My husband and I snuck away here for a couple of days to celebrate our anniversary and we had an amazing time! The staff (front desk to bar) are really nice. They upgraded us for our anniversary which was a great surprise! From the lanai we got to take in the wonder of passing by whales, spinner dolphins, turtles, and we had a great view of their private salt water tide pool. Also, I loved falling asleep to the sound of the waves.

You can see this in many other reviews, there are parts of the hotel that are showing age. Our room was a little light on furniture, there is no room service, and the all you can eat breakfast was lacking. None of those things mattered that much to us because the bar was fantastic (their pork tacos are unbelievable... and the drinks) and the views upstairs and downstairs are gorgeous. Furthermore, there are so many restaurants and convenience stores nearby, so you have lots of eating options.

Aloha TA family, glad to hear they came to celebrate their anniversary with us. They too were able to take advantage of our great staff and customer service, the outstanding views from the rooms and resort, as well as the great location we own here in Kona. Alii Drive is steps away to dining, shopping, farmers market, galleries and historical sites, and the pier is only a short walk away for water activities. Glad they shared, congrats on another happy year together!

I'm really not sure what all the fuss about the decor was in several earlier reviews. This resort is beautiful and romantic and right in the middle of downtown Kona. Our room was spotlessly clean, we had champagne to welcome us, and the bar and restaurant were fabulous.

Douglas, our server, was wonderful! He has some beautiful underwater video and photographs which he shared with us from the first night, and this made it feel like we were friends rather than patrons, which I think is fabulous! He made the attempt to get to know us and our preferences from the very first night and was always present when we needed him.

The resort is very clean, you can get large beach towels at the desk for the pool or lagoon, and the room was well maintained. The decor is timeless and classic. No, it isn't stainless steel and ultra modern, so if that's what you want go somewhere else. If you are looking for a genuine Hawaiian feeling, with stone and warm woods, fish ponds, beautiful landscaping and open air dining, this is the place for you! Everyone at the resort was pleasant, helpful and seemed happy to work there, and that says a lot to me. My only complaint is that on one occasion during our 2 weeks at the resort, we decided to go to the lagoon, picked up towels at the front desk, and mentioned going to the lagoon to them. So when we got over to the lagoon, it was closed for a private wedding. We went back and only one of the desk clerks even knew about the wedding, and not the guy we got our towels from. A sign could be placed near the desk during the set-up of the event, to warn other guests that the area is closed.
As that is my only complaint during a 2 week stay, and it is really a minor thing, I give this resort the highest marks. If you go, try the sashimi! Fresh caught, yum!

Aloha TA family, wow, these guests "get it" so glad they shared, there's really not much more to say! As for the Lagoon weddings, I'm truly sorry some of the staff weren't aware of the functions going on, shame on us for not covering in our pre-shift meetings. We will take action on this suggestion immediately, so future guests are not inconvenienced. I'm really glad they had a wonderful time, and shared their review, I hope others will read and take heed! We;ll welcome them back with open arms when the return. Mahalo!

This hotel had so many bad reviews that we almost missed out on a great experience. After 4 trips to Hawaii over the past 2 decades this island this experience this location has proven to be the best by far! Its true the hotel is one of the older ones in town. However the main areas are well maintained. I would suggest requesting a room in the Alii Tower which has been most recently renovated. The views are amazing to say the least. The sound of the waves crashing against the rocks is so relaxing. We stayed here for 4 nights and at the Hilton for another 4 nights. Of course you cannot compare the two... but if you're looking to get out and see Kailua-Kona town the Royal Kona is the best place to stay. Everything is so close In proximity to the hotel, you really dont even need a car. All in all this is a great hotel and will be even better when they are finish renovating the entire resort.

Aloha TA family, what a positive review! These guests nailed it hands down, you cannot compare us to the 4 stars on the Kohala Coast, not will you pay the same prices at our resort. We offer a great location for the best value in town. Our goal is to provide clean well maintained rooms, great customer service, and a awesome welcoming experience to all of our guests. So glad they shared, we'll look forward to seeing them again!

This is a good hotel in a great location with awesome views and even a private lagoon! Yes, the décor may be a little shabby chic but the service and the ambience are great. We made use of the reasonable parking ($10 a day) and the activities counter and booked into the "Legends and Legacies" luau. One small negative was the fact that, although we pre-booked, the queue for this line was longer than the walk-in line and moved a lot slower and this meant that we were waiting for longer to get in. Buffet was nice (although the cold desserts should have been put at the end of the buffet line and not scattered among the savoury items!) and the pig was yummy! All in all, a very enjoyable stay.

