After a bumpy boat ride from Dubrovnik we arrived at Hotel Lafodia rather hungry and were instantly disappointed in the spread put out in the buffet restaurant which had been specifically kept open for us. The food did not improve over the duration of our stay with the same horrors cropping up at every meal opportunity including garlic sprouts(!) which as you can imagine did not go down well with the hotel guests and so the remanants were recycled and disguised in soups and stews for days.
(However this was at the end of the season so may not necessarily apply to times when guests are flooding through every door, window, nook and cranny)

We were amazed at the room we were allocated. It was on the corner of the top floor with a balcony which went all the way round. Fantastic. Many hours were spent sat chilling with a jar of olives, a glass of wine and the view of the glittering sea below. Wow.

The hotel animation was very impressive. They had a range of activities on daily including water aerobics which took place in the sea (very amusing to watch), badminton and football tennis. On top of this the hotel also provides kayaks, canoes and pedalos free of charge because of this two members of our party were able to row around the whole island whilst the other member cycled up the hills on the hired bicylces (before he snapped the chain!)

Overall we enjoyed our stay at the hotel the only disappointment being the food and would like to take this opportunity to get in contact with Sid and Mary who were great company during our stay.

We loved this hotel and the island itself. The hotel was clean and beautiful and the food was simple, plentiful and tasty. We were staying all inclusive and had everything we could have needed. Some of the snacks were a little "unusual" but pleasant enough when you got used to them and the hot chocolates, although just from a machine, were yummy! I'm a vegetarian and I had plenty of choice. The pool is tiny that's true but lovely and clean and fresh. We didn't really need it as the hotel opens out onto a little boat harbour and you just have to walk a few metres from the front door and your can stand on the harbour wall and dive into the sea - the biggest pool in the world! The entertainments team were a little thin on the ground and had to work hard and were if anything a little over enthusiastic - to the point of appearing tearful if you did not want to go on an island walk with them! - very friendly though! I have already recommended this holiday to friends and would certainly like to go back. The island is AMAZINGLY beautiful!

We went to the amazing Island of Lopud in September, and had a wonderful holiday, no motorised vehicles on the Island, and plenty of walks, with awesome views, you can walk from one end of the island to the other, and across as well, there is only 1 large hotel which is the Hotel Lafodia, but we understand that the Hilton is doing up another hotel that was in ruins. There are a number of small B & B hotels, which we understood from a couple that we met who were staying in one that they are very good.

The only downside to our holiday, was the Lafodia Hotel, most of it was o.k. but the food was not good, if you like Pork and Frogs legs, some chicken and fish (although that sometimes wasnt good) you will be o.k. I must admit that I am quite a picky eater, and at times there wasnt anything that I could eat, and although we were fully inclusive, we ate out in the village quite a few times, and at a very reasonable price. Quite a few other people we got friendly with also complained about the food. If you spoke to the shopkeepers in the village or if they saw your band on your arm, they talked about the food, so it didnt have a good reputation. Also it is about a mile walk from the hotel to the harbour, (sometimes they will drop you at the jetty outside the hotel on your arrival and departure), or mostly in the main harbour, and they only put the luggage on the little golf vehicles you have to walk. If you go on trips or on the local ferries its from the main harbour, so allow time to walk there.

We also had a problem with a leak in the bathroom from the bathroom above, which we complained about, but nothing was done, there was also mould round the shower, which also nothing was done about.

I believe that the hotel was closing for refurbishment, and would then be a 5* well its to be hoped that they get a good chef in as heaven help them if not.

We had some lovely coffee's and ice-creams from the Italian Coffee shop in the village by the harbour, and spent many an hour just watching the world going by, the weather wasnt brilliant, but that didnt stop us having a good time.

Just be also aware that the trips are very expensive, and also very long days, and some of the guests said they were not value for money.

If you go to Lopud Island, get on the local ferries, and go to some of the other islands, its worth it. Also go to Dubrovnik, that is an amazing place and shows the courage of the Croation people. I would also add, a week is long enough on the island as there isnt much to do. We wish we had done a two centre holiday on reflection.

I have posted some photo's please ignore the dates, camera date wasnt set right.
We will certainly visit Croatia again, as it is so beautiful.

Beautiful island - really away from it all. About 40 mins on ferry from Dubrovnik. You can have a really quiet traffic free break - hotel building and rooms a bit dark and dated but clean and everything you need for relaxing time. All rooms have sea view - some spectacular. Beautiful beach on other side of this small island - about 20 mins varied levels walk or get the guys with golf car/tractor to give you a lift for small fee. Hotel pool tiny. Walk to end of island - 5 mins to see fantastic sunset with views of mainland and other dreamy islands - magical place like being on the edge of the world. Real mix of nationalities at hotel no lager louts - older crowd when we went - no real entertainment but great anyway. Nice harbour area with a few restaurants and bars. Another adventure walk about 1 hour up to ruined castle with fantastic views towards Dubrovnik. Was AI when we went but I think half board now - food was plentiful and quite varied over a week - may get boring over two weeks. If you want to go on trips you have to get to Dub first on a boat - so adds on to journey. Chill out island.

A fabulous holiday. Hotel Lafodia - great location, good sized room, good food and spotlessly clean. All rooms balcony and sea view. Staff friendly.

Stunning views. Island great to explore - on foot as no cars!
Views from the old fort spectacular can even see Dubrovnik.

Can recommend 2 trips organised by hotel. One to the 2 neighbouring islands of Kolocep (2 hrs free time) and Sipan(1.5 hrs free time) only cost 80kuna about £11. The other to Dubrovnik about £12 - great as boat left at reasonable time 8a.m. from outside hotel and took you straight to old harbour for the old town so no buses needed as you would if you went independently and used ferry. Arrived 9a.m. and had 3 hours free time.Walking the walls a must - memorable views

We plan to come back so relaxing - heaven! So many memories.

First time ever we saw anyone catch an octopus with a line and 2 brightly coloured plastic crabs!

Beautiful island, the weather is perfect. Sea so clear, locals very friendly. The hotel was spotless and the food was varied and plentiful. I would recommend this holiday to anyone, The trips are interesting and the boat ride back at night so romantic. With so few people living on the island and it being September, the atmosphere was really family like. There are many lovely walks on the island and entertainment in the hotel most evenings. Although weather was hot, the rooms were wonderfully cool best nights sleep I've had in years.

Oh what a beautiful island! We had a wonderful week walking all over in glorious weather. Visited Dubrovnik on a Sunday because the ferry leaves at a more sensible time.
The hotel was as expected-very mediocre. Our room probably had one of the worst views- Sea View?? More like bank view!! The food was very repetitive and extremely lacking in fresh ingredients. The wine from the dispenser-oh dear! The white was JUST drinkable but the red was awful. We had some lovely meals away from the hotel which proved that it could have been much better. The dining room was always very quiet so probably lots of other people were eating "off-site".
We ordered a bottle of wine from the wine list one night and although it was a whole lot better than the all-inclusive stuff, it was a bit too much trouble to provide it. It provided a bit of entertainment though.
So to sum up. The island YES. The hotel NO NO NO!! Unless of course you are addicted to tinned and tasteless food.
