesnt collect these towels up and free up those sun loungers, particularly as the pool towels were provided by the hotel and were identical. On one of the days the wind got up and took a lot of the towels away. So funny watching people return to find others on the sun loungers!!
Eating out in the restaurants around the port was a pleasure. The fish dishes a particular delight. Be careful if you order whole fish, cooked to your order, that can be expensive.
A must visit is the Elaphis pizza restaurant. Perhaps nothing unusual with the food. Definitely fresh, tasty and good value. The staff here were excellent. Polite and funny, really made the evening.
The walk to Sunj beach was not too far and well worth a visit. Apparently the best beach in the area. The view from the fort should not be missed. Leave the uphill walk until late in the afternoon when it is a little cooler. Our walk was completed with a beer at the Elaphis.
Overall, a fantastic week on a lovely Island in a quality hotel.

Room Tip: There doesnt seem to be a bad room at this hotel.

This was our first family holidays, we went there with our 14months old daughter ...the hotel was very clean and staff couldn’t be more helpful. Our room was very spacious and had a lovely balcony with a sea view ...many early evening spent by the balcony enjoying each other’s company with a bottle of red wine, while the little ones caught up with her ZZZZzzzzzzzzz .
The island is beautiful and full of history. We will definitely recommend this for a very chilled out holiday destination for couples looking to relax and escape from busy city life...not sure it would be suitable for young people as entertainment on the island is limited.
Regarding Lafodia, we would definitely recommend it to others. We would rate it 10 out of 10 apart of the food. Food would be rated at 6,5 as it could have done with more imagination and variety. however there was plenty available always....

Just came back from a 3 night stay in Lafodia Hotel on Lopud Island it was the highlight of our 2 week holiday around the Balkans. We had an exceptional time it had just been re-opened after 3 year renovation and everything was perfect. The staff were very friendly and helpful, they couldn't do enough for us. The food was buffet but very nice and varied every day. we would happily have had all of our meals there for a week. The pool area is a very nice comfortable area where you can lounge around and sunbathe for the day, there is also a pool bar serving drinks and sandwiches. I very much recommend this for anyone looking for a relaxing holiday. will definitely be returning hopefully next year!

After a bumpy boat ride from Dubrovnik we arrived at Hotel Lafodia rather hungry and were instantly disappointed in the spread put out in the buffet restaurant which had been specifically kept open for us. The food did not improve over the duration of our stay with the same horrors cropping up at every meal opportunity including garlic sprouts(!) which as you can imagine did not go down well with the hotel guests and so the remanants were recycled and disguised in soups and stews for days.
(However this was at the end of the season so may not necessarily apply to times when guests are flooding through every door, window, nook and cranny)

We were amazed at the room we were allocated. It was on the corner of the top floor with a balcony which went all the way round. Fantastic. Many hours were spent sat chilling with a jar of olives, a glass of wine and the view of the glittering sea below. Wow.

The hotel animation was very impressive. They had a range of activities on daily including water aerobics which took place in the sea (very amusing to watch), badminton and football tennis. On top of this the hotel also provides kayaks, canoes and pedalos free of charge because of this two members of our party were able to row around the whole island whilst the other member cycled up the hills on the hired bicylces (before he snapped the chain!)

Overall we enjoyed our stay at the hotel the only disappointment being the food and would like to take this opportunity to get in contact with Sid and Mary who were great company during our stay.

We loved this hotel and the island itself. The hotel was clean and beautiful and the food was simple, plentiful and tasty. We were staying all inclusive and had everything we could have needed. Some of the snacks were a little "unusual" but pleasant enough when you got used to them and the hot chocolates, although just from a machine, were yummy! I'm a vegetarian and I had plenty of choice. The pool is tiny that's true but lovely and clean and fresh. We didn't really need it as the hotel opens out onto a little boat harbour and you just have to walk a few metres from the front door and your can stand on the harbour wall and dive into the sea - the biggest pool in the world! The entertainments team were a little thin on the ground and had to work hard and were if anything a little over enthusiastic - to the point of appearing tearful if you did not want to go on an island walk with them! - very friendly though! I have already recommended this holiday to friends and would certainly like to go back. The island is AMAZINGLY beautiful!
