“Very relaxing holiday”
Reviewed 14 August 2014

Lopud is quite busy in the peak months but compared to other resorts very laid back and quiet. Lafodia is well-managed and the facilities are designed so that all age groups are catered for but do not expect lively nightlife.....it is a place to relax!
We are early birds and got down to breakfast by 8 when it was virtually empty so plenty of choice and we sat outside overlooking the bay. The buffet is substantial and set us up for the day.
We were on a B and B basis for which we were grateful - we were able to explore all the restaurants which vary in price and provision. Our favourites were La Villa - halfway round the bay, set back all in the open air under a huge trellis of greenery. This does amazing steaks. If you prefer fish try Peggys - walk almost to the end of the bay and turn right past the cash machine, past the mini market and it is up the hill a little - amazing views from the terrace. You can watch them cook your fish (which you choose personally) to order on the outside grill. Probably our favourite though was Robinzoon - take the road to Sunj beach - first track on the right past the bakery and ask for the lamb special - I won't spoil it for you by explaining exactly what you get but there was so much lamb we couldn't finish it! Best to reserve at all of these places - they get busy.
Ice creams are amazing - cheapest (by a third) are those at the other end of the bay rather than at the Exquisite bakery.
Do go to Sunj beach - if you are reasonably fit it's about 30 minutes walk - or you can cheat and get a buggy! The little path going down to the beach - which the buggies cannot use - is charming. Through the woods so very cool and completely unspoilt. Go early - if you get there by 9 you will have it to yourself for almost an hour. Wonderful sandy sloping beach - great for children although lots of boats and kayaks find it so it gets busier as the day goes on.
A visit to Dubrovnik is a must. We did our own thing and got tickets for the ferry at the Post Office (schedules available at hotel reception). It takes about an hour. Get a bus 1a, 1b or 3 to the Old Town and do a tour of the city walls. It costs about £10 each but well worth it - the views are amazing. Take water - there are little cafe/drink stops round the walls but they are quite pricy.
Oh and don't do it when it's 35 degrees :o)
Beach is lovely at the Lafodia - again if you get there early you can have your pick of the beds. Stones are tiny and don't hurt the feet and there is sand after about 10 feet. It drops sharply though so not suitable for little ones unless closely supervised.
Private transfers to the island are not cheap but worth every penny - very glamorous to have your own speedboat - and it cuts the crossing time right down.
We loved Lafodia - and the island of Lopud. We hope to return!

we spent 10 nights at the Lafodia and absolutely loved it ! Room, view, breakfast, staff - all exceptional! The usual problem of sunbeds being reserved from 8am - I don't understand why staff don't just remove the towels - but everything else was perfect.

we chose to use the Lafodia's own transport service from the airport which ensured us a quick transfer by speedboat to the island.

Really hope i will return at some point.

Room Tip: High floor on the west wing (poolside) gives a truly magnificent view over the bay.

This big hotel (183 rooms) is at a lovely location on the Island and the first impression is that it's very clean, the rooms as well as public areas. The rooms are well and tastefully furnished, have good coffee and tea making facilities, well stocked mini bar and a small set up of toiletries. The hotel supports the environment by not changing towels and sheets everyday. Air-conditioning worked really well and there was lots of wardrobe space. Housekeeping was very prompt and besides small daily inconsistencies, the daily tidy-up was done well. Free wifi, but it worked for 10 minutes in the morning and every now and then in the evening.
Breakfast is only served until 10.00am, which means that if you arrive any time after 9.00am it will be mayhem! The breakfast buffet is really good, but there are only two coffee making machines, so prepare to queue for your cup!
Every day free sunbeds were found at both the pool and beach area which was nice, since the guests seem to come and go during the day.
The service overall was ok.
In the restaurant for example during dinner lots of waiters run around and you really need to get their attention. Only the head waiter can take your order, the rest of the staff are just there to bring and take plates to and from the table, which makes the dining experience feeling a bit rushed. Took a few dinners to understand how it works. No drinks - not even water is included in the dinner (half board) so be prepared to pay 5€ for a jug of tap water. The only lunch you can get at the hotel is at the Beach Bar.
Andrej in reception was again very professional, polite and funny.
The service at the travel agency was extremely flexible and did accommodate to all preferences. Ines at the Spa was professional, great to talk with and really lovely, highly recommend her massage treatments.
Lopud is a lovely little Island and you'll find a post office, cash machine, mini market (which isn't on any map you will be given) and a couple of restaurants and bars along the shore. Sunji beach is worth a visit.
Since you can't predict the weather and during our stay there were severe thunderstorms for two days with regular power cuts at the hotel, do bring a disposable raincoat and some cards (or other games), there is small bookshelf in the lobby area with recycled books in multiple languages, otherwise there is nothing much to do if the weather is bad.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the pool area.

