We stayed here for four nights in August 2004 and found the hotel to be what we expected for a budget hotel. The room was large and clean but the bathroom smelled strongly of cigarette smoke even though it was a non-smoking room. When we reported this to the front desk and requested a different room they were very helpful and immediately upgraded us to an ocean view room free of charge. The hotel was well situated with many shops within easy walking distance.

We had used the Entertainment Card to book a room at this hotel for 4 nights. Upon check-in we were asked if we wanted a partial ocean view room for an extra $10. I decided to take the original room to see what it was like first. Although it was spacious and clean, I could hear the noise from the traffic and the kids in the pool immediately when I stepped in, so we chose to upgrade so that we could get a room which faced away from the pool and main road. This was on the 3rd floor and a room with an even number. The receptionist however was quite rude and made it seem like it was a hassle for us to change even when we were giving them more money by choosing a more expensive room (only excuse mind you was that they don’t have a computer and type out the receipt on a typewriter!!). Wasn’t she the one suggesting the upgrade to begin with? Seems that the people at the front desk wasn’t too keen on giving the hotel guest that aloha spirit as we walked by many nights with them just giving us a blank stare… However, there was one receptionist present that didn’t seem as rude and will always welcome you back to the hotel. The rooms are older but seeing that we didn’t spend much time indoors it didn’t really matter. The shower does have nice water pressure, perfect to wash out the sand from the beach you’ll be going to. Parking, however, is a NIGHTMARE! Guests are not allocated parking spots so its basically first come first served and there aren’t enough spaces for the amount of people who stay in the hotel. Kind of made me feel like I’m in NYC where you have to wait take your chances and wait by the road till someone leaves so you can park in their place. For those people that are parked there, most can’t seem to manage to park within the lines either! There were many occasions where we couldn’t park in an empty space (not that there were many) because we wouldn’t have any room to even open the doors once we’re parked in the space (I guess Lamborghini drivers might be able to open their scissor doors and squeeze out). There is alternative parking about 1 street away from the hotel so chances of finding something there much better, though it is a short walk back to the hotel. Most people would have preferred to be able to park in the main parking lot. The hotel is centrally located between two major roads (hence the noise of the traffic at night and the amount of hoons with big engine cars revving about - if you chose to stay get an even numbered room facing away from the main road). It is easy to walk to Ali'i Drive and there are many malls within less than a 5 min drive or a decent stroll (including Wal-Mart which is good for buying reef shoes and film processing).

This is definitely a "you get what you pay for" deal. It's an okay place if you plan on being out and about for 90% of the time and you just sleep there. The location is okay, it's right near some quaint shops and close to the beach. The gnats at night were a problem, and the carpet was old and musty. So, it depends on your comfort level. If you're looking for a luxurious stay, look somewhere else. But if you're looking for a no frills place, this is for you.
