“Clean, luxurious, great facilities, a great stay!”
Reviewed 18 January 2013

We spent 5 days in Lafodia in September. All we wanted was a nice relaxing beach break between city trips and this hotel provided everything we needed - Honestly, once you get over the fact that the exterior looks like a bit ugly cruise ship, it is a lovely place to stay!

We had a standard deluxe room, was really lovely, balcony was gorgeous, room was comfy and clean. Breakfast was nice, great variety, the staff were always helpful and friendly.

The best thing about the hotel is the pools, jacuzzi and private beach. Also there's fun things to do like table tennis and archery, music in the evenings- all you need in one place.

I would recommend NOT spending too much money on their excursions - they are really expensive. instead, walk down the town and talk to people in the shops if you want to take a boat out. Somebody's uncle will bring you snorkelling for a third of the price!

For a real treat, arrive by private boat instead of waiting for the ferry. The travel department will arrange this.

We didn't have dinner included so if you want recommendations, go to La Villa and Peggy's for 2 really nice meals.

Thanks to the lovely staff for a nice stay!

We loved our stay at the Lafodia Hotel and intend to return.

Room - As you can see from the photos all of the rooms are gorgeous! They are really modern and are to the highest spec. We just had a regular room and even that was lovely. You really get value for money with regards to the rooms, they are stunning.

Restaurant - We found the staff very friendly and very accommodating. The owners/managers appeared a lot, however, I have to say that they were absolutely miserable and actually bring down the hotel! The food is hit and miss I have to say. It is as most say, very monotonous, but the package prices are so cheap, you can eat out a few nights to make up for how monotonous it is. What I LOVED was that there is sparkling wine for breakfast - what a great touch!

Pool - The pool area is really nice and is so welcoming you can spend hours up there!

Sea - There is a small beach which you can swim at. There are not a lot of loungers but we always seemed to get one. I would suggest taking something to sit on as there are no covers for the loungers so they are rock hard! You HAVE to go to Sunj Beach which is stunning and a great day out. We always went via golf cart....no ways I was doing that walk!

As I said above, the staff were lovely but sadly the management were miserable. They were the only staff that were grumpy and did not greet anybody. If you can ignore them, you will have a great time.

We loved our stay and will return for sure.

Room Tip: The rooms that face the pool are more expensive and yet you will hear the noise of the pool. I sugge...

We have been in this hotel in May 2012 and we still read after so many months that the food is still poor. How many more reviews are necessary so that the management decides to do anything about it ? Such a enormous pitty, but good for the restaurants nearby the hotel. They certainly will profit from these reviews, which is good.

Hotel and staff are great. Views amazing. The island is great. Peace and quiet!!!!

Food is very poor. Barely 2 star at some times. One dish was like tesco frozen veg put in hot water then served. I know everything has to be brought from the mainland, but I could do better! The places down the road do better.

My partner and I spent a week at the Lafodia Hotel in late September having booked through Voyage Prive with a great deal (33% off). We had a few reservations about going late in the season etc. but we were absolutely thrilled with the holiday!

The hotel's transfer was very smooth and comfortable, and even the wait for the boat in the little port was fine given the stunning scenery! The hotel itself is huge, a little bit of a monstrosity, but at least if you're staying there it's not spoiling your view of the island! There's also a path from Lafodia to a lookout point on the headland which was stunning at sunset. Everywhere was spotless, the staff were very professional and courteous, the pool was gorgeous, the beach was stunning and the services and trips on offer provided all you could really need. AND it was +30 everyday. It was a 4 star that felt like 5 star service and comfort.

The island itself is gorgeous too. Very sleepy, perfect if you're looking for a chilled out holiday. Some nice little bars and cafes if you fancy venturing out of the hotel. It's also a perfect place for visiting other islands and Dubrovnik. The ferry is regular and convenient. A trip to the old town must be done! Agree with all the recommendations to go over to Sunj beach, it has stunning views, a lovely sandy beach and the shallow waters are perfect. If you're there you also MUST try the grilled squid! I can't remember the name of the cafe but there are two on the beach, and if you're facing them with your back to the sea it was the one on the right. Best squid we'd ever eaten. Another MUST is dinner at Peggy's Terrace. The grilled fish was the best dinner we had on the island and with great views and a family run feel we couldn't wait to go back!

So the negatives, the big one really was the food, which was acceptable but definitely below par compared to the exceptional standards throughout the rest of the hotel. Menu choices ranged wildly between the unadventurous to the bizarre. Strange when Italian food is meant to be just simple and delicious. Most meals were OK, a couple made me feel ill (a risotto covered in a thick layer of oil). We were very grateful for the excellent salad and sides which we used to supplement our meals, and we weren't fussed about the rainbow of gateuxs for dessert. We were half board so ate there for the first four nights then ate out the rest of the week. It really is a shame as the restaurant is the one thing which really brings down the rest of the hotel.

The only other issue, which may have been because it was later in the season, is that the pool bar closed around 5/6pm. We'd made a mental note to go there to enjoy their delicious cocktails watching the sun go down before dinner but it was closing before even the last person was out of the pool! It seemed that they'd really missed a trick here as most people went into town instead. (We opted out of the bar inside which seemed catered more for the older guests of the hotel...).

Despite these points, we had an incredible week which went all too quickly and we would not hesitate to book another trip to Lafodia Hotel on the lovely island of Lopud.

Spent one week at the hotel in early October and, as most other reviewers have said, it was first class and very modern. Many have mentioned the food and, O k, on some nights the veg did get a bit repetative, and could have been a bit hotter, but the quality of the rest of the food far out weighed that small point. You also need to remember just about everything eaten has to be brought over on a boat!! The only gripe I have about the restaurant is that it did not uphold the dress code. It states in the Thomsons literature that men are to wear long trousers at dinner. We are not old fuddy duddys but when you eat in an establishment like this, where the head members of staff wear dinner suits even at breakfast, swim short with crocs don't seem right at dinner. One man wore track bottoms with socks and sandals the whole week - nice look!! - I might add both the examples were on English People - but they were by no means alone. I also think a bit of gym equipment indoors would be good, I know its a holiday but some people like to work off a few added calories. O K Gripe over. Lopud itself is a little treasure with nice walks around the island. Don't bother hiring a bike. You can walk the island in a few hours. Stunning views from the old fortress. In October the village is a bit quiet, but there were still lots of boat trips coming over from Cruise Ships in port at Dubrovnic. This means during the day is still has a buzz about it. Nice sandy beach on the other side of the island 15 Mins walk away. All in All We loved it.

Room Tip: Try and get a room on the 7th floor for the best views and even better 7th floor on the beach side t...