Aloha TA family, glad more friends from AU had a pleasant stay with us. While we're not the newest resort on the block, we are clean, well maintained and have the charm of a truly Hawaiian Style, open relaxed feel about us. Definitely the best value for the best location in Kona Hands down. As for the luau desserts, I'll have to check, as we normally have coconut and pineapple upside down cake on a separate table not intermixed, I'll check. So glad they enjoyed, we appreciate them staying and sharing. Mahalo!

We stayed at the Royal Kona for 10 days in March for a wedding. What a beautiful location! The hotel is a little tired but has a distictly Hawaiin feel but the service at the hotel is warm and welcoming, the bar is in a great spot and when the waves crash against the wall and the sun is setting it is quite the spectacle. Our room was a good size and the balcony had pool and ocean views. The balconies are not very private but it was a good chance to meet the neighbours! Everything you need in Kona is right on your doorstep from this hotel, there are bars, restaurants and shops a stones throw away. The expedia concierge was great and organised a fantastic helicopter tour for us. We had a great time and would definitely return to the Royal Kona.
We lost our memory card on the trip and upon our return we called the Royal Kona who had found it, they forwarded it to our home address (in Australia) at no cost. It means so much that some hotels still operate with customer service in mind.
Thanks Royal Kona, we will see you again.

Room Tip: The full ocean view rooms are worth the extra. It can be a bit loud in the evenings if there is a we...

G'day! Aloha to our friends from Perth! So nice to know their experience with us was so positive. Glad they loved the facility, the bar, rooms, views and of course our location. We strive to provide great service to all out guests, and sending their item is just one little act of kindness that happens every day here. Great staff, great food and beverage, and very affordable! We'll welcome them back again when they return. Mahalo!

When booking a Hotel on the Big Island we weren't sure whether to stay in Kailua or the more modern, but isolated and purpose built area of Waikoloa. In the end we chose the more natural surroundings of Kailua and the Royal Kona Resort.

Overall the resort is looking a bit tired and could do with a coat of paint and some general renovation but it is still and outstanding hotel with probably the best location in the area. We had a corner king ocean front room and this was awesome, with so much room and a wrap around Lanai. We were on the 7th floor in what I would say was the best room in the Hotel with regard to views

Internet is a bit expensive and has to be paid per item connected rather than per room and the signal is weak and the breakfast is adequate but these are more than counter balanced by the location. 25 minutes from the Airport, 10 minutes walk into town for a good choice of Restaurants.

We would definitely stay here again if in the Area. Oh and don't miss the Luau! It is excellent and very good value for money.

Room Tip: Ocean Front Corner Kings are great and the views from the 7th floor awesome.

Aloha TA family, nice to see our friends from the UK had a great stay with us. It's a long trip but sounds like they really enjoyed Hawaii island. They offer some great tips to keep in mind, very helpful! In regards to our wifi, yes, in room is only $9.95 per day/per device, or $35.00 per week for the convenience in room. We do have a hot spot at Don's Mai Tai Bar for those just wanting to check email, Instagram or Facebook! Glad they enjoyed the awesome views and location, we'll welcome them back when they return. Mahalo!

Had the top floor of an ocean view room with balcony. Room was excellent and service was very good. This location is right off the main drag so walking to almost everything is easy. Pool, and bar on the ocean front was very relaxing. If you'd rather swim in ocean water, the lagoon was just steps away. Restaurants, shops and attractions all within a short walk. The Luau was right here on the property.

Just so you know, the Big Island coastline is rocky and rugged, so beaches are few and far between. If you're looking for miles of sand beaches, you won't find it on this island, although small beaches can be found.if desired.

There's lots to do here with many excursions available. We'd definately stay here again when we return to the Big Island.

Room Tip: Ask for a water front room.

Aloha TA family, so glad these guest found our resort to be such a great value, loving the location and all the amazing things our resort has to offer. We have some of the best views on the island, for the best prices too. True, we're not the newest kid on the block, but clean and well maintained with great staff and service. As for beaches on island, huge stretches of white sand at Kua Bay, Hapuna beach and Mauna Kea to name a few, only a short 20-40 minute from the hotel. Get a car, explore and have fun in Kona! mahalo!