Dear Lily,

thank you for your nice review. We are really glad you had good time with us and that you enjoyed our breakfast; for reducing the queue in front of the coffee machine we are providing some kettle filled with hot water and american coffee. During evening time all waiters are allowed to take order from guests, not only the restaurant manager in order to have a faster service. Water that we are serving in the Scarlet restaurant is filtered one, but anyway you can get the bottle of natural or still water if you prefer. During lunch time we are serving salads and snacks not only in La Bar beach bar but also in Eleven bar, where the main pool is located. i hope you will consider to visit us also next season, we will inaugurate our SPA that could be a wonderful alternative for eventual raining days.

Kind regards
Alessandra Severi

After 4 days in Dubrovnik it was great to come to the peace and quiet of Lopud. The hotel is excellently positioned at the edge of the bay and a really easy place to stay. Half board worked out brilliantly, it's expensive in The cafés/restaurants of Lopud and the food at Lafodia was good. The staff are friendly and helpful. We were put first in a terrible room first (facing outward away from the bay at the back of the hotel overlooking construction) and it was a bad start to our stay. After much complaint we were relocated to a roomoverlooking the pool which made all the difference in the world. The rooms and communal areas are really clean - hats off to the people who seem to be cleaning all day, it really shows. We used the spa service which was surprisingly good (given its a room with a glass front) the therapists were very pleasant. For a quiet place like Lopud the animation team do enough to keep you busy if you want to do something - aqua aerobics in the sea, kids club twice a day, evening activities (all included in the service). The gym isn't a gym though - it's an outside space on the 7th floor with a few machines, not what I expected. The rooms are also supposed to have adapters but the uk adaptor wasn't for uk plugs - the hotels also didn't have a stock of adapters to borrow either which was really annoying ( the local shops don't either). Don't forget your adaptor, scuba shoes (stony beach but lovely water), insect repellant and toiletries. Overall a great stay, lovely place, beautiful seas, nice people, easy walking trails.

Room Tip: Choose a room facing pool towards the front of the hotel. Avoid at all costs the rooms toward the ba...

We had a memorable family holiday here. The car free island has some fantastic walks and beaches. The weather wasnt great when we went and so the sea and pools were a little cold. If you opt for a private transfer it is the most stress free start to a holiday i have ever had - Speed boat to the front step of the hotel from a quiet harbour. There isnt a great deal to do on the island so i wouldnt go for too long- we split the holiday with 7 days here and 3 in Dubrovnik. The views from the hotel are breathtaking. Staff are friendly enough and food was OK.

My friend and I went back to the Lafodia in June this year, after having an absolutely wonderful time last year. Unfortunately we had only been there for 2 days this year when my friend was in the bathroom for a last night visit when the part of the shower screen beside her exploded and cut her hand quite badly. There was shattered glass all over the floor. I called down to reception to advise them, they sent up a cleaner with a hoover. There was quite a lot of blood although no major injury. I requested further assistance and they sent up a young man with a first aid kit, who no idea what to do with it. I called again and requested we were moved, eventually we were given the key to next door. Next day we went to the doctors, who was horrified - my friend is 80 the doctor said if she had been on medication - which fortunately she wasn't - it could have been serious, he cleaned and dressed her wounds and said the hotel should most definitely have called him out on the previous evening. We went back to the hotel and asked to see the manager, he said he would look into it and come back to us. On the Thursday we were due to go to the doctor again for a clean dressing, we bumped into the manager - he had not contacted us - he said he would come to the doctors with us, a little strange we thought. When we got to the doctors there was a complete turn around the doctor changed our story and almost accused us of lying and being drunk. The manager said there was no way the shower could have exploded on its own. But he very kindly told us we would not have to pay for a new panel!! In the meantime my friend was in a reasonable amount of discomfort and could no longer go swimming, the large part of the holiday. We were extremely upset. Lopud and the hotel is a lovely place to visit, particularly the beach over the other side where Bernie looks after you wonderfully and the restaurant there, with your feet in the sand and breathtaking views is stunning. Sadly though after this last experience we will not be going back.

Room Tip: Chose a room on about floor 4 east facing overlooking the pool
